비행 청소년의 나르시시즘, 지배성, 공격성간의 관계

Abstract

This study was attempted to investigate the relationship among narcissistic propensity, dominance and hostility of the juvenile delinquents and the difference in narcissistic propensity, dominance, hostility. First, the relationship of narcissistic propensity, dominance and hostility was investigated by the correlation analysis. Second, the difference between the normal group and the juvenile delinquent group was examined by the discriminant analysis. Then, the mediating effect of the dominance was investigated in the relationship between the narcissistic propensity and the hostility by the path analysis. Before the main study, the factor analysis was done to 403 high school students in Seoul. Next, the major analysis was done based on the data of 200 high school students and 123 juvenile delinquents under the probation. Teenagers filled out a set of questionnaires consisted of the Narcissistic Personality Inventory developed by Raskin and Hall(1979) and the Dominance Scale developed by Sang Rho, Lee et al(1996) and the Hostility Scale developed by Buss and Durkee(1957). As a result of factor analysis, the Narcissistic Personality Inventory was consisted of four factors, 'Entitlement' 'Authority' 'Self-Admiration' 'Superiority' and the Hostility Scale was also consisted of four factors, 'Inner Hostility' 'Irritability' 'Negativism' 'Suspicion'. The results of the study are as follows ; 1. The correlation analyses on the narcissistic propensity, the dominance and hostility level suggested that positive association was significant on the almost all subfactors. Especially, the correlations on the three factors of the juvenile delinquents were much higher than those of the normal high school students. 2. The prediction subfactors which can differentiate the juvenile delinquents from the normal teenagers were as follows : 'Entitlement' 'Self-Admiration' 'Superiority' 'Inner Hostility' 'Negativism' 'Suspicion'. Particularly, 'Self-Admiration' and 'Superiority' were the most effective in discriminating the juvenile delinquents. 3. In path analysis, the mediating effect of the dominance in relationship between the narcissistic propensity and the hostility level was not found. For the normal female teenagers, 'Authority' affected 'Dominance' explaining 'Suspicion'. And for the male juvenile delinquents, 'Authority' influenced on 'Dominance' explaining 'Hostility' 'Irritability' 'Suspicion'. Through the result of the research, we find the fact that for the male juvenile delinquents, the higher narcissistic propensity one has, the more dominance and the more hostility one has.;본 연구는 일반 청소년과 비행 청소년의 나르시시즘, 지배성, 공격성간의 상관관계를 검증하고, 판별분석을 사용하여, 나르시시즘, 지배성, 공격성 중 어느 변인이 일반 청소년 집단과 비행 청소년 집단을 가장 잘 판별해내는지를 살펴보았고, 경로분석을 사용하여 지배성이 나르시시즘과 공격성의 관계를 매개하는지 검증하였다. 본 연구의 자료는 타당도 검증을 위한 예비실시 때에는 서울에 소재한 403명의 일반 고등학생을 대상으로 질문지를 통해 수집되었고, 본 검사 실시 때에는 서울에 소재한 200명의 일반 고등학생과 서울과 경기도에 소재한 123명의 보호 관찰대상 청소년을 대상으로 질문지를 통해 수집되었다. 나르시시즘 성향의 측정은 Raskin과 Hall(1979)이 개발한 Narcissistic Personality Inventory를 Raskin과 Terry(1989)가 요인분석해서 재구성한 문항을 사용, 요인분석을 실시하여, '특권의식' '권력' '자기찬미' '우월감' 의 4개의 하위요인으로 새로이 구성하여 실시하였으며, 지배성의 측정은 이상로, 변창진, 진위교(1996)가 중앙적성연구소에서 제작한 성격진단검사 중 지배성 측정 문항을 이용, 실시하였고, 공격성의 측정은 Buss와 Durkee(1957)의 Hostility Scale을 노안녕(1983)의 번안 척도와 비교, 수정한 문항을 사용, 요인분석을 실시하여 '적대감' '흥분성' '부정성' '의심' 의 4개의 하위 요인으로 재구성하여 실시했다. 자료의 처리는 상관분석, 판별분석, 경로분석을 사용하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 나르시시즘, 지배성, 공격성의 상관분석 결과, 일반 집단에서는 대부분의 하위요인들간의 높은 정적 상관관계를 보였고, 비행 집단에서는 전반적으로 일반 집단보다 나르시시즘과 지배성, 공격성간에 더 높은 정적 상관관계를 보였다. 2. 성별, 연령, 최종학력, 죄목, 보호관찰기간과 같은 피험자의 배경변인에 따라 나르시시즘, 지배성, 공격성의 평균과 표준편차를 구해보았다. 일반 여자 집단의 공격성이 일반 남자 집단보다 유의하게 높았고, 비행집단의 지배성은 죄목에 따라 유의미한 차이를 보였다. 3. 일반 집단과 비행 집단에서의 나르시시즘, 지배성, 공격성의 차이를 보기 위해 판별분석을 실시했다. 비행 집단을 유의하게 판별할 수 있는 예측변수는 '특권의식' '자기찬미' '우월감' '적대감' '부정성' '의심' 등이었고, 그 중 가장 효과적인 판별 변수는 나르시시즘의 하위요인인 '자기찬미'와 '우월감'으로 나타났다. 4. 지배성이 나르시시즘과 공격성간의 관계를 매개하는지 검증하기 위해 경로분석을 실시한 결과, 일반 집단, 비행 집단 모두에서 매개효과는 나타나지 않았다. 그러나 일반 여자 집단의 경우, 나르시시즘의 하위요인 중 '권력'이 지배성에 영향을 주어 공격성의 하위요인 중 '의심'을 설명하며, '권력'은 '의심'에 대한 직접 효과도 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 비행 남자 집단의 경우, 나르시시즘의 하위요인 중 '권력'은 지배성에 유의한 영향을 주며, 공격성의 하위요인 중 '적대감' '흥분성' '의심'을 설명할 수 있었다. 이상의 결과는 나르시시즘 성향과 지배성, 공격성간에 유의한 관계가 있다는 것을 보여주어, 현실과 맞지 않게 자신을 지나치게 높이 평가하는 것은 타인에 대한 지배성과 공격성을 조장하는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 그리고 특히 나르시시즘의 하위 요인 중 '자기찬미'와 '우월감'은 일반 집단과 비행 집단에서 가장 차이나는 요소로 드러났으며, 권력 욕구가 높고 타인에 대한 지배성이 높을수록 적대감, 흥분성, 의심 성향이 높다는 사실도 드러났다. 이는 청소년의 정확한 자기평가가 사회에 적응하는데 갖는 중요성을 재확인시켜주고 있는 것이다.
