Charles Ives의 오르간 음악에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 Charles Ives(1874-1954)의 "Variations on America"의 작품 분석을 통해 20세기 다양한 미국 오르간 음악 기법에 나타난 그의 음악적 특징을 고찰하여 독창적이고, 실험적인 C. Ives의 오르간 음악을 이해하는데 목적이 있다. 미국에서 태어난 C. Ives는 유럽음악의 모방에서 벗어난 순수한 미국음악을 창시하였고 후대의 미국 작곡가들에게 그들이 나아가야 할 길을 제시하였다. 본 논문에서는 20세기 미국오르간 음악의 형식을 6가지 기법으로 나누어 알아보고 음악의 전체적 특징과 오르간 작품을 소개하며 그의 대표적인 오르간곡 "Variations on America"를 형식과 선율구조적 측면에서 알아보았다. 이곡의 특징을 살펴보면 영국국가로 잘 알려진 선율을 인용하여 복조성과 수직적인 형태에서의 증감 4도, 5도의 음정 사용등 전통에서 벗어난 자유롭고 실험적인 기법과 다양한 리듬, Jazz적인 기법등 20세기 작곡기법이 나타나 있다. 전체작품에서 초기의 작품에 속하는 이곡은 일관된 형식에 얽매이지 않고 다양함이 함께 어우러져 있는 C. Ives만의 독특하고 진보적인 음악세계를 보여준다.;This thesis aims at understanding the organ music of Charles Ives, analyzing his work "Variations on America". His unique and experimental approach is surveyed. His musical characteristics showing him to be included in, one of the six styles of the twentieth century American organ world, are studied. Born in the United States, Ives, one of the most unique and talented musicians, created his own special American style music, evading the imitation of European music. Organ music of the American 20th century is investigated and presented. General characteristics of Ives' music and his organ works are introduced. "Variations on America", his representative organ work, is analyzed and studied as to form and melodic characteristics. Characteristics of 20th century technique employed in this work are : bitonality, frequently changing chords, with the melody of a well - known English hymns added, augmented and diminished chords in vertical form, free, nontraditional and experimental techniques, varied rhythm and jazz techniques using 'lad libitum" are used. Consequently, "Variations on America", Ives' early work, shows his unique and progressive style in great variety, not following the traditional forms.
