Abstract

Since the modern times, man freed from the the absolute power of the God gradually have become aware of his own self, and as a master of nature who owns himself the creative ability, he has achieved remarkable development of science resulting the radical growth of the industrial society. This materially prosperous society that has been developed with increasing speed, however, ultimately led to a crisis where man has become the slave chained to and restricted by the facilities of civilization which he himself created. So, it seems that the man who has lost the reason for existence is just a hollow image of despair wandering about in the void shut off from the past and future, clinging only to the present without knowing what is the meaning or lure nature of his life. Man has become to exist not as a subjective self, but as a reproducted being deprived of his originality and individuality. Accordingly in this study, this researcher tried to accomplish the spiritual function of illustration which, in the face of nihilism, can give a great help to the spiritual awakening of man and also can shake him up to awake and discover love for his life as well as make it possible for him to express the aching void in his heart. In these regards, I first tried to consider the negative reality of modern society characterized by the absence of humanity focusing on the existential problems and phenomenon of reproducted man as well as psychology of the ruler who dominates and controls reproducted man. I also tried to study human nature. By doing that what I intended is to find solutions for overcoming the negative reality of present, and to illuminate the possibility of positive man regaining love for the life. This theme was expressed by objectifying all the external things intuitively and by revealing human nature symbolically through these objects. I also tried to develop these into a effective media through the gradual process of working. In conclusion, in this thesis I tried to reveal the negative aspects of images derived from the spiritually sterile space to the paralysed heart of modern man, and also achieve the role of visual message by inspiring man to review himself through the visual thinking.;근대이후 인간은 신의 권력으로부터 해방되어 자기존재를 자각하고 그 스스로 창조의 능력을 가진 자연의 주체자로서 군림하여 눈부신 과학의 발전을 이루고 산업사회에로 급성장하였다. 인간의 욕구와 창의가 만들어낸 이 윤택한 문명은 그 속도를 점차 가속화하여 급기야 현대에 와서는 인간 스스로 그가 만든 이러한 문명의 이기(利器)에 구속되고 노예가 되는 위기에까지 치닫게 되었다. 그러므로 그의 존재가치는 어느덧 상실되어 버리고 과거와 미래의 차단된 공간 속에서 현재에만 집착하여 무엇이 참된 본질인지 잃은 채 마치 공허 속을 방황하는 절망의 군상처럼 되어 버렸다. 그는 거대한 구조를 지배하는 힘에 의해 그 독특함과 개별성이 박탈당하여 이전의 주체적 자아가 아닌 복제(複製)된 인간의 형상으로 남게 된 것이다. 본 연구자는 이러한 현대의 니힐리즘 앞에 그가 한 인간으로서 유익하게 살아갈 수 있는 정신적 자각을 꾀하고, 삶에 대한 사랑을 인식시켜주기 위하여 텅 빈 마음을 표현해 주는 illustration으로써 그 정신적 역할을 다하고자 하였다. 그것은 우선 현대산업사회에 있어 실존의 문제와 인간의 복제현상, 그 복제 된 인간을 지배하는 지배자의 심리를 통해 현대문명이 가지는 인간성 부재(不在)의 부정적 현실을 살펴보는 것에서 출발하여, 현실의 극복을 위해 인간본질을 고찰해 봄으로써 삶에 대한 사랑을 가진 긍정적 인간의 가능성을 조명해 보았다. 이러한 주제의 표현은, 현존하는 모든 것을 직관으로 object화하고 그 object를 통하여 인간의 본질을 상징하여 여러 단계의 작품과정을 거치는 동안 효과적인 미디어로 만들어지도록 했다. 이 연구를 바탕으로 현대라는 메마른 정신적 공간에서 소산된 여러가지 형상들의 부정적 측면을 현대인의 닫혀진 마음 앞에 제시해봄으로써 시각적 사고를 통하여 자신을 되돌아보게 하는 시각메시지의 역할을 다하고자 한 것이다.
