Alban Berg의 가곡 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 20세기 현대음악의 대표적 작곡가인 Alban Berg(1885-1935)의 연가곡 < 7개의 초기 가곡-Sieben fru‥he Lieder >에 관한 연구이다. 작곡자 알반 베르크는 쇤베르크(Arnold Scho‥nberg, 1874-1951)와 베베른(Anton von Webern, 1883-1945)과 함께 '제2빈 악파'로서 20세기 음악의 특징인 무조성과 12음기법을 체계적으로 완성시킴으로서 음악사에 있어서 커다란 혁신을 가져온 음악가이다. 그러나 쇤베르크와 베베른과는 달리 그는 자유로운 음렬주의자였다. 그의 작품에는 현대적인 감각의 표현과 무조적인 음렬기법을 서정적이며 조성적인 요소와 융화시켜 활용함으로써, 자신만의 독특한 작곡양식을 구축, 발전시켜 나갔다. 특히 그가 작곡초기에 주력한 가곡에서 보여지는 문학에 대한 깊은 관심과 이해는 일생동안 그의 작품세계를 뒷받침하는 중요한 요소로서 작용하게된다. 본 연구자는 여기에서 먼저 베르크의 생애에 대해 고찰해 본 후에, 그 당시 음악적 배경과 그가 속했던 제2빈 악파에 대해 간단히 알아보고, 주요 작품과 작곡경향으로 시기를 구분하여 본 성악 작품을 통해 그의 음악세계와 작곡기법에 대하여 살펴본 후, 마지막으로 < 7개의 초기 가곡-Sieben fru‥he Lieder >을 분석함으로서, 20세기 현대음악 발전에 큰 공헌을 한 베르크에 대한 가곡의 전반적인 이해와 접근을 시도해 보고자 한다.;This study is on <Sieben fru¨he Lieder> of Alban Berg, one of the leading figures in 20th century modern music. He is identified as part of ´Second Viennese School´ along the likes of Arnold Scho¨nberg(1874-1951) and Anton von Webern(1883-1945). By formulating the study of atonality and 12-note system - the signature characteristics of the 20th century modern music, Bergs contribution to the history of music is invaluable. However, unlike Scho¨nberg and Webern, he was a man of free serialism. Throughout his career, Berg developed unique compositional techniques of his own, by combining modernistic expression and atonal serialism with lyrical and compositional elements. In particular, his keen understanding and interest of literature revealed in his early works acted as a significant source of inspiration for all his later works. In this study, I will examine Berg’s life and his musical background as well as the brief history of Second Viennese School. Furthermore, his world of music and compositional techniques will be explored by studying his works - categorized into major works and stylistic periods. By analyzing <Sieben fru¨he Lieder>, I will attempt to achieve an overall understanding of Bergs songs.
