시리즈 우표 디자인을 위한 연구

Abstract

우표는 다른 媒體보다도 한층 깊이 文化 발달 속에 뿌리 박고 있는 수단이며, 그 표현의 동기, 대상으로 인하여 하나의 역사적 성격을 지닌다. 그래픽 디자인의 한 분야인 우표디자인은 시대의 변천에 따라 文化를 종합한 藝術로서 그 시대의 리얼리티를 표현한다. 그래서 그 시대 文化의 表現樣式을 대변한다고 할 수 있을 것이다. 우표는 意味論的 대상으로서 그 나라 이미지를 좌우한다고 볼 때 효과있는 方法의 硏究가 必要하다. 硏究者가 시리즈우표디자인을 論題로 택한 동기는 3年 가까이 체신부 우표디자인실에 勤務하면서 연구할 가치가 충분히 있다는 점을 깨달았기 때문이다. 우리 나라 우표를 他國과 비교하여 볼 때, 그 종류가 많고 통합된 굳 디자인(good design)의 시리즈우표가 부족하다고 볼 수 있다. 이 점에 입각하여 주어진 테마 아래 同一化하는 질서를 가진 시리즈우표가 우리 나라 아이덴티티를 부각시킬 수 있다고 생각한다. 本 硏究는 시리즈우표디자인의 實際를 연구함으로써 우표디자인이 추구해야 할 바람직한 視覺的 表現의 한 方向을 제시하고자 한다. 本 硏究를 진행함에 있어 시리즈의 테마를 음악으로 택하였다. 音樂은 다른 테마의 우표들 보다 심성에 이르러, 보다 시각적이고 직접 감각에 어필하는 특성을 갖고 있다. 本 論文에서는 우표디자인의 종류 중에서 시리즈우표디자인이 그 나라의 퍼스낼리티를 가장 잘 살릴 수 있는 一貫性 있는 우표라는 점에 착안하여 Ⅱ장에서는 시리즈우표의 槪括을 다룸으로써 우표의 발생과 변천, 시리즈우표디자인의 개념, 그리고 구체적인 음악시리즈의 방향 설정을 하기 위해서 現存하는 음악시리즈우표의 表現 言語를 고찰하여 보았다. Ⅲ장에서는 우표만의 독특한 造形要素와 우표의 인쇄기법 등 우표디자인의 특수성을 論하였다. 또한 우표디자인에 행해진 여러 표현형식 중에 사진, 드로잉에 의한 일러스트레이션, 기타 등으로 분류하고 일러스트레이션에 있어서 도구 및 재료상의 방법과 디자인상의 技法으로 분석하여 시리즈우표디자인의 實際를 보여 주고 있다. Ⅳ장에서는 음악시리즈를 제작하기 위한 곡명선정의 결과로 테마를 정하여 視覺化해 봄으로써 시리즈우표디자인이 추구해야 할 바람직한 시각표현의 한 方向을 提示하였다. 동요는 어린시절의 추억을 바탕으로 동화적이고 환상적인 분위기를 내고자 하였고 가곡은 좀 더 고차원적이며 서정적인 표현을 하였다. 민요는 가락에 맞추어 춤을 추는 여인들로 율동적인 표현을 시도했다. 즉 「고향의 봄」, 「나뭇잎배」, 「오빠생각」, 「보리밭」, 「목련화」, 「성불사의 밤」, 「아리랑」, 「달아 달아 밝은 달아」 등 8점의 우표를 디자인 하였다. 이에 사용된 일러스트레이션들은 음악언어의 멜로디와 시각언어의 색체, 형태가 하나의 통일된 단위로서 리드미컬한 視覺表現을 꾀하였다. 그래서 악보와 그밖의 조형요소가 전체로서 통일감을 이루도록하여 시리즈우표디자인의 一貫性을 강조하였다. Ⅴ장 결론에서는 가장 작은 시각미디어인 우표디자인은 우리 나라 이미지를 보다 효과적으로 表現할 수 있는 시리즈우표디자인 개발이 必要하며 계속 연구해야 하는 중요한 課題임을 강조하였다. 앞으로의 우표디자인 연구는 좀더 구체적이고 밀도 있게 진행되어야 할 것으로 생각된다. 또한 시리즈우표디자인의 다각적인 활용 방안이 모색되어야 할 것이다. 일반인에게 작으로 강하고 매력적인 매체인 우표에 대한 관심이 더욱 있었으면 하는 바람이다.;Postage stamp is a medium which is deeply rooted in the culture of the times. The presentation motifs and subject of postage stamp carry historical characters. Postage stamp design as a part of graphic design, is the art integrating and representing the times' culture and reality, so that postage stamp design takes a role of representing the presentation style of culture better than any other works of art and media. Thus, it can be said that postage stamp is the medium expressing the image of a nation. In view of these facts mentioned above, it is required to deeply study on postage stamp design. I myself felt keenly the necesity of the study especially on a series of postage stamp Designs while I have been working as a stamp designer in the Postage Stamp ＆ Philately Division of the Ministry of Communications, for more three years. In comparison of our postage stamps and other countries' it is considered that there are shorts of serial postage stamps designed with various and integrated themes. In view of the fact, a series of postage stamps with identifying orders can enhance the identity of our country. In this study, I made a study of the postage stamp designs used in Music Series. The reason why I choose music as theme of the postage stamp designs is that the music is an art of sound with a pecularity strongly to appeal to men's direct sensory than any others used as the themes of postage stamp designs, In Ch.Ⅱ, I studied on the origin and development of postage stamp designs and on the concept of the word "series", thus to show how well they have conveyed the personality of their own nations. To build the concrete presentation way of the music series, I surveyed the figures and languages in the postage stamp designs of music series issued by various countries in the world. In Ch. Ⅲ, I explained about the pecularity of postage stamp designs and the unique formal elements and printing process of postage stamps. The design methods of postage stamps were classified into two; illustrations by photographs or drawings, and others. The illustrations were again divided into two ; illustrated by materials and instruments, and by various design methods. And, for the examples, some serial postage stamp designs were shown. In Ch. Ⅳ, to suggest the desirable way of visual presentation for a series of postage stamp designs, I designed eight postage stamps according to the themes of the songs with their musical scores. The theme songs are as follows ; the Spring of My Home, A Leaf Boat, Reminscence on My Brother, Barley Field, Magnolia, The Night at the Sungbul Temple, Arirang, Moon! Moon! Bright Moon!. These postage stamps were illustrated by the musical language of melody and the visual language of color and form. These postage stamps have a similarity in their design form, which gives a unity and consistancy to them. In Ch. Ⅴ, the chapter of conclusion, I emphasized that it is a very important task to study and develop a series of postage stamp designs, in the light of that postage stamps, the smallest visual mediumcontaining all realities of art of our nation, can represent most efficiently the image of our country.
