Abstract
본 연구는 1886년 작곡된 J. Brahms의 Cello Sonata in F Major Op. 99를 분석 연구한 것이다. The purpose of this study is to analyze cello sonata composed by Johannes Brahms, which is Sonata in F Major, Op. 99. Johannes Brahms is a German ‘Romantic’ composer in the nineteenth century. This sonata in F Major has been characterized as one of the examplary works that shows Brahms's mastery touches of Romantic spirits and techniques. This sonata is composed of four movements, in the form of traditional classical sonata. However, it has some liberal and advanced nuances in some aspects. Regarding the key schemes, the development section in the first movement modulates to a chromatic key rather than a dominant one. The recapitulation of the last movement does not return to the original key unlike the conventional sonata form. In particular, the principal organic idea of connecting whole movements is based on the idea of 'motto theme'. Musical elements in this sonata such as melodies, harmonies, rhythm and meter also display Brahms's idiomatic variety of the Romantic musical style. Frequent uses of wide leaps in the melodies, emphasized dotted rhythms, and Hemiola reveal the ‘Romantic’ spirit in this distinguished work of art.
