Abstract
Bach의 Prelude and Fugue E^(b) Major(BWV 552)는 라이프찌히 시기의 prelude and fugue 중 맨 마지막에 쓰여진 작품으로 prelude는 A, B, A_(1), C, A_(2), B_(1), C_(1), A_(3)로 구성되는 ritornello 형식을 지녔으며 Fugue는 3개의 부분과 3개의 주제로 이루어져 있다. Grown up in the background of German traditional contrapuntal style, Johann Sebastian Bach(l685-1750) had incessantly accepted a new style of music of France and Italy. He was also influenced by the German Court Literature organ art from Dietrich Buxtehude(1637-1707) in the Northern Germany, and from Johann Pachelbel(1653-1706) in the Middle Germany. He brought to a successful completion in combination of all elements of Baroque music. He accomplished the German organ music in Baroque period, the golden age of organ music, and left some excellent organ preludes, fugues, toccatas, and others as well chorale-based works. In this theses, one can see some subject matters which are related to organ music, dividing his whole life ito five parts. The generality of his organ music through his occasional works, and especially the form and musical character of prelude and fugue which is one of his own important pattern in Leipzig period. While his prelude and fugue were composed independently during his early days, he harmonized them into one pattern as time passed by. Five Preludes and fugues maintain unity in terms of form and tonality and interrelationship among preludes. J. S. Bach's Prelude and Fugue E^(b)Major (BWV 552) were the last work of Leipzig preludes and Fugues. The Prelude represents the ritornello form (ABA_(1) CA_(2)B_(2)C_(1)A_(3)) and the Fugue contains three parts and three subjects. The principal section and the subordinate section of the Prelude has four-bar from two-bar main motive and the subordinate section usually has sequences. The first, second, and the third part of the Fugue each have independent themes. However from the second part, they harmonize with 1st subject, and the third part constitutes three subjects. Prelude and Fugue in E^(b)Major demonstrate a mature organization and the art of counterpoint of J. S. Bach's works.
