Abstract

＜담낭전＞은 조선 후기에 나온 특이한 형식을 갖춘 서사물이다. 본 논문은 이같은 작품의 형식과 관련하여 그 소설적 성격을 밝혀 내고 아울러 문학적 가치를 살펴 보고자하는 의도에서 시도되었다. Ⅱ장에서는 ＜담낭전＞의 문학적 성격을 서사적 구성의 고찰과 장르성의 추정으로 알아 보았다. ＜담낭전＞은 전체적으로 개인의 일대기 구성을 갖추고 있으며, 이것은 특히 誕生談 · 婚談 · 後日談의 존재로 영웅의 일대기 구성을 보이고 있다. ＜담낭전＞은 이와 같은 서사적 구조의 소설적 요소와 인물묘사의 소설화가 이루어겨 있으므로 說話나 野談이 아닌 소설로 파악할 수 있다. Ⅲ장에서는 ＜담낭전＞의 형성배경에 대해 살펴 보았다. 우선 형식적인 면에서 ＜담낭전＞은 對話體와 連結體로 구성된다. 이 형태는 설화와 조선의 고소설에서 역사적 원천을 발견할 수 있는 것이다. 또한, ＜담낭전＞은 지혜 겨루기와 言語遊戱로 내용이 구성된다. 이 두 요소는 모두 설화의 영역에서 자주 발견되는 것으로 그 가운데 兒智說話와 '山之高高撑石故'는 내용의 전개로 보아 ＜담낭전＞의 형성에 직접적으로 영향을 미치고 있다고 생각된다. Ⅳ장에서는 ＜담낭전＞의 구조와 의미에 대해 알아 보았다. ＜담낭전＞은 Ⅱ장에서 검토한 것과 같이 영웅소설의 구조로 이루어져 있다. 여기서는 이 구조에 대해 보다 심도있게 고찰한 결과, 英雄小說의 구조 안에 逸士小說의 요소를 내포하여 전체적으로는 前代 소설양식으로서의 영웅소설 구조를 수용하고 변모시키고 있다는 것을 밝혀 냈다. ＜담낭전＞은 문답이 내용의 핵심을 이루는 것이므로 문답을 분석하여 이 작품의 문학적 성격을 추출해 내고자 하였다. 문답은 등장인물의 智力과시와 함께 사회풍자의 수단으로 이용된다. 또만 문답승부 장면을 설정하여 儒敎的 價値觀을 소유한 태수와 道家的 價値觀을 지닌 담낭의 대결양상과 함께 담낭의 승리를 유도하여 道家的 世界觀의 승리, 反儒敎的 世界觀을 보여 주고 있다. Ⅴ장에서는 작가의 著作意圖와 함께 이 작품의 소설사적 위치를 살펴 보았다. ＜담낭전＞의 작가는 다양한 내용을 포괄하는 문답을 통해 그의 文才를 드러 내고, 벼슬을 거부하는 담당의 모습 속에 그 자신의 사고틀 반영하고 있다. ＜담낭전＞의 작가는 자신의 처지에 대한 위안을 위해 이 작품의 창작에 임했으리라고 생각된다. ＜담낭전＞은 개화기에 발생한 토론문답체 소설의 구성전개와 현대소설의 대화적 요소와의 관계 안에서 그 소설사적 위치가 명확해지고 있다.;Dam Nang Cheon(談囊傳), a narrtive dating basic to the late Yi Dynasty, is recognized for its very unique structure. In this thesis, the author aims to evaluate the literaty value of Dam Nang Cheon by studying its novelistic elements in relation to the unique structure. In chapter two, in depth study of the narrative structure is conducted to Dam Nang Cheon's literary character. Also, its genre is identified. In general, Dam Nang Cheon has the structure of a biography with birth story, marriage story, and old age story making up the biographical structure of an heroic novel. Because of such a novelistic element of narrative structure and character description Dam Nang Cheon can be identified as a novel rather than a tale or an unofficial historic romance. In the third chapter, the background of Dam Nang Cheon's looked into in both formal and contentive aspect Dam Nang Cheon is written in dialogical and sequential style. The origin of such can be found in tales and old novels of the Yi Dynasty. In addition Dam Nang Cheon contains much of vying in wisdom and playing of words. Also, Ajisulhwa(兒智說話) and 'Sanjigogotangsukgo'(山之高高撑石故) seem to have had direct influence on the story development of Dam Nang Cheon. Chapter four contemplates the structure and meaning of Dam Nang Cheon, As is noted in chapter two, Dam Nang Cheon has the structure of an heroic novel. A closer examination of the structure revealed that Dam Nang Cheon indeed depicts of an hero in Ilsa novel(逸士小說) within the structure of an heroic novel. This in overall, is adapted yet modified structure of heroic novel in former age. Question and answer discourse make up the core part of Dam Nang Cheon. Therefore in depth analysis of the question and answer can tell us much about the literatural character of this work. Question and answer contains both didactic and hedonistic function which are the two main functions of literature. Often question and answer method is used to show the intellect of a character in the story or to staire the society. However, here in Dam Nang Cheon, Question and answer is facilitated to compete 'Tai Soo'(太守) who holds Confucian ethic and 'Dam Nang'(談囊) who holds Taoist ethic as well as to indicate the victory of Taoist's world view by giving victory to 'Dam Nang'. Finally, in chapter five, the intention of the author in writing Dam Nang Cheon as well as its position in the history of novel as once again checked. The author of Dam Nang Cheon expressed his literary talent through the question and answer discourse that deal various topics. Also, the 'Dam Nang,' who refused goverment position, reflects the author's own way of thinking. It is believed that the author of Dam Nang Cheon wrote this story to console oneself. Indeed, Dam Nang Cheon stands firm in the chronicle of novel as the unique modern novel with dialogical elements that was written in the time of Enlightenment.
