18세기 Opera Seria와 Opera Buffa의 비교 분석

Abstract

'Drama in Musica(음악에 의한 극)'라고 하는 초창기 개념으로서의 오페라는 고대에서부터 다양한 형태로 존재하여왔다. 그러나 최초의 음악극이라고 하는 의의를 둘 수 있는 작품은 16세기말에야 시작되었다. 따라서 음악을 위시한 시, 연극, 미술, 무용 등의 요소로서 구성된 종합예술로서의 현대적인 개념의 오페라가 성립된 것도 그리 오래 전이 아니었다. 또한, 돈 많은 부유층이나 귀족들의 전유물이라고 여겨졌던 오페라는 1637년 이태리 베니스에 대중 오페라 하우스가 생기면서 많은 변화를 겪게 된다. 이 극장은 대중들이 돈을 지불하면 입장이 허가되는 공공 오페라 극장으로서 오페라 역사상 결정적인 단계를 마련해 준다. 그것은 비록 구경하는 자리가 달랐지만 귀족이건 평민이건 누구나 입장료만 내면 오페라를 관람할 수 있다는 것이었고, 오히려 그 때문에 상반된 관객들은 자기네들의 취향에 맞는 작품을 요구하게 되었고 이로부터 오페라의 다양한 형태가 생겨났다. 이처럼 초창기부터 관객의 반응이 형식에 곧바로 적용되어 17세기 중엽에 크게 두 가지 형태로 고정된 것이 바로 오페라 세리아(Opera Seria)와 오페라 부파(Opera Buffa)이다. 오페라 세리아는 귀족들의 전유물로서, 그들을 찬양하고 영웅화시키는 내용을 담고 있다. 극의 구성은 대부분 상투적이었고, 극적인 내용보다는 음악위주였다. 그러므로 오페라의 다양한 요소들보다는 아리아에 중점이 주어지는 오페라로서 훗날 글룩의 오페라 개혁의 대상이 되기도 한다. 19세기 낭만주의 이탈리아 오페라들의 전통을 마련해준 오페라 세리아와는 달리 대중적인 오페라 부파는 하층민들의 음악으로부터 출발하였다. 18세기초에 오페라 세리아의 막간극으로 연주되던 인터르메초(intermezzo)에서부터 발달하여 서민들을 위한 양식으로 가볍고 우화적인 주제, 대중들과 친숙한 장면, 단순한 연주형태를 가진다. 처음엔 음악과 극의 특징들이 서민적이어서 수준 낮은 음악극에 불과했고, 오페라인 들에게는 서커스와 같은 취급을 받았다. 그러나 대본과 음악에 혁신적인 변화를 감행하고, 시대적으로 귀족세력이 몰락하고 시민대혁명을 거치면서 꾸준히 중요성이 더해져서 18세기가 끝나기 전에 오페라 세리아와 동등한 위치로 발전하게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 18세기의 대표적인 오페라 장르였던 오페라 세리아와 오페라 부파를 비교 분석해 보았다. 우선, 두 장르의 기원과 배경에서부터 다양한 극적·음악적 특징들을 시대와 흐름에 맞게 알아보았다. 다음에는 오페라 세리아와 오페라 부파의 전체적인 특징들을 살펴본 후, 오페라 부파가 오페라 세리아에 대항해 생겨난 장르로 보고 두 장르를 개별적으로 비교 분석하며, 그들의 발전과정을 통해 두 장르가 오페라 역사상 어떠한 위치를 차지하는 지를 연구해 보고자 한다.;The first opera house appeared in Venice in 1637, half a century after the operas were started. The opera house was popular that anybody who could pay for the show was allowed to get in. The common people and the noble were seated separately, that made the operas more diverse for the audiences with different flavors. Those operas which the audience's response were well-applied were formed into two different categories around the mid-l7th century, which were Opera Seria and Opera Buffa. Opera Seria was a general style in Europe except France between the end of the 17th century and the middle of the 18th century. It based on the ancient histories or myths, and used to set up a tragic man as a main character. Most romantic operas in Italy in the 19th century were from the tradition of Opera Seria. Opera Seria mostly consisted of 3 acts, the music was solemn, and the play was conventional. It mattered the music more than a dramatic story. The most important part was Da Capo Aria, which always followed a recitativo so that It repeated the formation of 'recitativo-aria'. It became the subject of C.W.Gluck's opera reform since it mattered arias more than the various facts of the operas. The representative work of Opera Seria was by Mozart and Pietro Metastasio, a famous poet and also a scriptwriter. On the other hand, Opera Buffa was italian comic opera in the 18th century. comic characters appeared in opera in the mid-l7th century. Comedies were played between the scenes of Opera Seria which was somewhat boring. The comic operas were started and developed as Opera Buffa. The first Opera Buffa was by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, which was an intermezzo put in a Opera Seria. The characters in Opera Buffa were people in the real world, not the gods or heroes of the myths. The comic opera known as Opera Comique in France, Ballad Opera in England, and Singspiel in Germany prevailed the whole Europe. It made up an energetic form that was simple and natural, and harmonized with the emotions of the people. The noble forms were thrown away and it was sung in a language of the common people. Opera Buffa started from the repelling of the lower classes at first, but It became a popular genre through the French Revolution era, which the noblemen enjoyed too although they were the subject of the sarcasm.
