C. 드뷔시의 「Images」 SetⅠ에 관한 연구

Abstract

20세기의 음악 발전에 중요한 역할을 한 드뷔시(Claude Achille Debussy 1862-1918)는 작곡가이자 피아니스트로 23곡의 피아노 솔로 곡을 작곡하였다. 본 논문에서는 그 중 필자의 석사 졸업 연주 곡목인 「Images」 Set Ⅰ에 관해 연구해 보았다. 드뷔시는 프랑스의 작곡가로 그의 시대에서 가장 중요한 음악가 중 하나로 그의 화성에서의 진보는 후대 작곡가들에게 깊은 영향을 끼쳤다. 과거의 전통적인 작곡 방식에서 벗어나 화성, 선율, 리듬, 조성 등에서 자유로운 기법을 택했는데, 이는 그 당시의 회화 양식인 인상주의^(1)와 맞물린다. 드뷔시의 피아노 음악의 양상을 보면, 화성은 7, 9, 11, 13 화음 등이 해결 없이 사용되었고, 증·감 음정이 자주 사용되었다. 그리고 과거에 사용을 꺼렸던 병진행도 자유롭게 쓰였다. 선율은 광범위한 음역을 움직이며, 온음음계·5음음계·선법 등을 사용하여 조성에 얽매이지 않았다. 리듬은 자유로우면서, 반복하는 형식을 보인다. 또한 음색에 있어서는 지속음(pedal point)을 사용하여, 모호한 느낌을 주게 한다. 드뷔시의 「Images」 Set Ⅰ에서는 위와 같은 특징들이 잘 나타나 있다. 「Images」 Set Ⅰ을 구성하는 각각의 세 곡들은 3부 형식으로 되어 있으며, 한 주제가 제시된 후 변형되어 재현되는 형식으로 되어있다. 제 1곡인 "Reflets dans I'eau"(물에 비치는 그림자)는 수면에 햇빛이 비치는 인상을 표현해 주는 곡으로 아르페지오를 통해 물결의 움직을 표현하였다. 온음 음계, 5음 음계, 선법등의 선율적인 구조를 보이고, 화성적으로는 7, 9, 11화음을 보인다. 페달 포인트(pedal point)가 많이 쓰이는데, 이런 특징은 「ImageⅠ」전반에 걸친 특징이라 볼 수 있다. 제 2곡인 "Hommage a Rameau" (라모를 찬양하여)는 제 1곡의 "Reflets dans 1'eau"처럼 조용한 분위기로 엄숙한 분위기를 낸다. 드뷔시가 라모 (Jean Philippe Rameau 1683-1764)를 추모하며 작곡했는데, 라모의 시대인 바로크 시대 매의 느린 사라방드(Sarabande)로 작곡되었다. 제 3곡인 'Mouvement"(움직임)은 16분음 셋잇단음표의 빠르고 규칙적인 리듬 반복으로 움직임을 표현하였다. 박자마다 나오는 스타카토는 마치 타악기가 박자를 세고 있는 듯한 느낌을 준다.;Claude Achille Debussy (1862-1918) who played a tremendous role in the development of 20th century classical music, was a composer as well as a pianist. He wrote 23 pieces for piano solo. This paper studies thoroughly about 'Images, Set I which was included in the present writer's graduation recital program. Debussy was a French composer and was one of the most important musicians of his age. His work in harmony influenced many composers. He did not quite follow the accepted style of composition, being rather free in terms of harmony, melody, rhythm and tonality. It developed into "Impressionism", which was the main style of painting in his era. Debussy did not give attention to formality; rather he used liberal techniques. He used a wide range of compass, and also the whole-tone scale, pentatonic scale and modes for his melodies. Also, he used dissonances such 7^(th), 9^(th), 11^(th), 13^(th) chords and parallel motion which is not conventional. Liberal rhythm and effects of pedal point arouses a vague atmosphere. This paper studies 「Images」Set I in detail regarding the points of Debussy's piano works made above. The three pieces of which the work is composed are "Reflets dans l'eau", "Hommage a｀ Rameau" and "Mouvement". All are in three-part form. The first piece, Reflets dans I'eau gives a descriptions of sunlight reflecting on the surface of water, and Debussy expressed this with arpeggios. The Whole-tone scale, pentatonic scale and mode forms influence his melodic structures, and 7th, 9^(th) and 11th chords shows up. Pedal points were used in many places, and this characteristic is true of the entire work. The second piece, Hommage a｀ Rameau also exhibits a quiet and grave mood, similar to Reflets dans I'eau, Cherishing Jean Philippe Rameau (1683- 1764), Debussy wrote this as a slow sarabande which is a reflection of the Baroque. The third piece, Mouvement, expresses a 'movement' with the repetition of fast and regular rhythms of sixteenth note triplets. Staccato that comes up on every beat gives a feeling of a percussion instrument keeping the rhythm.
