Edgard Vare<se의 작곡기법 연구

Abstract

본 논문에서는 20세기 전위음악의 선구자로서 일컬어지고 있는 에드가 바레즈(Edgard Vares`e : 1883∼1965)의 작곡기법을 알아보았다. 그의 작품구성의 핵심적인 방법은 수정화(Crystalization) 작법이었는데 이러한 그의 작품규명을 위해서 그의 대표작중의 하나인 'Hyperprism'을 선택하여 선율, 화성, 리듬, 강약법을 중심으로 분석해 보았다. 그 결과 그는 선율과 화성면에 있어서 정적인 형태, 즉 다양하게 변화하고 움직이는 성질의 것이 아니라, 단조롭고 또한 농축된 지속음에 의한 수법을 사용하고 있음이 발견되었다. 즉 어떠한 주선율과 화음구조, 그리고 리듬형태를 정하여 그 안에서 장식적인 혹은 음정적인 약간의 변화만을 가하고 있었다. 선율에 있어서는 하나의 중심음을 선택하여 그 음을 반복하고 있었으며 이것에 변화를 주기 위해서 주로 단2도에 의한 움직임을 보여 주었다. 또한 화성에 있어서도 마찬가지의 음정관계인 단2도로 구성된 화성을 사용하였는데 이러한 의도적인 단조로움은 그의 수정화 작법에서 본질적이고 순수한 상태의 상징이 된다. 이러한 상징들을 결합시킴으로써 외적인 현상, 즉 수정이라는 하나의 물체를 만들어 내는데 이러한 작업을 위한 방법으로 그는 리듬과 박자의 다양한 변화, 그리고 세분된 강약법을 시도하였다. 그렇게 함으로써, 그 음악에 대해, '수정'의 외부형상처럼 무한한 상상력의 가능성을 우리에게 제공하여 주었던 것이다. 이러한 모든것들에 의해 종합적으로 울려진 불협화적이고 날카로운 음향으로 그는 1950년대 이후의 전자음악을 예고하였다. 또한 사이렌(Siren)과 같은 독특한 음향을 사용하여 음악적 재료의 한계를 넓힘으로써 20세기 후반의 음악적인 여러가지 가능성을 시사해 주었으며, 동시에 그의 실험적인 작업과 독창적인 기법으로 음악의 흐름속에 또 하나의 대(帶)를 형성하였던 20세기 음악의 개척자였다.;Edgard Vare｀se(1883-1965) has been recognized as a pioneer of 20th century Avant-Garde. The main technique of his composition is "Crystalization". The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the compositional technique of Edgard Vare｀se. His compositional technique of melody, harmony, rhythm and dynamics i s web1 represented in 'Hyperprism'. It is said that he has developed a static form in melody and harmony. It is not changeable or dynamics in various forms. But. his technique is to use continuous sounds that is monotonous and dense. In other words, it is to choose a main melody, a chordal structure and a rhythmic form, and in this, make little ornamental or intervalic transformation. In melody, he choose a pivot tone and repeated this tone, and made little movement in minor seconds. And the produced harmony in minor seconds which had the sane interval. This intentional monotony is a symbol of his crystalization that is essential and genuine. He combined these symbols and made a external form, that is a crystal. For this work, he tried to use rhythm, various meters and subdivided dynamics. As a crystal makes various colors by the light, his musical form increased our imaginative abilities for music and, he made dissonant and sharp sounds. His music has foreshadowed the electronic music of the 1950's. Besides the invented a new instrument, the 'siren,' and showed us possibility of various techniques of 20th century music. His experimental works and unique techniques have been credited with making a contribution to 20th century music.
