Abstract

김이석은 「단층」동인으로서 1930년대 후반부터 작품활동을 시작하여 1960년대까지 활동을 계속한 유일한 작가이다. 그러나 지금까지의 김이석에 대한 평가는 심리소설을 논하는 가운데 「단층」동인으로서 간단히 언급되는 정도이거나 어느 특정한 작품에 한정되어 다루어져 온 것이 사설이다. 이에 본고는 김이석의 전반적인 문학세계를 고찰함과 아울러 서술구조를 통해 그의 문학적인 특성을 밝히고자 시도하였다. Ⅱ장에서는 김이석 소설이 보여주는 시기적인 변화과정 가운데, 각 시기에 따른 뚜렷한 특징을 구현하고 있는 대표작을 선택하고, 그 서술구조를 분석함으로써 김이석 소설의 변화요인을 밝혀보고자 하였다. 따라서 각 시기에 따른 작품대상으로 「환등」 「실비명」 「동면」을 선택하였으며, 각 작품에서 보여지고 있는 내적 구조와 작가의 세계관에 대해 살펴보았다. 「환등」은 '나' 라는 일인칭주인공에 의해 서술되고 있는데 과거와 현재가 교차되는 병치적인 시간역전구조를 가지고 있으며, 화자의 공간은 주인공의 행위의 이동에 따라 외부공간을 내면화시키고 있다. 이러한 기법은 지식인의 자의식세계를 보여주고자 하는 작가의식의 한 면모임을 알 수 있다. 한편 「실비명」은 서술자가 외부세계에 존재하면서 전지적인 입장에서 작중인물을 이끌고 있는데 시간의 흐름은 순차적인 시간구조로 되어 있으며 화자의 공간은 외부공간과 내부공간이 공존하고 있다. 이를 통해서 작가는 현실로 관심을 돌려 주변을 관찰함으로써 서민들의 애환을 그리고 있으며 또한 새로운 윤리의식을 보여주고자 하였다. 반면에 「동면」은 「환등」과 마찬가지로 '나' 라는 일인칭서술자에 의해 서술되고 있으며 시간기법에서도 시간의 역전구조를 보인다. 그러나 과거와 현재의 교차가 반복되고 있는 것이 아니라 일회적인 시간역전구조를 지니고 있으며, 화자의 공간은 내부공간에서 외부공간으로 확산되고 있음을 살펴보았다. 따라서 작가는 이 작품에서 개인적 체험을 형상화하여, 과거의 사실을 현재의 시각으로 재투영하고 있음을 알 수 있다. Ⅲ장에서는 위의 분석을 통해서 보여지는 독성을 그 외의 다른 작품에 적용함으로써 이들 작품에서 나타나는 종합적 의미구조를 개인과 집안의 대립, 절망과 희망의 전도, 그리고 과거를 통한 현재의 재인식으로 각각 항목화하여 고찰하였다. 이상에서 「환핀등」 「실비명」 「동면」의 세 작품을 주요대상으로 하여, 서술구조라는 내재적인 접근방법을 통해, 김이석 소설이 시기적으로 변화되고 있는 과정과 이를 통해서 보여지는 의미를 아울러 고찰하였다. 이와 같은 서술구조분석은 김이석 소설에 대한 총체적인 작품세계의 이해에 그 목적을 두고 시도되었다는 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있을 것이다.;Kim I-Suk's was a fellow member of the "Dancheung" Association and he began writing from the latter half of 1930's and was the only novelist continued writing till 1960's. But up to the present the literary appreciation him was never treated prudently with discussion of his psychological novels as a fellow member of the "Dancheung" Association or the discussion about him have been limited to some of the specific works. Here the purpose of this thesis is not only to study a literary world of Kim I-Suk's whole works, but to make them clear his literary characteristics through the narrative structure of his novels. In Chapter Ⅱ, I chose his representative works emboding the remarkable characteristics along with the each writing stage in the timely change process which his novels reflect in, and I aimed to disclose the changing causes of Kim I-Suk's novels by analysing his narrative structure. Therefore, " The Magic Lantern" "The Epitaph Lost" and "The Wintering" were chosen as the objects of study, and I researched for the inner structure of these works and this writer's view of world. "The Magic Lantern" is narratived by the first-person narrator called "I" and has the time reversal structure crossing the present and the past. And the space of narrator is taken the outside space to the inside space with the actional movement of the main character. The technique like this, we can see, is a feature of the writer's consciousness that wants to show the self-conscious world of the intellectual. On the other hand, "The Epitaph Lost" is that a narrator is in the outside world and leads the characters in the omniscient position. The flow of tine consists of the regular time structure, and the narrator's space is that outside space and inside space coexist. From this viewpoint the writer is concerned with reality and observes his surroundings and in the same time describes the happiness and the sorrow of common people. He has also never forgotten to reveal their new ethical consciousness. While on the other "The Wintering" as "The Magic Lantern" is narratived by the first-person narrator called " I" and reveals the time reversal structure in the time technique. However. it is different from "The Magic Lantern" that the crossing of the present and the past is not repeated, and this work has once time-reversal structure. The space of narrator is expended from the inside space to the outside space. In accordance with the narrative technique of time and space, this writer is to put his experience reality in the concrete, and together with this, the projects the past facts into the present reality. In Chapter Ⅲ, the characteristics that are appeared through the above analysis are applied to the writer's whole works. Examining closely the total moaning structure, conflict of individual and group, inversion of hope and despair, the present reperception through the past, etc, these are the contents of this thesis that I hate discussed in studying of Kim I-Suk's novels. Like above discussion three works, " The Magic Lantern" " The Epitaph Lost" and "The Wintering", are treated as the important discussions, objects of this theses, and I have researched for the periodical change-process and the meaning of, Kim I-Suk's novels alone with the intrinsic approaching method of narrative structure. I have attempted an analysis of narrative structure that was aimed to understanding about the whole field of Kim I-Suk's novels. And here I think a meaning of writing of this thesis would be found.
