상담자 애착유형과 심리적 불편감 및 지각된 사회적지지와의 관계에서 사회적 자기효능감,정서적 자각의 매개효과 검증

Abstract

상담의 필요성에 대한 저변확대와 더불어, 자질을 갖춘 상담전문가를 양성해내는 일이 중요해지고 있다. 상담자는 치료에 있어서 우선적으로 자신을 도구로 사용하므로(Sussman, 1992), 스스로의 문제와 상담자가 되려는 동기를 의식하고 있는 것은 자신뿐만 아니라 궁극적으로 내담자를 보호하고 치료 효과를 높이기 위한 선행조건이다. 그러나 상담자 동기와 관련하여 많이 언급되고 있는 애착관련 연구들은 대부분 상담 과정, 성과와의 관계성 검증에 치중하고 있는 것이 현실이다. 본 연구의 목적은 상담자 애착을 사회적 유능성 모델(Social Competencies in Interpersonal Processes; SCIP)에 도입하여 대인관계변인들과 종합적으로 분석하고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위해 불안정 애착 유형의 상담자들이 느끼는 심리적 불편감과 지각된 사회적지지에 있어서 사회적 자기효능감과 정서적 자각이 어떻게 매개역할을 하는지 그 경로를 탐색하였다. 연구 참여자들은 상담 및 임상을 전공하는 학생과 상담 경험이 있는 수련생을 포함한 166명의 상담자들로, 다섯 개의 척도가 포함된 자기 보고식 형태의 질문지를 작성하도록 하였다. 연구에서 검증하고자 하는 가설적 모형은 Mallinckrodt(2005)의 연구와 같이, 불안 애착과 회피애착을 독립변인으로, 사회적 자기효능감과 정서적 자각을 매개변인으로, 심리적 불편감과 지각된 사회적지지를 종속변인으로 설정하였다. 모형검증은 매개변인의 사용이 용이하고 이론 모형에 대한 통계적 평가가 용이한 구조방정식모형을 사용하였다. Mallinckrodt 와 Wei(2005)의 연구결과를 기초로 가설모형을 설정하였으며 포함된(nested) 모형인 네 개의 경쟁모형과 비교하였다. 매개효과 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 불안 애착과 심리적 불편감 및 지각된 사회적지지와의 관계에서 사회적 자기효능감이 유의미한 매개역할을 하는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 불안애착이 강한 상담자들은 사회적인 상황에서 자신감이 부족하고 대인관계 장면에서 친밀한 우정을 발달시키기 어렵다고 느낀다. 이렇게 낮아진 사회적 자기효능감은 스트레스 사건을 대할 때 부정적 사고, 정서, 기억들을 끊임없이 반추하는 등 심리적 불편감을 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 사회적 자기효능감이 낮을수록 대인관계 속에서 사회적지지를 더 낮게 지각하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 회피 애착과 심리적 불편감 및 지각된 사회적지지와의 관계에서 정서적 자각이 유의미한 매개역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 회피애착이 높은 상담자들은 정서가 관여되는 사건들에 관여하기를 꺼리는 경향이 강하기 때문에 감정의 면면들을 관찰하고 자각하는 능력이 떨어진다. 또한 이렇게 정서적 자각이 낮을수록 심리적 불편감은 증가하며, 사회적 지지를 낮게 지각하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과는 불안정 애착을 지닌 상담자의 사회적 자기효능감과 정서적 자각을 얼마나 향상시킬 수 있는가에 따라 차후 우울, 불안 같은 심리적 불편감을 낮추고 주위 사람들이나 환경에서 지지를 많이 받는다고 느끼게 하는 관건임을 알 수 있다. 이는 효과적인 상담자 교육을 위해서인지적 요인과 정서적 요인에 대한 고려가 필요함을 시사하는 것이다. 궁극적으로 본 연구결과는 효율적인 상담자가 되기 위해서는 자신과 타인의 돌봄 사이에서 균형을 유지하기 위한 지속적인 모니터링(monitoring)이 중요하다는 것을 말해준다.;Elements of the social competence and interpersonal processes model(Mallinckrodt, 2000) were tested in this survey study of 166 counselors. Two social competencies were hypothesized to mediate the direct effects of two independent variables, attachment anxiety and avoidance, on two outcomes, psychological distress and perceived social support. Research hypotheses were as follows: 1. Emotional awareness would be a significant mediator between attachment avoidance and psychological distress. 2. Emotional awareness would be a significant mediator between attachment avoidance and perceived social support. 3. Social self-efficacy would be a significant mediator between attachment anxiety and psychological distress. 4. Social self-efficacy would be a significant mediator between attachment anxiety and psychological distress. Research participants were 166 counselors, graduate students and mental health professionals. Instruments used were Experience in Close Relationship(Brennan et al., 1998), Self-Efficacy Scale(Sherer et al., 1982), Korean Version of the 20-Item Toronto Alexithymia Scale(Shin, Hyun kyun et al., 1997), and Outcome Questionnaire(Lambert et al., 1996). Structural equation analyses suggested that, instead of specialized significant parings of one mediator with one independent variables, both social self-efficacy and emotional awareness served as significant mediators for both attachment and attachment avoidance. A sobel test was used to estimate the significance of indirect effects. The result showed that social self-efficacy fully mediated the relationship between insecure attachment styles(anxiety and avoidance) and (a) psychological distress and (b) social support. Emotional awareness fully mediated the association between attachment avoidance and both psychological distress and social support. Implications for practice and further research are discussed.
