유아용 CD-ROM Title의 현황 및 주제 분석

Abstract

Many kinds of computer softwares for young children have been developed since computer education started in Korea. The purpose of this study is to find out the statistics and offer the list. of young children's CD-ROM Titles. The following research questions were arranged： 1. What is the status of young children's CD-ROM Titles in Korea? 1-1. What is the status and characteristics of young children's CD-ROM Titles developed by Korean companies? 1-2. What is the status and characteristics of young children's CD-ROM Titles developed by foreign companies? 2. What is the subject of young children's CD-ROM Titles in Korea? 2-1. What is the subject of young children's CD-ROM Titles developed by Korean companies? 2-2. What is the subject of young children's CD-ROM Titles developed by foreign companies? 3. What is the trend of young children's CD-ROM Titles in Korea? 3-1. What is the trend of young children's CD-ROM Titles developed by Korean companies? 3-2. What is the trend of young children's CD-ROM Titles developed by foreign companies? This study analysis total 386 young children's CD-ROM Titles developed before 30th of September, 1997. The analysis standard to categorize the subject of young children's CD-ROM Titles, 15 categories designed at the 1997 Bologna New Media Prize by Buckleitner and his colleagues were partly modified by the researcher. Based on the analysis standard, the frequency and percentage were computed to all collected young children's CD-ROM Titles. The results of this study are as follows： First, there were total 386 young children's CD-ROM Titles in Korea, 207 were developed by Korean company and 179 were developed by foreign company. 207 Korean companies' CD-ROM Title were developed by 61 companies including LG Soft(25 titles), DooSan Dong-A(15 titles), WoongJin Media(l4 titles), and SeaGuang DataTech(l3 titles). In terms of the price, most(97.59%) of them were under fifty thousand won(￦50000), and among those even 33.82% were under twenty thousand won(￦20000). In terms of the operating system, most(99.04%) of them were available with windows program. 179 foreign companies' CD-ROM Title were developed by 43 companies including Broderbund Software(24 titles), Soft Key International(22 titles), The Learning Company(l9 titles), and Edmark Corporation(l1 titles). In terms of the price, half(52.51%) of them were between twenty thousand(￦20000) and fifty thousand won(￦50000), 13.97% were under twenty thousand won(￦20000), and 33.52% were over fifty thousand(￦50000). In terms of the operating system, 77.09% were available with both windows and macintosh program. Second, the electronic book(86 titles) were the subject with most many titles, coming by foreign language(83 titles) and reading/writing(59 titles). Also, there were about 10% of science and math titles, but creativity and logic/problem solving titles were lacking with only about 3∼4%. Compared to the fact that, young children's CD-ROM Title developed by Korean companies were inclined to foreign language, specially