This thesis is a study of integrated spirituality of Odilon Redon (1840-1916)'s whole works of art. Many studies of Odilon Redon were usually limited to his 'Noirs'. But this study concerned that his works were changed from black to color around 1890s. It was closely related to his life changes. And this study tried to explain his whole works from view points of his life, spiritual awareness and integrated spirituality. Many ideas influenced his spiritual quest. They are romanticism, positivism, progression of science, evolutionism, and scientific and mystical ideas of the unconscious. He thought that intuition and imagination of romanticism are not on the contrary to the reason and science of positivism. He integrated them all and made his unique spirituality. This spirituality can be made in the course of creating artistic works by integrating the unconscious to the conscious. He thought that whole human spiritual development could be acquired through integrating the unconscious to the conscious. From 1870s to late 1880s, under these influences, Redon made many charcoal drawings and lithographies, the 'Noirs' ; He drew the man of primitive origin and human spiritual evolution as the conscious could be developed. His concern to gloomy, lone childhood and painful origin made him focus to this subject. He wished he were free from his past through creative works. He thought that human spiritual development and evolution could be come true through combination of development of conscious reason and creative imagination of the unconscious in art. He used scientific studies to represent the importance of the conscious and thinking which could not be overwhelmed by the unconscious. In fact he used them as a tool of pulling out of unconscious imagination. He set the unconscious free by using charcoal and integrated it to the conscious through creative process. During his 'Noirs', he healed his painful past and sublimated the dark unconscious due to negative effect of past into foundation of his creation. Eventually he made his identity and unique art style. Marriage with Camille, becoming a father, and success as an artist made him stable. Even though deaths of his brother, sister and his first son, he felt opposite emotions in his mind after birth of second son Ari in 1889. These experiences made him to realize that the opposite emotions come together in his mind as well as in universe and then he studied his unconscious more actively. This was the influence of mysticism. In mysticism, human mind is same as small universe. Mystics tried to find the absolute truth in mind and universe. Under these influence, around 1890s, Redon consciously tried to find a archetypal unconscious. This effort produced works of religious and mythic subject. These works are made of pastel and color oil paintings. In 1897, selling of Peyrelebade, foundation of his artistic creation, was a historic event to Redon. It was a separation from his painful childhood too. As a result, around this time, his noirs works were expanded to color. Redon sought to find cosmic and mystic truth in mind and expressed them in his works through silence and meditation subject. It was an awareness that an archetypal force of the unconscious exists in all men as a source of creation. He incorporated the creative power of the unconscious into the conscious in creation through subjects of Apollo's chariot, Pegasus and Andromeda. These are metaphors of transcendant art. These mean that he expanded limit of his conscious by integrating universal and archetypal unconscious to his conscious. He sought pure abstraction and plastic effect of art and wanted to transmit spiritual through color. Redon got acquainted with the Nabis those who sought pure plasticity and refused representation. Redon never did pure abstract art. He remained in nature and inspired by nature. He got the unconscious creative power from nature. But he did art of the conscious. Through abstractive nature of line and color he endowed nature of spiritual meaning. In these works, he made spiritual nature which was psychic reality of his. So spirituality could be found even in matter. Like this, in his whole arts, he sought spirituality that integrated the creative unconscious into the conscious. So he made his unconscious to the conscious by creating arts and expressed idealistic arts. In this process, his unconscious integrated into the conscious and his spirit was expanded and evolved. This thesis gives new perspectives to Redon's art and evaluated him differently. That is, he was not an artist of vagueness and oddity but through his works, he sought spirituality and spiritual awareness and this spirituality healed his painful past memories. He got a total spirituality.;본 논문은 오딜롱 르동(Odilon Redon : 1840-1916)의 작품 세계 전반에 나타난 통합적 정신성(spirituality)에 관한 연구이다.
