「금향뎡긔」硏究

Abstract

본 論文은 고소설「금향뎡긔」의 書誌와 源泉에 대한 연구이다. 본 論文에서는 「금향뎡긔」의 異本들을 검토하고, 그것이 중국소설 「錦香亨」의 번안작품임을 밝히는 데 주력하였다. 「금향뎡긔」가 아직까지 제대로 검토된 적이 없었기 때문에 우선 이 작품의 개요를 소개하고 각 이본의 서지 및 계열을 고찰하였다. 그 결과, 이 작품의 이본들은 그 내용에 있어 서울대본, 高大本, 京板本의 3가지 계열로 大別할 수 있었다. 3가지 계열의 이본들을 대비 · 고찰한 결과, 서울대본은 가장 서민적 취향을 지녔으며, 고대본은 양반층의 논리에 합당한 내용으로 변형이 가해졌고, 경판본은 그 중간에 위치하는 성격을 지녔음이 드러났다. 그러므로 독자층은, 서울대본의 경우에는 서민층, 고대본은 양반층, 그리고 경판본은 양반 부녀자층을 포함한 서민층이 主를 이루었을 것으로 보인다. 「금향뎡긔」가 번안작품인 까닭에 「금향뎡긔」와 중국소설「錦香亭」의 관계를 고찰하였다. 중국문학사에서 「錦香亭」의 위치를 살피고, 그 번안양상을 일치, 첨가, 생략 및 축약, 변형의 4가지 측면으로 나누어 비교하였다. 그 결과 韓國的 특성이라고 할 수 있는, 중국본과 「금향뎡긔」사이의 차이점이 드러났다. 즉 한국본에는 유교적인 덕목이 강조되었고, 뇌천연이 여장군형의 인물에 근접하며, 조선 말기의 사회상이 반영되어 있는 것이다. 「금향뎡긔」는 단순한 중국소설의 축자역이 아니며, 작품에 나타난 한국적 요소로 인하여 상당한 독자층을 확보하고 있었기 때문에 한국소설문학의 일부로 편입하여 연구할 가치를 지닌다. 「금향뎡긔」에 대한 서지적 검토 및 원천문제에 대한 고찰은 앞으로 이 작품의 본질에 대한 검토의 바탕이 될 것이며, 樂善齋本小說을 포함한 조선후기 장편소설에 대한 논의와 연결시킴으로써 확대되고 심화될 수 있으리라고 기대한다.;This thesis is the study on Keum Hyang Jeong Gi( 錦香亭記 ), the adaptation of the Chinese novel Chin-hsiang-t'ing, which was popular during the later Lee Dynasty. Because Keum Hyang Jeong Gi is one of the translated literatures, this thesis is focused on the discussion the retationship between Keum Hyang Jeong Gi and Chin-hsiang-t'ing as well as the discussion of the ten versions of Keum Hyang Jeong Gi. In the first chapter. the main goal, methodology and the object version of this study is clarified. In the second chapter, the content of this novel is introduced in the chronological order and each version is examined. This study showed that the characteristics of Kyeong Pan version, Seoul University version and Korea version are abstracted and the presumption of the original version is tried. In the third chapter, the relationship between Keum Hyang Jeong Gi and Chin-hsiang-t'ing is discussed. The position of Chin-hsiang-t'ing in the Chinese literary history is examined. The translation aspect between two novels is compared, which is divided into four types - agreement, addition, omission and abridgement, transformation. Especially, the meaning of the refraction that is appeared by examing the traslation aspect is considered. Through this work, the unique characteristics Lee Dynasty novel has had is found, thus keum Hyang Jeong Gi is not the translation but the adaptation of Chin-hsiang-t'ing. In the fourth chapter, the position and value of Keum Hyang Jeong Gi as an adaptation novel is discussed in the Korean novel history. This thesis can be a foundation for the further studies on the interpretion of Keum Hyang Jeong Gi and the advanced discussion of the long novel of the later Lee Dynasty.
