Abstract
Robert Schumann is one of the greatest composer and critic in the nineteenth century While best remember for his piano music and song and some of his symphonic and chamber works, Schumann made significant contributions to all the musical genres of his day and cultivated a number of new ones as well. His dual interest in music and literature led him to develop a historically informed music criticism and a compositional style deeply indebted to literary models. A leading exponent of musical Romanticism, he had a powerful impact on succeeding generations of European composer. Especially Schumann's piano music presents new model of the Romanticism. In his piano music, he wrote many character pieces, three sonatas and a few sets of etudes and variations. This thesis deals with the sonata G minor, Op.22, which is one of the Schumann's representative works. Like the other romantic sonatas, it consists of four movements. The first movement is a traditional form, the second is a kind of theme and variations with a sweet and lyrical melody, the scherzo in the third movement is an unusual type, for it quite expended in length and dimension. And the fourth movement is rondo, large and difficult movement, designed to provide brilliant and effective conclusions. By the utilization of the Clara motto throughout the 4 movement, Schumann accomplishes unity in the whole work. Although his sonata's form is very strict, the methods of his composition is relatively, free and creative compared with that of the classical sonata. This sonata is varied with colorful effects by chromatic chords, enharmonic chords, vivid rhythms by syncopations, cross rhythms, varied tempo, modulations and canonic writings provide diversified compositional techniques. In a word, this sonata is characterized by its romantic trend in the compositional techniques and liberal contents, compared with the rigid form of the classical sonatas. Indeed, Piano sonata in G minor, Op.22 is one of his representative work which is shown Schumann's musical characteristics.;본 논문에서는 19세기 낭만주의 시대를 대표하는 작곡가 슈만(Robert Alexander Schumann 1810-1856)의 피아노 작품의 세계와 더불어 전형적인 고전적 소나타 형식의 틀 위에서 낭만 음악의 자유로움을 표현하는 구성기법이 잘 조화를 이룬 그의 작품 「Piano Sonata G minor, Op.221」을 분석 고찰하였다.
