Abstract
Cello Sonata in a minor op.36을 분석 고찰한 것이다. The purpose of this thesis is to study Cello Sonata in a minor, Op 36 by Edvard Grieg in terms of form, melody and harmony. Cello Sonata in a minor, Op 36 is the only solo sonata by Grieg, and along with his three violin sonatas, widely loved by many players. The form of Cello Sonata in a minor, Op 36 consists of three movements, and in general, conforms to the classical sonata form. The first and the third movements are of the sonata form in that the development and the tonality of two themes in these two movements, respectively, are in accordance with the classical tradition. On the other hand, the second movement is of free form, presenting two themes alternately five times. In all the three movements, two major themes, respectively, are contrasted, paralleled, mixed, or repeated. The melody and harmony of Cello Sonata in a minor, Op 36 is simple and lyric. Also the linear progress along several sounds, and rhythmic repetitions forming harmonic lines are characteristic of Grieg.
