의상 디자인의 줄무늬(stripe pattern) 연구

Abstract

본 논문의 목적은 스트라이프 패턴의 종류를 알아보고, 20세기 이후 현대 서양 여성 패션에 나타난 스트라이프 패턴의 시각적 효과와 이미지를 분석해 봄으로써 스트라이프 패턴의 디자인적 표현을 재조명해보고 이를 토대로 디자인을 제시하는 데 있다. 본 논문을 수행하기 위해 스트라이프 패턴에 관한 이론적 고찰은 직물 관계 서적을 이용하였고, 복식사 관계 서적이나 국내외 패션 잡지, 패션 정보지 등을 이용하여 시각적 효과와 현대 패션에 나타난 스트라이프에 대해 고찰한 후 이 연구 내용을 중심으로 디자인을 개발, 실물 제작하여 스트라이프 패턴을 이용한 다양한 의상디자인을 시도하였다. 스트라이프 패턴은 처음 직조되면서 자연적으로 발생된 무늬로서 가장 단순한 형태를 띄고 있는 무늬이다. 스트라이프 패턴은 문양의 한 표현으로서 직조나 편조 또는 프린팅을 통해 나타나지만 자수나 트리밍 등에 의해서도 스트라이프 효과를 나타낼 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 스트라이프 패턴의 종류를 기법상과 표현상으로 분류하여 연구하였다. 기법상으로는 직조, 편직, 프린팅, 봉제와 기타로 분류하고, 표현상으로는 크게 한 종류의 줄로 된 것과 두 종류 이상으로 이루어 진 것으로 분류하였다. 스트라이프 패턴의 시각적 효과로서 구성 요소인 선의 특성에 따라 일반적으로 선의 굵기나 간격 방향에 의해 착시효과가 일어난다. 그러나 본 논문에서는 스트라이프 패턴의 배치된 방향을 기준으로 간격과 굵기에 따라 수직, 수평, 사선, 혼합으로 나누었는데, 수직 배치된 스트라이프 패턴에서는 그 수가 많아지면 시설이 수평으로 이동하여 수평의 착시를 만들어 역효과를 주게 되고, 수평 배치의 스트라이프 패턴의 경우는 대체로 긍정적인 착시효과를 보이는데 이는 선의 반복에 따라 시선이 수직으로 움직여 날씬해 보이는 효과를 주기 때문이다. 또한 사선의 경우는 기울기가 작용하는데 기울기가 큰 경우는 수직의 효과, 적은 경우는 수평의 효과를 주게 된다. 마지막으로 혼합의 경우는 효과적 이용을 통해 착시의 극대화를 이룰 수 있다. 스트라이프 패턴의 또 다른 시각적 효과로 색채 효과를 두 색의 배색과 멀티 배색으로 나누어서 살펴보았다. 두 색의 배색에는 유사와 대비배색, 그리고 무채색과의 배색을 알아보았고, 멀티 배색은 경쾌한 배색, 중후한 배색, 강렬한 배색, 차가운 배색, 온화한 배색으로 나누어 각 특성과 패션에 나타난 예를 제시하였다. 현대 패션과 스트라이프 패턴에서는 스트라이프 패턴의 유행을 알아보았다. 이는 기하학적 양식이 본격적으로 대두된 1920년대를 시작으로 1960년대 이전과 이후로 즉, 20세기 전반기와 후반기로 나누어 대표적으로 많이 사용되었던 스트라이프 패턴을 현대 패션과 더불어 살펴보았다. 현대 패션에 나타난 스트라이프 패턴의 네 가지 특징을 보면, 첫째 다양한 변형과 재구성으로 그래픽적인 변형이나 다른 모티프와의 결합, 새로운 표현 방법 등으로 나타나고 있다. 둘째 색상의 다채화 경향으로 대표적으로 미소니(Missoni)의 영롱한 색채의 스트라이프를 들 수 있다. 셋째 패턴의 미스매치 경향을 들 수 있는데, 패턴 미스매치를 통한 코디네이션으로 실험적이고 포스트 모던한 이미지를 주고 있다. 넷째 드레이핑 효과의 표현으로, 스트라이프 패턴은 그 특성상 드레이핑 효과를 통해 시각적 이끌림을 유도하여 그 효과를 극대화하고, 인체를 아름답게 표현할 수 있음을 알 수 있다. 마지막으로 현대 패션에서 다양하게 나타나고 있는 스트라이프 패턴의 이미지를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 매니시 이미지, 스포티 이미지, 엘레강스 이미지, 에스닉 이미지로 크게 나누어져 각각의 이미지는 의상 디자인에 반영되어 나타나고 있었다. 이상의 스트라이프 패턴의 시각적 효과와 현대 패션에서 보이는 스트라이프 패턴을 이용한 다양한 디자인 사례들과 이미지를 통하여 디자인을 창작하였다. 디자인 컨셉과 스타일을 보면, 디자인 Ⅰ은 'Modern Elegance'로 흑백 의 모던한 색배합의 스트라이프 패턴을 드레이핑 효과를 이용하여 엘레강스 감각을 느끼게 했다. 디자인 Ⅱ는 'Idealism'으로 노랑색 털실과 투명한 노방으로 스트라이프 패턴을 제작하여 수직 실크에 덧씌움으로서 투명하고 미래적인 느낌을 주었고, 스트라이프 패턴의 간격을 달리하여 재미를 더하였다. 디자인 Ⅲ은 'Luxurious Glamour'로 로맨틱한 이미지를 주기 위해 치마단에 4개의 무를 달았고, 깊게 패인 가슴에 퍼(fur)로 트리밍을 하여 럭셔리함을 표현했다. 디자인 Ⅳ는 매니시한 느낌의 싱글 스트라이프를 사용한 'Mordern Classic'으로 도시 감각의 모던한 슈트에 클래식함을 더하고자 허리부분에 주름을 잡아 낭만적 특성을 표현했다. 각각의 디자인 창작을 위한 이미지 맵, 작업 지시서를 작성하고, 실제로 작품을 제작하였다. 이는 스트라이프가 주는 시각적 효과와 그 특성들에 근거하여 제작되었다.;The purpose of this study is to find out various types of stripes pattern and to review its' design expression by analysing stripe pattern and visual effect appeared in western woman fashion after 20th centuries and eventually, to suggest new design based upon them. For this dissertation, we referred to the books concerning textile industry, history of the style of a dress and fashion mazagine from inside and outside of the country. A stripe pattern which is a expression of emblem can be expressed by weaving, knitting and printing but stripe effect also can be obtained by trimming and embroidery. Thus, this study made an investigation of the types of stripe pattern by separating them according to the technique used and its' expression. According to technical classification, it can be classified into weaving, knitting, printing, needlework and etc and as for the classification by expression, it can be mainly classified into one line stripe pattern and two or more lines stripe pattern. As regards the visual effect of the stripe pattern, on the basis of the stripe pattern's direction laid out, we made an investigation of it by