Abstract

As modern arts have been diffused and diversified in terms of their concepts and plastic characteristics, artists have became toget unique views of plastic art, to seek for new material and to search for various forms of expression by developing new technique. Therefore, new technique of expression and the appearance of new forms reflect the social aspect of that time in the creative plastic activity. Specialty, the characteristic of modern arts is the development frommere description of objects to the combination of objects and inner world. This characteristic is applied to batik design which seeks for plastic world. The purpose of this thesis lies in the recognition of plastic characteristic which appears in the reconstructive process of Dancheong, and in finding the possiblity of batik expression according to the researcher's plastic purpose. For the theoretical backgrounds, the researcher has studied concept, form and plastic characteristic as well as theme and construction, material and expressive technique for the means of creating the work of Dancheong. Ten actual works have been taken into the analysis for study, and its result is following. First, every nation or every peoples has unique traditional shape for expression of each own life style and beauty. Second, Dancheong as a theme for the plastic activity is a very appropriate subject that researcher can reconstruct according to his/her own will. Third, the activity of modifying Dancheong has been a very appropriate study for the establishment of unique plastic world at researcher's view. Because the researcher agrees with Kandinski's opinion that only arts can be expressed by his/her own means. Fourth, as understanding the characteristic of material through the productive process, the researcher has found the possibility of unique expression in batik design. With these results, to fill up the defective aspects found in the productive process and to make effective expression for theme, I will seek for further subject, having continuous study for the characteristic of material.;현대예술은 그 개념이나 조형성이 확산 다변화되면서 작가들은 저마다의 조형관을 지니고 새로운 재료를 탐색하고 그것을 이용한 기법의 개발을 모색함으로써 다양한 표현양식을 추구하고 있다. 따라서 창조적 조형활동에 있어서 새로운 표현기법과 양식의 출현은 그 시대와 사회상을 반영해 주는 것이다. 특히 현대미술의 흐름은 대상을 그대로 모사하는 재현에서 대상과 내면세계를 의식적으로 결합하는 표현으로 발전되어 가고 있다. 이러한 의식은 조형세계를 추구해 가고 있는 염색공예에 있어서도 마찬가지이다. 이에 본 연구자는 전통적인 소재-단청-의 이미지를 율동적으로 재구성하는 과정에서 문양의 화려한 원색조가 빚어내는 단청의 조형성을 새롭게 인식하고 그것을 바탕으로 연구자의 조형의지에 따라 염색에 의한 표현의 가능성을 모색하는데 연구의 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 단청의 개념, 단청의 형(形)과 색(色)의 조형성 그리고 작품제작을 위한 형성의 원리와 재료 및 기법에 대해 고찰한 이론적 배경을 토대로 10점의 작품을 제작 분석하여 얻은 결론을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 어느 나라 어느 민족이나 그들 고유의 시대적 생활양식, 미의식(美意識)의 표현으로 전통적인 문양이 형성되어 왔음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 단청문양의 형과 색은 연구자의 시각으로 재구성하는데 있어 적절한 소재가 되었다. 세째, 연구자의 주관에 따라 단청을 변형하는 작업은 개성적 조형세계를 정립하는 적절한 연구였다. 왜냐하면 예술만이 적절한 자기 고유의 수단을 통해서 분명하게 표현할 수 있는 실체(내용)라고 한 칸딘스키의 말에 공감했기 때문이다. 네째, 제작과정을 통해 염료와 섬유등의 재료의 특성을 파악함으로써 독특한 염색공예가 갖는 표현가능성을 발견하였다. 이러한 결론과 더불어 제작과정에서 발견된 미비한 점을 보완하고 주제에 적합한 효과적인 표현을 하기 위해서 재료의 특성에 대한 계속적인 연구로 앞으로의 작업방향을 모색해 보고자 한다.
