Edvard Grieg(1843-1907)의 성악곡 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 Edvard Hagerup Grieg(1843∼1907)의「Solveig sang,(op.23), 「En Svane」(op.25),「Va˚ren」(op.33),「Fra Monte Pincio」(op.39)의 네 개의 가곡에 대한 연구이다. Edvard Grieg는 19세기 후기 낭만주의 시대의 노르웨이(Norway)를 대표하는 국민주의 음악가로서 조국 노르웨이의 국민음악의 기초를 확립하여 그 수준을 높이 올려놓았다. 당대의 사회적 주류를 이루었던 민족주의는 음악에서도 중요한 역할을 하였으며 그 당시까지 독일음악의 기법을 배운 나라들이 독일 중심주의에서 탈피하여 자기나라 고유의 민족음악을 연구하면서 독자적인 국민음악을 확립하는데 전념하게 되었다. 즉 그들의 언어와 풍습을 음악 속에 표현하여 자기나라 고유의 개성 있는 음악을 작곡하게 된 것이다. 그런데 이 당시의 그리그의 출생지인 노르웨이는 음악적 수준이 낮았을 뿐 아니라 고유의 음악이란 민요와 민속무곡들 뿐이었고, 음악문화의 일반적인 현상은 독일 음악을 연주하며 이를 감상하는데 지나지 않았다. 그리그도 독일의 라이프찌히(Leipzig)에서 독일음악을 교육받았으나 그 당시 음악 문화의 조류였던 민족주의에 자극을 받아 자기나라 음악을 진흥시키려는 노력을 기울이게 되었다. 그러므로 그의 작품에는 민족적이고 민속적인 요소가 많이 나타나있으며, 150여 개에 달하는 많은 그의 가곡들에서 그 특징들이 잘 나타나있다. 그는 덴마크, 독일, 노르웨이의 뛰어난 서정시들을 골라서 작곡하였는데, 특별히 노르웨이의 시에 의한 가곡들에서 그의 음악적 특징을 알 수 있다. 이에 노르웨이의 시에 의한 대표적인 네 곡의 성악곡을 연구하여, 그리그 가곡의 특징을 알아보았다. 그의 가곡은 비교적 간단한 형식으로 되어있지만, 매력적인 선율을 지니고 있고, 시의 감정적인 내용을 다양한 화성과 다이나믹을 통해 표현하고 있다. 또한, 그의 가곡은 번역이 아닌 원래의 노르웨이어 그대로 연주되어야 그가 음악에서 나타내고자 했던 언어적 미묘함까지로 표현할 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.;This thesis is the study on Edvard Hagerup Grieg(1843∼1907)'s four important songs, <Solveigs sang>, <En Svane>, <Va˚ren> and <Fra Monte Pincio>. Edvard Hagerup Grieg formed the basis of national music of Norway, his fatherland, and brought up greatly a musical level of the country as a nationalistic musician. The Nationalism which was the social current of his time, it took an important role in the music of the 19th century. In the countries who had adopted the techniques of German music since the foundation of classicism devoted themselves to establishing their own national music, they have studied their own national and traditional music. In other words, they composed their own characteristic music, expressing their own language and culture through their music. But in Norway of the time where Grieg was born, the musical level was very low and all that could be called as national music were only folk songs or music that accompanied folk dances. General practice of their music culture was to preform German music and to appreciate it. Grieg received traditional German music education in Leipzig but he was deeply affected by the nationalism which was the current music culture of the time and tried to reinstate music of Norway. Thus, we could see the national and folk-customary aspects in his songs which amounts to one hundred and an half. He composed songs to the beautiful lyrics of Danish, German and Norway. And especially in Norwegian lyrics, one realize that, his specialty lies on this music. So I studied properties of Grieg's song by the research of his four representative Norwegian lyric song. His song has comparatively simple forms, and the line is very attractive. It express the emotion of poetry through the harmony and dynamics. In this study, I learned that if it's possible, Grieg's song should be sung in original Norwegian language, so a singer could express the linguistic nuance, which Grieg has intended.
