Abstract

This thesis deals with the "Sa Ssi - Nam Jung Ki the novel of Kim Man Jung( 金萬重 ) through the analysis of characters in it. This novel has been considered in connection with Queen, In Haen's deposal. In fact, the characters in his novel have been studied in relation with people who lived it the times of its write-up. The result of this way of study was the literature should be concerned with the thing that is not literary and the meaning of this novel was limited. Then, this thesis deals with the novel itself and proceeds to study in this order. In chapter Ⅰ, it provides the purpose of this study. And it examines the history of study and points out the problems. In chapter Ⅱ, it divides into some units help for understanding and analysis of this novel. And then it points out that the novel was composed of two principles. In chapter Ⅲ, it analyzes the characters in this novel through the appearances, human relationships, and their reacts on the events and things. And then, it draws out the traits of characters and classifies them into the types. And then, it points out how characters are created. The writer created characters in relation with historical and social conditions at that time. By this, we can see these things. First of all, we can catch the conflict between ethical value and material value through the conflicts among characters. Secondly, we can see the aspects that the system of the classes were disintegrated. Thirdly, we can see the appearance of wandering Yangban( 兩班 ) through Dong Chung( 동청 ) and Neng Jin( 냉진 ). Finally, we can see the expansion of conscience of women by studying women's function in the center of men in this novel. In chapter Ⅳ. it draws out the conscience of the writer on the basis of the facts enumerated above.;본 논문을 주로 ＜구운몽＞을 중심으로 논의되던 김만중의 작가의식을 총체적으로 고찰하기 위한 일 방편으로 ＜사씨남정기＞의 작중 인물을 분석한 것이다. ＜사씨남정기＞가 인현왕후폐위 사건과 관련된 소설임은 주지의 사실이고, 실제로 ＜사씨남정기＞연구는 작중 등장 인물과 실제 인물과를 연관시키는 것이 일반적이었다. 그 결과 ＜사씨남정기＞연구는 작품 자체를 작품 외적인 사건과 직접 연관시킴으로써 작품자체의 의미를 축소시키는 결과를 낳았다. 따라서, 본 논문은 작품 자체를 대상으로 해서 작중 인물을 분석하고, 그것을 통해 드러난 작중 인물의 설정 양상을 당시의 역사적, 사회적 상황과 연관지워 살펴 본 다음, 작가의식을 추출하고자 하였다. 연구의 진행 과정과 결과는 다음과 같다. Ⅰ . 장에서는 연구의 목적과 연구사를 검토하고, ＜사씨남정기＞를 처첩 갈등을 주로 다룬 가정소설로만 보는 입장 내지는 인현왕후폐위와 직접 연관지워, 그 범위 안에서만 작품을 해석하는 등의 그간의 연구 태도의 문제점을 지적하였다. Ⅱ . 장에서는 작품의 이해와 분석을 돕기 위해, 경판＜사씨남정기＞ 를 순차적 서술 단락으로 나누고 ＜사씨남정기＞가 시간과 공간, 그리고 인물들간의 관계 양상을 중심으로 구성되어 있음을 밝혔다. Ⅲ . 장에서는 작품에 등장하는 인물들을 외모, 인간 관계, 사건이나 사물에 대한 반응 등을 통해 분석하고 그 특징들을 추출한 다음, 인물을 분류하는 방법을 소개하고, 작중 인물을 유형별로 나누어 보았다. 이 장에서는 계속 앞의 분석 결과를 토대로 인물 설정 양상의 특성을 살펴 보았다. 작가는 당대의 역사적 · 사회적 현실에 밀착하여 人物들을 설정했는데 그것은 다음과 같은 사실을 드러내는 것이었다. 첫째, 윤리적 가치관과 물질적 가치관의 대립이 사정옥과 교채란 류연수와 동청, 냉진의 대립을 통해 부각되었다. 둘째, 교채란의 수차례에 걸친 신분이동을 통해 사회 신분제도가 붕괴되어 가는 양상이 드러난다. 세째, 동청, 냉진을 통해 양반 사회내에서 생겨나기 시작한 유랑양반군 내지는 유랑지식인이라 이름할 수 있는 새로운 인물군이 등장하였다. 네째, 작품내에서의 기능을 살펴보았을 때 여성들의 기능이 주도적이었고, 결혼 등의 중요 문제를 여성들이 직접 결정하는 것은 여성들의 스스로의 人生에 대한 적극적인 의지를 보여주는 것이었다. Ⅳ. 장에서는 이상의 결과를 바탕으로, 작가의식을 추출하였는데, 첫째, 작가는 당대의 현실을 있는 그대로 묘사하였고, 둘째, 여성에 대한 긍정적 인식을 가지고 있었다는 것이다.
