Gustav Mahler의 「Lieder und Gesange aus der Jugendzeit」에 대한 연구

Abstract

Gustav Mahler(1860∼1911)는 후기 낭만음악을 대표하는 Austria태생의 작곡가이다. 그는 Anton Bruckner(1824∼1896)의 전통적 대위법과 Richard Wagner(1813∼1883)의 반음계 주의에 영향을 받아 고전적인 기법과 진보적인 양식을 조화시켰으며, Richard Strauss(1864∼1949)와 함께 19세기 말 과도기의 독일가곡을 현대음악으로 이어주는 가교역할을 함으로써 후기 낭만음악에서 중요한 위치를 차지하고 있다. Mahler는 가곡에 주로 낭만시와 민요시를 채택하였으며 본 논문의 연구대상인 「Lieder und Gesa¨nge aus der Jugendzeit」에도 사랑과 자연을 주제로 한 낭만적이고 소박한 시를 사용하였다. 「Lieder und Gesa¨nge aus der Jugendzeit」는 14곡으로 된 작품모음집으로서 대단히 관현악적인 색채를 가진 Piano 반주로 되어 있다. 이 작품의 형식은 2부 형식이 주를 이루고 있고, 간결한 민요조의 선율이 특징적으로 사용되며 4도약과 순차진행의 복합적인 반복이 나타난다. Ⅰ.V의 기본적 화음과 비화성음이 번갈아 사용됨으로써 낭만적인 색채를 보여주고 있으며, 조성은 주로 3도와 4도의 전조관계를 갖는다. 14곡 중 박자의 변화가 나타나는 곡은 단지 2곡으로 안정적이고 단조로운 특징을 갖는다. Mahler는 「Lieder und Gesa¨nge aus der Jugendzeit」에서 후기 낭만주의 작곡가로서 사용할 수 있는 모호한 화성과 관현악적인 반주형태 등의 사용과 함께 극히 고전적이고 일률적인 박자와 화성, 선율선을 동시에 사용함으로 고전적 기법과 후기 낭만적인 기법을 적절히 조화시켜 절제와 균형이 돋보이는 심미적인 경향을 표출하였다.;Gustav Mahler (1860∼1911) was an Austrian composer who represented late Romantic Period music style. He harmonized a conservative technique and a progressive manner influenced by a traditional counterpoint of Anton Bruckner (1824∼1896) and a chromatic scale of Richard Wagner (1813∼1883) and played an important roll in Post-Romanticism by connecting the traditional German Art song to modern music in the late 1900's with Richard Strauss(1864∼1949). Mahler mainly selected romantic poems and folk poems in composing his songs and used romantic, folks poems based on love and nature in his 「Lieder und Gesa¨nge aus der Jugendzeit」, a subject of this research. Lieder und Gesa¨nge aus der Jugendzeit」, contents which consists of 14 pieces, has piano accompaniment which has instrumental color. As for the structure, Mahler often used melodies with a symmetric structure and melodic movements are skip as well as conjuct motion accompanied by a folk-1ike melodies. Mahler shows a romantic color by alternatively using a basic harmonies of Ⅰ, Ⅴ and nonharmonic notes, Tonality has a traditional relationship of 3rd and 4th degree. In only two of the 14 numbers, we can see a change of meter and the two numbers have a stable and simple characteristics. Mahler expresses an esthetic tendancy in which moderation and balance look to advantage, by simultaneously using a method of an ambiguous harmony and an orchestral accompaniment as well as very classical, uniform meter harmony and melodic line.