English learning titles, young children's CD-ROM Title developed by foreign companies were comparatively well distributed to various subject such as creativity and logic/problem solving titles. Third, many of electronic book titles and reading/writing titles are being developed since 1993, and supported by the interest of integrated education many of multidisciplinary titles are being developed since 1994. In case of Korean company, foreign language, specially English learning titles are being developed nearly 30% every year since 1994. Also creativity and logic/problem solving titles, which are not enough yet, have started to being developed since 1996. But in case of foreign company, creativity and logic/problem solving titles have started to being developed since 1993.;우리나라에서 유아 컴퓨터 교육이 시작된 이후로 다양한 종류의 유아교육용 컴퓨터 소프트웨어들이 개발·보급되고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 국내 시장에서 발견되는 유아교육용 컴퓨터 소프트웨어 중에서, 유아용 CD-ROM Title의 현황을 조사하여 목록을 제시하고, 그 주제와 개발경향성을 알아보고자 하는 데 있다. 이와 같은 연구목적에 따라 다음과 같은 연구문제를 설정하였다. 1. 유아용 CD-ROM Title의 현황은 어떠한가? 1-1. 국내 개발사의 유아용 CD-ROM Title 현황 및 특징은 어떠한가? 1-2. 외국 개발사의 유아용 CD-ROM Title 현황 및 특징은 어떠한가? 2. 유아용 CD-ROM Title의 주제는 어떠한가? 2-1. 국내 개발사의 유아용 CD-ROM Title 주제는 어떠한가? 2-2. 외국 개발사의 유아용 CD-ROM Title 주제는 어떠한가? 3. 유아용 CD-ROM Title의 연도별 개발경향은 어떠한가? 3-1. 국내 개발사의 유아용 CD-ROM Title 개발경향은 어떠한가? 3-2. 외국 개발사의 유아용 CD-ROM Title 개발경향은 어떠한가? 본 연구의 분석대상은 국내에서 1997년 9월 30일 이전에 출시된 유아용 CD-ROM Title 386개를 대상으로 하였다. 유아용 CD-ROM Title의 주제별 분석기준은 Buckleitner와 그의 동료들이 1997년 볼로냐 뉴 미디어 상(The Bologna New Media Prize)에서 수상기준으로 삼았던 15개 기준을 보완하여 사용하였다. 수집된 유아교육용 CD-ROM Title은 분석기준에 의하여 모두 빈도와 백분율로 처리되었다. 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 국내 유아용 CD-ROM Title 386개 중에서 국내 개발사의 CD-ROM Title은 207개, 외국 개발사의 CD-ROM Title은 179개였다. 국내 개발사의 유아용 CD-ROM Title 207개는 LG소프트(25개), 두산동아(15개), 웅진미디어(14개), 세광데이타테크(13개) 등 61개 개발사에서 개발되었다. 가격대는 거의 대부분(99.04%)이 5만원 미만이었고, 그 중 2만원 미만인 것도 33.82%가 있었다. OS(Operating System) 상태는 거의 대부분(97.59%) 원도우스 상태에서 사용 할 수 있는 것이었다. 외국 개발사의 유아용 CD-ROM Title 179개는 Broderbund Software(24개), Soft Key International(22개), The Learning Company(19개), Edmark Corporation(11개) 등 43개 개발사에서 개발되었다. 가격대는 절반정도(52.51%)가 2만원 이상∼5만원 미만이었고, 2만원 미만인 것은 13.97%, 5만원 이상인 것은 33.52%가 있었다. OS 상태는 원도우스와 맥킨토시 겸용인 것이 77.09%로 가장 많았다. 둘째, 국내 유아용 CD-ROM Title의 주제는 전자도서 Title(86개)이 가장 많고, 그 다음으로 외국어학습을 위한 Title(83개)과 읽기쓰기 학습을 위한 Title(59개) 순으로 많았다. 그밖에도 과학 및 수학 등 학과목 위주의 Title은 약 10%정도씩 있었으나, 창의성과 논리적 문제해결력을 길러주는 Title은 약 3∼4%정도로 부족하였다. 국내 개발사의 유아용 CD-ROM Title 주제가 외국어학습, 특히 영어학습을 위한 Title에 많이 치중되어 있는 반면에, 외국 개발사의 유아용 CD-ROM Title 주제는 창의적이고 논리적인 사고력을 향상시켜 줄 수 있는 Title이 상대적으로 많은 등 비교적 다양하였다. 셋째, 유아용 CD-ROM Title의 연도별 개발경향은 국내 개발사와 외국 개발사 모두 전자도서와 읽기쓰기 Title이 1993년부터 계속 많이 개발되고 있으며, 1994년 이후부터는 통합교육에 대한 관심으로 다각적 구성물 Title이 많이 개발되고 있다. 국내 개발사의 경우에는 1994년부터 지금까지 매년 전체의 약 30%정도를 외국어학습, 특히 영어학습용 Title 개발에 치중하는 경향성을 볼 수 있었다. 그리고 창의성과 논리적 문제해결력 향상을 위한 Title의 개발은 1996년부터 조금씩 이루어지고 있으나, 아직은 부족한 편이다. 반면에 외국 개발사의 경우에는 일찍이 1993년 이후부터 창의성과 논리적 문제해결력 향상을 위한 Title이 개발되고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
