The advent and burgeoning of Dutch Flower Still Life Paintings in the seventeenth century denote the socioeconomic values. The objective of those paintings is not to display graphic visualization, but to represent social hierarchy in that as the imported exotic, recherch items, the flowers were classified in the terms of their rarity and expensiveness. In this sense, it is paradoxical that the images of the paintings conjure up the triumph of fortune and, at a later date, the penitence for avarice. For this intriguing research, the subject is circumscribed to a vase of flowers, which is the quintessence of Dutch Flower Still Life Paintings. Before probing Dutch Flower Still Life Paintings, in chapter II, the origin of Dutch Flower Still Life Paintings is delved into the motif of a vase of flowers in Flanders realistic religious paintings from the fifteenth to the sixteenth century and the secular paintings in the sixteen century. In this respect, the flowers have the materialistic connotation beyond the symbol of nature. In the following chapter, it is asserted that blooming of Dutch Flower Still Life Paintings engendered by the historical context was both the fruit of the Dutch foreign trade and the token of the individual prosperity to the artists and the clients, both of whom vigorously functioned as consumers as well as producers. In other words, the Dutch Saturnian era was exemplified by tens of or hundreds of introduced and improved variety of flowers, china vases, and American or Indian sea shells depicted in Dutch Flower Still Life Paintings. Therefore, this kind of flower paintings fashioned as extravagant commodities was recognized as a luxury itself, and it served as an instrument to boast individual opulence. In the last chapter, it is estimated that Dutch Flower Still Life Paintings was a means of social evaluation toward the ostensible abundance of the Dutch golden age. In the seventeenth century, the Christianity was an ethics of life. The Dutch perceived that they could worship God through the paintings, appreciating worldly benediction and remaining pious. Virtually, the flower became an analogue of the human being, alluding to mortality, and then has been used as Vanitas in the art history along with skeleton, clock, water drop, candle, and the like. However, the frenetic Tulipomania in the 1630's affixed the tulips to the signification, such as "idiocy" and "cupidity." In this ambiance, the aspect of Vanitas in the flowers was intensified in the seventeenth century subsequently, it is verified that, the edification of Vanitas is identified without any conspicuous figures. It is tenable that by scrutinizing the genesis and evolution of Dutch Flower Still Life Paintings in the milieu of the seventeenth century, when Dutch flourished with foreign trade and, as a result, sumptuous penchant were proliferated, Dutch Flower Still Life Paintings is deciphered as the emblem of the Dutch Golden Age.-
