우수 여자 중학생이 생각하는 일(work)의 의미에 대한 질적 분석

Abstract

본 연구는 우수 여자 중학생들이 생각하는 일의 의미와 일의 의미의 형성과정을 알아보기 위한 연구이다. 일에 어떠한 의미와 가치를 부여하고 있고, 어떠한 태도를 지니고 있는지 살펴보는 것은 진로탐색 과정에서 가장 근본이 된다. 연구 대상은 우수 여자 중학생으로 선정하였다. 중학교 시기는 청소년기 발달과정 상 자아개념과 일의 개념이 형성되는 시기이고, 우수여성 인력의 사회 진출이 활발한 현대 사회를 고려하여 우수 여자 청소년을 대상으로 분석하였다. 구체적인 연구 문제는 다음과 같다. 1) 우수 여자 중학생들이 생각하는 일의 의미는 무엇인가? 2) 우수 여자 중학생들의 일의 의미는 어떻게 형성되는가? 이를 위해 학업 우수 여자 중학생들이 어떠한 경험을 통해 일의 의미를 형성했는지 질적 분석을 통해 알아보았다. 15명의 우수 여자 중학생들에게 면접을 실시한 후, 수집된 자료를 합의에 의한 질적 연구법(Consensual Qualitative Research, CQR)으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과를 연구 문제 별로 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 우수 여자 중학생들의 일의 의미는 복잡하고 다양하지만 몇 가지 공통점이 있다. 일에 대한 개념, 일을 하려는 이유, 일에 대한 정서, 학업능력과 일의 관련성, 여자와 일의 관련성에 일의 의미가 포함되어 있다. 대상자들은 일이란 뭔가를 하는 것이고, 사람이라면 당연히 해야 하는 것으로 생각하고 있고, 일에는 종류와 일을 시작하는 시기가 있으며, 노력을 기울여서 하는 것으로 개념화 했다. 일을 하는 이유로는 내적인 보상, 일을 통해 얻어지는 결과물, 사회적 관계 형성으로 나타났다. 또한 일에 대해 다양한 정서를 갖고 있는데, 긍정적, 부정적, 긍정적인 정서와 부정적인 정서가 함께 나타나는 경우로 나누어진다. 우수여성이라는 대상자들의 특성이 일을 하는데 어떤 관련성이 있는지도 알 수 있었다. 대상자들은 학업능력이 일을 하는 데 중요하지만, 흥미나 의지 등 또한 필요하다고 하였고, 현대 사회는 과거에 비해 성차별이 줄어들었다고 지각하고 있으며, 차별이 있더라도 극복할 수 있다고 생각하고 있다. 둘째, 우수 여자 중학생들은 다양한 경험을 통해 일의 의미를 형성하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 가족의 행동을 관찰하고, 가족들과의 대화를 통해, 대중매체와 학교에서의 여러 경험을 통해 일의 의미를 형성하고, 그밖에 주변 사람들이나 과외활동, 책의 영향을 받고 있으며, 개인 활동 경험을 하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 우수 여자 중학생들의 진로 탐색과정에서 근본이 되는 일의 의미와 일의 의미의 형성과정을 살펴볼 수 있는 질적 자료를 제시하였다. 연구 결과는 진로 상담, 진로 프로그램 제작, 진로 교육에 도움을 줄 수 있으며, 면접 대상자들이 일에 대한 의미를 생각해보는 시발점을 마련하고 일의 의미 및 가치관을 확립하는 데에 일조할 수 있을 것이다.;This study seeks to examine how gifted middle-school girls think about both the meaning of work and the formation process of the meaning. It is the most fundamental step in the process of searching the career that researchers comprehend the meaning and value given to the work. Gifted middle-school girls are selected as the object of research not only because the self-concept and conceptions about work are established at this time when considering the developmental process of adolescent period but also because a number of gifted women go out into the world actively in contemporary society. Specific topics are as follows. 1) What do gifted middle-school girls think of the meaning of work? 2) How is the meaning of work established in gifted middle-school girls? This study takes advantage of the qualitative research methodology in order to know what experiences gifted middle-school girls establish the meaning of work from. This study makes use of the CQR(Consensual Qualitative Research), which is applicable to the data collected through interviewing fifteen gifted middle-school girls. The results of study can be summarized according to topics as follows. Firstly, although the meanings of work in gifted middle-school girls are complicated and various, they have several common features. That is, the meaning of work includes such characteristics as the conceptions of work, the objective of work, the emotion about work, the relation between scholastic ability and work, and the relation between femininity and work. Interviewees not only thought that work is to do anything and what to do necessarily as human being, but also conceptualized that work has some kind of types and beginning point of time and is to make an effort. Besides, there are internal compensation, ultimate fruit of work, and the formation of social relationship. Moreover, various emotions about work are divided into positive, negative, and mixed situation of the two. In addition to these results, this study shows two conditions such as giftedness and female have something to do with work. Namely, interest and willingness as well as the scholastic ability are important for work and sexual discrimination which is decreasing but yet exists can be got over. Secondly, this study shows gifted middle-school girls establish the meaning of work through various experiences. They are influenced by such experiences as the observation of behaviors of family and communication, mass-communication, numeral experiences in school, people in connection with them, extracurricular activities, books, and individual activities. This study suggests qualitative data to analyze the meaning of work fundamental in the process of searching the career and the process of formation of the meaning. The results will be useful to career counseling, career program and career education and lay a cornerstone for consideration about the meaning of work in interviewees and be helpful in order to set up the meaning of work and a sense of values.
