함석헌의 고난 경험과 죄인식

Abstract

본 논문은 1970년대 한국민중신학의 형성에 있어서 한 배경을 이룬 인물인 함석헌의 생애에 관한 연구이다. 함석헌의 생애 연구에 있어 본 논문에서는 사회전기적인 방법론을 택하여 그가 살았던 시대적 상황과 그 상황에 대응하는 삶의 양태가 변화하고 있음에 주목하여, 변화의 원인을 사상적 측면에서 살펴보고, 변화의 동력을 그의 영성을 통해 고찰하였다. 사상적 측면에서는 그의 '현실의 고난에 대한 인식'과 '죄에 대한 인식'이 삶의 변화를 가져온다고 보고, 이 두가지를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 필자는 이러한 변화과정을 세 시기로 구분하였다. 첫번째 시기(1901 - 1938)에 그는 식민지 배경하에서 조선 민족이 당하는 고난에 대해 인식하였으나, 인간이 원죄에 매어 있다고 생각하였으므로 고난 극복을 위한 그의 저항이 행동으로 표출되지 않았다. 두번째 시기(1939-1900)에 그는 일제 파쇼통치가 강화되는 상황에서 민중의 고난에 대해 인식하고, 기독교의 대속교리에서 벗어나 인간의 자주성에 대해 인식하였으며, 이후 실천의 사상적 기반을 형성하였다. 세번째 시기(1961-1989)에 그는 군사독재정권하에서 체험을 통해 인간의 죄성에 대해 깊이 인식하였으며, 자신의 죄와 사회악을 관련시킴으로피 민중의 고난에 동참하였다. 함석헌의 생애에 있어 그의 종교적 영성은 삶의 과정에서 만나는 고난속에서 더욱 심화되어 그의 사상과 삶을 변화시키는 동력으로 작용하였다. 이러한 과정을 통해 필자는 함석헌의 생애와 관련된 그의 중심사상에는 인간의 자주성과 인간의 죄성이 공존하고 있음을 알 수 있었다.;The subject of this study is the life of Ham Suk Hun who had formed background of Korean Minjung Theology in the 1970's. Through this study, it is noticed that his life style was changing according to that historical situation. So this study tried to discover the cause of that change in the aspect of his thought, and the motive of that change in his spirituality. In the aspect of his thought, his perception of the realistic suffering and the problem of sin had changed his life style. The process of this change has three periods. In the first period (1901-1938), he was concieved of the Korean people's suffering and the Japanese colonialism. But he thought that human beings had been would to the original sin. So he had not tried to overcome that suffering trough his social activities. In the second period(1939-1960), he was concieved of the suffering of Minjung under the rule of Japanese Imperialism. So he turned completely from the doctrine of salvation of Jesus Christ and was concieved of the independence of human beings. Such a change formed the basis of his active thought. In the third period(1961-1989), he was deeply concieved of the sin of the humanbeings through his own experience of the 1960's military government. And he also participated in the suffering of Minjung by relating his own sin with the social sin. Throughout his life, his religious spirituality was deepend in the process of the suffering with which he had encounterd in his life. And it was his spirituality that was the energy of his changed life. Through this study, I can know that there exist the independence and the sin of human beings together in the central idea of Ham Suk Hun related by his own life. And it was the idea that had formed the base for the life of resistance since the 1960's and also formed the background of the Minjung Theology.
