劇作家 金祐鎭 硏究

Abstract

金祐鎭(1897-1926)은 우리나라 近代劇運動의 草創期인 1930年代 前半期에 대학에서 본격적인 연극수업을 받아 광범위한 劇團 · 批評 創作活動을 전재한 선구적인 연극인이었다. 본 연구는 金祐鎭의 自傳的 戱曲＜두더기 詩人의 幻滅＞과 ＜難破＞를 분석 대상으로 하고 그에 관한 모든 전기적 기록들을 참고로 하여 劇作家 金祐鎭의 作家精神을 구명(究明)하는 데 목적을 두었다. 金祐鎭의 어린 시절과 東京에서의 대학 시절, 그리고 卒業후의 연극에 관련된 활동들을 살펴보고 작품을 분석한 결과 그는 다음과 같은 특징을 지닌 극작가였음이 드러났다. 첫째, 자신의 가정환경을 많이 반영한 자전적인 인물들을 그의 희곡에 등장시키고 있다. 둘째, 서구작가들의 영향을 많이 받았다. 특히 당시의 현실에 불만을 느끼고 모든 기존가치를 전환시켜 새 삶을 모색해야 한다고 주장하던 그에게 죠오지 버나드 쇼오(George Bernard Shaw)의 「인간과 초인간」에 나타난 '생명력에 의한 사회개혁 '을 주장하는 사상은 큰 영향을 주었음을 알 수 있다. 또 서구작가들의 영향으로 그는 매우 독특한 여성관을 지니게 되었음을 알 수 있는데 그가 지닌 부정적이며 강한 여성관은 쇼오의 반낭만적 여성관과 아우구스트 스트린베리(August Strindberg)의 남성에 대립하는 부정적 여성관의 영향을 받았음을 알 수 있다. 세째, 그는 우리나라 최초의 表現主義戱曲을 쓴 작가였다. 그의 작품 ＜難破＞는 '3막으로 된 표현주의 극'이라는 부제 下에 내용 · 구성 · 무대기법 등에서 여러가지 표현주의극의 기법을 도입한 본격적인 표현주의극이다. 그가 1920년대의 우리현실에서 가장 적합한 창작양식은 표현주의라고 생각했음은 여러 글에서 나타난다. 결과적으로 위와 같은 특징을 지닌 극작가 金祐鎭은 당대의 현실을 예리하게 통찰하여 철저히 그리려 하였다는 것이 밝혀졌다. 그는 자신의 주위현실에 불만을 느끼고 이상세계를 열망하였던, 다시 말하면 현실과 이상의 괴리를 절실히 느끼며 그 때문에 괴로와했던 인물이었다. 작가로서의 그는 그러한 자신의 고뇌, 곧 당대인들의 고뇌를 작품을 통해 승화시키려는 시도를 하였음을 알 수 있으며 희곡을 통한 현실문제의 해결책 모색이라는 그의 시도는 계속되지 못하고 그의 자살로 좌절되었지만 매우 진지했었음을 알 수 있다. 金祐鎭은 극작가로서 5편의 창작희곡을 남겼을 뿐이지만 그는 1920年代 韓國演劇界에서 가장 선구적인 안목과 진지한 작가정신, 창작태도를 지녔던 劇作家였다.;On the first of the nineteen-twenties, the early stage of the Korean modern theatre, Kim, Woo-jin, who had taken a regular theatrical course at college and had developed a dramatic criticism and written many plays, was a pioneer in the Korean theatrical world. In this research, I analyzed Kim, Woo-jin's autobiographical dramas, The Disillusion of A Ragged Poet and A Ship Wreck, and aimed at the investigation of his spiritual world by reference to all of his autobiographical documents. Surveying his early, college days and later activities, and analyzing his dramas, I found that his characteristics as a dramatist were as follows. First, in his plays, autobiographical character setting reflects his domestic circumstance. Secondly, the western dramatists influenced him very much. Thirdly, he was the first who advocated expressionism in drama in Korea. He believed that in nineteen-twenties the most suitable creative mode was the expressionistic one and tried seriously an expressionistic piece in his work, A Ship Wreck. In conclusion, we can see that Kim, Woo-jin was the dramatist to penetrate keenly into and depict the reality of life of the day. That is, he was the man being deeply distressed about the gap between reality and ideal. As a dramatist, he tried to dramatize and sublimate the agonies of his own and the day. Though his efforts to seek the solution of the realistic problems through his we were frustrated, but we can see that Kim, Woo-jin was a dramatist who had a positive and earnest attitude of his creation.
