동화일러스트레이션에서 극적효과를 위한 과장과 생략의 시각표현 연구

Abstract

아이에게 있어서 사람과의 첫 만남이 어머니이며 이는 아이에게 있어 가장 소중한 만남인 것처럼 책을 처음 접할 때에는 그림책과 첫 만남을 갖기 때문에 유아에게 있어서 매우 중요하다고 할 수 있다. 좋은 그림책이란 어린이가 그림을 보고 이야기를 잘 이해하고 그 안에서 풍부한 상상력을 펼칠 수 있어야 하며, 그러기 이전에 아이들이 그림책에 흥미를 가지고 책을 가까이 할 수 있도록 하는 것이 더 중요하다. 유아가 어떤 그림책에 흥미를 가지게 되느냐는 이야기의 내용도 중요하겠지만 그림이 어떻게 표현됐느냐에 따라서도 있을 것이다. 따라서 일러스트레이션의 다양한 표현에 따라 같은 이야기의 내용이더라도 아주 다른 그림책이 될 수 있으며 아이들이 지루해 하지 않고 시선을 사로잡을 수 있는 그림책이 될 수 있다. 그러한 표현으로 화면에 극적인 효과는 이야기 내용을 실감나게 전개하여 아이들이 그림책을 보면서 더욱 더 흥미롭게 이야기 속으로 빠져들 수 있도록 하게 할 것이다. 극적 효과의 표현은 상상력을 극대화 할 수 있으며 그림에 긴장 요소를 주어 주의력이 성인에 비해 결여된 유아에게 집중력을 줄 수 있을 것이다. 또한 스토리를 실감나고 흥미롭게 보여주는 효과도 기대 할 수 있을 것이다. 유아를 위한 그림책 일러스트레이션이기에 유아의 특성을 살펴봄으로써 유아의 시지각 특성을 일러스트레이션의 표현에도 반영하려 하였다. 유아의 인지· 시지각 특성을 살펴보고 그 특성이 반영된 유아그림의 표현특성도 살펴보았다. 다음으로 유아그림책에서의 극적효과의 표현을 살펴보기에 앞서 일반적으로 예술에서는 각 분야별로 극적 효과를 어떻게 표현하고 있는지에 대해 살펴보고 예술의 한 장르로서 유아그림책에서 극적 효과를 위한 표현은 어떻게 나타나는지 기존의 그림책을 통해서 살펴보았다. 위의 문헌 연구를 통해 예술에서의 극적 효과를 표현하는 방법으로 대비, 과장, 생략 등이 주로 많이 사용되어져 왔으며, 유아의 인지· 시지각 특성을 고려하여 그림책 일러스트레이션에서 화면의 극적 효과를 표현하는데 도출된 표현의 모티브로써 과장과 생략의 표현은 본 작품 연구에 적합한 표현 방법이라고 생각했다. 아직 글을 읽지 못하는 유아에게 그림을 보여주고 이야기를 진행할 때에 그림이 현실적이지 않고 애매모호하면 적당하지 않을 것으로 생각되지만 실재보다 과장, 변형되고 의미가 확연하게 드러나지 않는 그림이야 말로 다양한 해석과 상상을 하게 만드는 가능성을 제공하고 이야기를 이해하려는 노력을 고조시킬 수 있다. 마지막으로 작품의 표현 양식인 과장과 생략의 표현방법은 형태 변형의 한 방식으로 현대의 일러스트레이터들이 작가들 각자의 조형 해석에 따라 다양하고 독창적인 조형성을 추구하는데 많이 사용되고 있다. 이는 변형을 통해 작품의 의미를 명확히 하고 미적 효과를 높여주기 때문이다. 형태 변형 중에서 아이들이 크게 거부 반응을 일으키지 않으면서 형태를 왜곡시켜 내용 전달에 있어서 실감나고 극적으로 표현할 수 있는 방법으로써 과장과 생략의 표현은 중요한 부분은 과장· 확대시키고 중요하지 않은 부분은 축소하거나 생략해서 이해하기 쉽고 독특한 조형미를 만들어 낼 수 있다. 본 연구자는 위의 사실들을 근거로 삼아 유아의 시지각 특성인 단순화를 잘 반영하고 화면의 극적인 효과를 표현하는 시각적 방법으로 과장과 생략의 표현이 가장 적합하다고 생각하고 이를 중심으로 하여 작품에 반영하고자 하였다.;As the most precious and first encounter that a child can have is with his/her mother, the first picture book is very important for a child. A good picture book should be easy for children to understand the story; it should inspire children with full of imagination; but most importantly, the book should be interesting enough for children to take interest in it. Children can be interested in the story of the book but how the story was expressed is also important. Various types of illustrations can make the same story into very different picture books; those picture books can attract and keep the attentions from children. Various expressions give such dramatic effect as if the story came alive, which makes children more drawn into the excitement of the story in the books. Dramatic effect can maximize children's imagination and give a sense of tension to the story, which is useful to keep chidren's attention that lasts comparatively shorter than that of adults. It also can make the story more realistic and interesting. Since the subject matter is picture book illustrations for children's books, the study examined the characteristics of children to reflect the characterstics of children's visual sense and perception into illustrations. The study covers the characterstics of children's visual sense and perception and characteristics of children's pictures reflecting those characteristics. Prior to examining dramatic effect in children's picture books, dramatic expressions in various fields of art and dramatic expressions in children's picture books as an art genre were examined. Through the literature study above, contrast, exaggeration and omission have been mainly used for dramatic effect in art; considering the characterstics of children's visual sense and perception, exaggeration and omission, as motifs of expression for dramatic effect in a scene in an illustration, are emphasized in illustrations. Showing pictures that are not realistic enough but obscure to children who cannot read yet may not be a good idea; however such pictures exaggerated and altered from the reality and with vague meanings may provoke diverse interpretations, imaginations and understandings. Lastly, exaggeration and omission, which are expression styles in a work, are widely used to create diverse and unique forms through individual formative interpretations by today's illustrators as a type of form alteration. It is because alteration clarifies the meaning of the work and increases the aesthetic effect. To alter a form for realistic and dramatic expression without rejection from children, important parts can be exaggerated and enlarged while less important parts reduced and omitted to create a unique and beautiful form that is easy to understand. Based on the mentioned above, I consider exaggeration and omission as the most suitable for dramatic visual effect in a scene that reflects simplication, which is one of the characterstics of children's visual sense and perception and attempt to apply these to my work.
