Abstract

Hei Shim(慧諶, 1178-1234 AD), a Zen priest in the latter part of Goryo Dynasty, has an important position not only in the history of philosophy but also in the literary history. In philosophy, he succeeded Chi Nul(知訥, 1158-1210 AD) who is a pioneer Zen priest in Korea and widely prevailed Zen. In the literature, he set up the systemetic Zen poetry for the first time and had an great influence of the latter Zen poetry. This thesis aimes to study Hei Shim and his works. In the second chapter, this thesis dealt with his life to help understand his thought and his poetry. He who had been a newly-risen scholar-administrator(新興士大夫) became a Zen priest and widely spreaded Zen ideas. As a literary man, he edited anthology of Zen Poetry Sun Mun Yom Song(禪門拈頌集), and he was deeply concerned with the literature at that time. In the third chapter, this thesis tried to trace the background and the content of Hei Shim's ideas. At first, Chi Nul's ideas that backgrounded up Hei Shim's ideas are discussed and then Hei Shim's ideas. Hei Shim's ideas are based upon the practical view and he wanted to practice Zen ideas in the daily Life. His ideas are handed down to posterity and become the main flows of Korean Zen. In the fourth chapter, the world of poetry in Hei Shim is studied. His poetry can be roughly divided into two kinds : poetry in which he expressed Zen and poetry of life. In the former, there is poetry about Zen theory, which shows the unique expression, poetry about awakening of Zen, which shows the liberal mind without limitation, and nature poetry where he expressed his union with nature. In the latter, he as a man rather than as a Zen priest expressed the tendency of skepticism and the concerns of life. Through his world of poetry, we can find he produced the philosophic poetry to reflect Zen, and diversity and depth in his poetry reveals his aspect as a poet. In the fifth chapter, this thesis tried to say his place in the Korean literary history. tie is the fore-runner of Zen poetry and he advocated a new tendency of literature with the newly-risen scholar-administrator at the turning point in the literature history when Musin (武臣) had reigned. Hei Shim as an intellectual who lived at the turning point in history has the aspect of a fore-runner not only in the history of philosophy but also in the literature history.;眞覺國締 慧諶(1178~1234)은 고려후기의 禪僧으로서 사상과 문학의 양면에서 중요한 의미를 지닌 인물이다. 그는 사상사적으로는 한국禪宗의 開創主인 普照國師 知訥(1158~1210)을 계승하여 禪風을 널리 펼쳤으며, 문학사적으로는 한국에서 처음으로 체계적인 禪詩文學을 일으킴으로써 한국 禪詩의 전통적 흐름을 이루어 놓았다. 따라서 慧諶 연구는 한국禪詩의 발생과 흐름을 고찰하는 데 있어 중요한 단서가 될 것으로 기대하여, 本考는 慧諶에 대한 전반적 고찰을 목적으로 하였다. 慧諶의 사상과 문학의 배경을 파악하기 위해 Ⅱ章에서는 생애와 저술을 고찰하였다. 그는 시대적 전환기인 武臣집권기의 신흥사대부출신으로서 문학적 소양을 갖춘 승려이며, 禪詩集 「禪門拈頌」의 편찬과 文人과의 교유등으로 當代의 문학에 깊이 관여하였다. Ⅲ章에서는 慧諶의 사상에 관해 고찰하였는데, 그의 사상형성에 지대한 영향을 미친 普照國師 知訥의 사상에 대해 살펴본 후, 그의 사상의 주요내용들을 살펴보았다. 그의 사상은 현실적 진리관에 입각하여 있으며, 禪을 일상생활 속으로 확대시켰다. 이러한 그의 사상은 오늘날 한국禪의 중요한 흐름으로 내려오고 있다. Ⅳ章에서는 慧諶의 다양한 詩들을 대상으로 고찰한 바, 그는 詩人으로서의 폭넓은 詩世界를 이루고 있음이 나타났다. 그의 詩를 大別하면, 禪恩想의 表出과 情과 현실관심의 詩로 볼 수 있다. 禪思想표출의 詩는 禪的 思惟가 詩의 중요한 요소로서 작용하고 있는 경우인데, 여기에는 禪理詩, 禪悟詩, 自然詩와 기타의 詩가 있다. 禪理詩에는 禪의 성격이 표출되어 禪詩로서의 개성이 잘 드러나있다. 禪悟詩는 禪的 깨달음의 정신적 경지를 표현한 詩로서, 특히 ＜漁父詞＞는 훌륭한 문학적 형상화를 이루고 있다. 自然詩는 자연을 대상으로 읊으면서 禪的 인식이 투영되어 있는데, 자연을 法身으로 수용하며 자연과의 合一을 이룸으로써 자연을 深化시켰다. 慧諶의 詩人的 면모는 일반시인과 다름없는 詩들을 통해서도 알 수 있는데, 이러한 詩는 정서, 인정, 或은 현실관심의 내용 등을 담고 있다. 그의 詩들을 고찰한바, 그의 詩에는 사상이 대부분 반영되어 있으며 특히 禪的 인식은 중요한 문학적 요소로 작용하고 있음을 알 수 있다. Ⅴ章에서는 慧諶의 문학사적 위치를 논하였다. 그는 禪詩를 일으킴으로써 한국詩의 한 흐름의 원류가 되었으며, 당시 무신집권기의 문학적 전환기에서 신흥사대부와 함께 새로운 문학을 주장하며 상호문학적 교유를 이룸으로써 문학의 영역을 확장하는데 기여하였다. 이상의 고찰 결과, 慧諶은 武臣집권기의 지식인으로서 禪恩想의확립에 기여하였으며, 동시에 이를 문학으로 형상화시킴으로써 한국문학사에 있어 중요한 의미를 갖는 인물임을 알 수 있다.
