현진건 상상력의 연구

Abstract

현진건의 문학세계를 근본적으로 이해하기 위해서 본 연구는 작품 그 자체에 관심을 집중시켰다. 그리하여 작품에서 나타나는 이미지들의 연계성을 물질적 상상력의 차원에서 접근하여 전체작품의 질서를 파악하고자 한 결과 다음과 같은 것이 드러났다. 첫째, 현진건의 상상력내에서 물은 그 질료적인 특성인 무거움과 하강하는 역학적 운동으로 인하여 불길한 이미지, 죽음의 이미지를 표출하며 「운수좋은 날」의 분위기를 지배하고 있는 것으로 파악할 수 있었다. 부정적인 이미지는 안개, 피, 술, -그 기본적인 성격을 액체성이라 묶을 수 있는 물질에 있어서도 마찬가지이며 해체의 이미지 갈등의 이미지로 「술 권하는 사회 」나 「빈처」의 전반부를 주도하는 것임을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 상상적인 변화를 거처서 불의 속성을 지닌 물의 이미지가 생성되었고 이러한 것은 그 특성에 따라 확산과 상승의 운동을 하는 것으로 설명할 수 있으며 「빈처」 「정조와 약가」는 주로 확산하는 물의 이미지가, 「불」「적도」는 상승의 이미지가 더 많이 나타났으며 이것은 다시 작품에서 약동과 탄생이라는 주이미지로 묶을 수 있었다. 이것은 현진건의 전체작품의 질서중에서 중간의 위치를 차지하고 있으며 이 물과 불의 기나긴 투쟁끝에 나타나는 것이 현진건 상상력의 궁극성이라 할 수 있는 빛의 세계로 드러났다. 세째, 약동과 탄생의 이미지로부터 표출되어진 세계는 빛의 세계이며 작가가 가장 긍정적으로 제시하고 있는 것으로서 「불」의 건강이 넘치는 천지, 「적조」의 희망의 세계, 그리고 가장 집약적으로 드러난 것이 「정조와 약가」의 행복과 광명의 세계임을 알 수 있었다. 즉, 초기작품들은 물의 이미지가 지배적이었으나 후기로 갈수록 점차로 불의 속성을 지닌 물, 그리고 빛으로 이행해가는 과정을 전체 작품체제내에서 파악할 수 있었으며 이럴 때 각 작품의 해명과 아울러 전체의 질서가 밝혀졌다. 그리고 상상력의 움직임을 따라 작품을 이해하려는 본 연구가 선행연구와도 사실주의의 발전적논의란 점에서 일맥상통하다는 것을 밝혀낼 때, 더욱 의미있는 것임을 확인할 수 있었다.;This thesis is focused on Hyun Jin Gun's works themselves in order to understand his literary world fundamentally I tried to grasp the order of his whole works approaching the connection of the image in works from the view of materials imagination, Therefore I could get following conclusions. First, the water in Hyun Jin Gun's imagination expresses unlucky image a the image of death by it's weighty which is it's material character and descending dynamic movement. These images rulls "A Fortunate Day". (운수좋은 날) The fog, tile blood and the liquor of which fundamental character is fluid mean also negative images and these images lead "Society offering liquors"(술 권하는 사회) the first half of "Poor Wife" (빈처) as images of disassembling and of conflict. Second, the image of water with the property of fire was formed through imaginative change. It can be explained that it has the movement of diffusion and ascension, and in "A poor wife" (빈처) and "The chastity and the medical fee" (정조와 약가) the image of diffusing water, in "Fire"(불) "The Equator" (적도) the image of ascending water is mainly expressed. These can be classified by main images of lively motion and birth. In the order of Hyun Jin Gun's whole works this is ranked in the middle of the position. The world of light which is able to regard as eventuality of his imagination appeared after long struggle between water ξ fire. Third, the world of light is represented from the images of lively motion ξ birth presented most possitively by author. It can be explained that the world fulling health is represented in "Fire" (불) the world of hope in "The Equator" (적도), and the world of happiness and light in "The chastity and the medical fee"(정조와 약가) which is most intensively. Namely, the image of water rulls his early works but going the latter term the process to the water with the property of fire and the light is grasped in whole work system. Therefore whole work's order and elucidation of respective works become clear.