classifying it into verticality, horizontality, slant line and mixture of them according to its' gap and thickness. In the stripe pattern that is laid out vertically, contrary effect was found based on horizontal optical illusion resulting from increase in numbers of stripes which making people's eye move horizontally. But in case of stripe pattern that is laid out horizontally, there was an overall positive effect of optical illusion stems from repeated line which makes human's eyes move vertically so people feel the size of matter less than it's actual size. The sloper works as a variant in the slant line. The effect of verticality can be produced through steep slope, to the contrary, the effect of horizontality is anticipated if the slope is gentle. Finally, incase of mixture of all above, we find that we can maximize the effect of optical illusion through effective application. As for the another visual effect of stripe pattern, we inquired into color effect by classifying them into two coloring and multi coloring. With the two coloring, we did research on similarity, contrasting coloring and color arrangement with achromatic color and in the research of multi coloring, we tried to suggest each property and example appeared in fashion by classifying them into light, profound, strong, cold and warm coloring. As regards the modern fashion and stripe pattern, we investigated the mode of stripe pattern by classifying the era, beginning from 1920's when geometrical method got into stride to 1960's, that is to say, by dividing era into the first half and the second half of 20th centuries. Here are the 4 features of the stripe pattern appeared in modern fashions. The first, graphic variation based on diverse variation and reconstruction and combination between other motifs is being on the rise as a new expression. The second, colorful stripes of Missoni can be exampled as the trend of diversification of colour. The third, as regards the trend of mismatch in pattern, coordination through mismatch can produce experimental and post-modern image. The fourth, as for the expression of draping effect, we find that stripe pattern can maximize visual effect through draping by inducing visual stimulus, as well as can express human body in a beautiful manner. Finally, from the result of analysis of stripe pattern images that are being appeared in various form in the modern fashion, we find that there are 4 main images such as mannish image, sporty image, elegance and ethnic image and each of these images is being reflected in clothing design. We created 4 design concept through the image and various design cases which used stripe pattern appeared in modern fashion and visual effect of stripe pattern. Design Ⅰ, The modern elegance, emphasized elegance sense using draping effect on stripe pattern of black and white modern coloring. Design Ⅱ, Idealism, giving an impression of transparent and futuristic image by putting stripe pattern that is made of transparent silk and yellow wool over vertical silk and changed the gap between stripe pattern for enjoyment. Design Ⅲ, luxurious glamour, 4 gussets were attached to the tail of a skirt for an romantic image and expressed luxury by trimming with fur in the V-necked chest. Design Ⅳ, the modern classic using single stripe of mannish impression, expressed romantic property by folding a tuck in the part of waist in order to add classic to modern suit of urban impression. We really made actual cloth by preparing job slip and image man for creation of design for each concept and works progressed according to the property and visual effect that stripe has.
