외국의 민요, 세속 가요, 오페라에서 나온 찬송가를 통해서 본 한국적 소재의 복음화에 대한 연구

Abstract

The hymn occupies a very important position in the Christian service. As discussed in the second chapter of this study, when investigated in the historical respect, we can see that hymns have played an important role in the Christian dogmatic education and missionary activities. A hymn is like a ceremonial document used in service. Therefore, its service musical function is the most important one. However, recent hymnbooks have mostly gathered musical pieces which can't be said as pure musics for service like gospel song that the educational and missionary functions of hymn have become important. Missionary music, by its peculiar aim to propagate to the public characteristically makes use of secular, popular music and is taking a concrete position as one of new church musics with its various aspects in accordance with the modern times. 「The Congregation Hymns」 popularly being used in Korea was published in 1983 by The Korean Hymn Public Assembly organized by the association of about 15 orders. This is in the broadest use than any other previous congregation hymnbooks in which total 558 pieces are collected. 96.6% of 「The Congregation Hymns」 are foreign songs, while those by Korean composers are about only nineteen. Among these, missionary music can be categorized as containing religious subjective lyrics into secular and popular melodies. Thus, some hyms based upon such secular, popular songs as folk songs, secular songs and opera melodies are gathered in the present 「Congregation Hymns」. But the latter that played a pioneer and leading role in popularizing and developing Western musics in Korea has begun to have conservative traits. It this respect, hymns peculiar to Korea that can lead Christians of this age are demanded. If pious and religious poems are added to the melodies of folk and popular songs every Korean people can easily follow, then such hyms will not only lead Korean congregations emotionally but also remain for a long time as a Korean classical music as one of worldwide congregation hymns. In this study, every hymn with religious lyric and secular song melody among 558 ones of 「The Congregation Hymns」 were investigated, and, based on those models, some hymns were actually made by the author to have religious lyrics on the melodies of folk, popular song or aria. And the author hopes that, with this study as a momentum, people can sing hymns more familiarly.;찬송가는 기독교 예배 의식에 있어 매우 중요한 위치를 차지한다. 본 논문의 Ⅱ 부분에서도 다루었듯이 역사적인 측면에서 고찰해보았을 때 찬송가가 기독교의 교리 교육과 포교 활동에 큰 역할을 담당하였음을 알 수 있다. 찬송가는 예배에 사용되는 예식서와 같은 것이다. 따라서 예배 음악적 기능이 가장 중요하다. 그러나 근래의 찬송가집에는 복음 성가와 같이 순수한 예배용 음악이 아닌 곡들이 대다수 수록되어 있어 찬송가의 예배 음악적 기능뿐만 아니라 교육적·선교적 기능도 중요하게 되었다. 선교 음악은 대중을 향한 선교적 목적에 따라 세속적 대중 음악의 사용을 그 특징으로 하며 새로운 교회 음악으로서 현대에 맞는 다양한 모습으로 날로 자리를 잡아가고 있다. 현재 한국에서 사용되고 있는 <회중 찬송가>는 약 15개 교단의 연합에 의해 구성된 한국찬송가공회에서 1983년에 발행한 것이다. 이것은 이전의 어느 <회중 찬송가>들보다도 광범위하게 사용되고 있으며 총 558곡이 수록되어 있다. <회중 찬송가>에 실려 있는 곡들은 96.9%가 외국곡이며 한국인에 의해 작곡된 것은 모두 19곡 정도밖에 되지 않는다. 선교 음악이 일반 예배 음악과 다른 점은 성서적이고 신앙적인 주관적 서정시를 세속적이고 대중적인 가락에 담는 것이라 하겠다. 이와 같이 세속적이고 대중적인 노래라 할 수 있는 민요나 세속 가요, 오페라 선율을 원곡으로 하고 있는 찬송가들이 지금의 <회중 찬송가>에 실려 있다. 그러나 서양 음악을 한국에 보급하고 발전시키는 데 선구적이고 주도적인 역할을 담당했던 회중 찬송은 차츰 시간이 흐르면서 현재에는 오히려 보수적인 경향을 띠게 되었다. 그러므로 우리 나라에도 이 시대 기독교인들을 주도해 나갈 수 있는 한국 고유의 찬송가가 필요한 것이다. 한국 대중이면 누구나가 부를 수 있는 민요, 대중, 가요, 가곡 등에 신앙적이며 종교적인 시를 붙인다면 그 찬송가는 당대의 한국 회중을 심정적으로 이끌 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 먼훗날 세계 회중 찬송에 한국적 고전으로 남아질 수도 있는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 세속적인 노래의 선율에 종교적 가사를 붙인 찬송가를 <회중 찬송가> 558곡 중에서 전부 뽑아 조사하였고 그것을 본보기로 한국적 소재를 가진 민요, 대중 가요, 가곡 등에 종교적인 가사를 붙여 찬송가로 만들어보았다. 이를 계기로 찬송을 보다 친숙하게 부를 수 있기를 바라는 마음이다.
