포르노 재현물에 대한 여성의 경험에 관한 연구

Abstract

This paper starts with the idea that the sexual culture is gendered in the patriarchal society and a woman's experience of .pornography is different from man's within the gendered sexual culture. With the current opinion that pornography is not related to 'gender', a woman's experience of pornography is focused in defending pornography. From this point of view, women's sexuality and specific experience of pornography have not been discussed. The aim of this paper is to illuminate how women specifically experience pornography in the male-centered porno-culture. For this study I interviewed 6 men and 12 women in 20's and 30's. This study has four questions: first, how do porno-culture become male culture? Second, how do this male-centered porno-culture condition women's view of pornography? Third, how do women perceive the sexuality represented by pornography and how is pornography related to women's sexual desire? Finally, what do pornography have women identified as? This research has led to the following conclusions. Pornography as men's exclusive possession don't imply directly that the consumption of pornography results from male's instinctive and impulsivc sexuality. It has cultural process that men have their own networks for the circulation and consumption of pornography. Also pornography produces cultural meanings in that it satisfies boy's curiosities about sex and female body and approves boys 'maleness'. This gendered porno-culture defines women's view of pornography. Although women don't regard viewing the pornography as a taboo, they come in contact with and view pornography mainly through men. Because they are not able or willing to get it themselves. But married women accept pornography naturally. On the other hand, single women keep away from pornography because pornography don't offer them 'feminine' sexual knowledge and desire. The women interviewed in this study connect the sexuality of pornography to 'just sex', 'sex without love' and 'dirty and indecent sex'. Because this reflects the existing women's idea of sex relations, pornography don't dismantle women's conception of sexuality relating sex to love. Even when women have their sexual desire, they have it in the context of loving. So pornography don't produce and meet women's sexual desire itself. But pornography might be the useful and meaningful text for women in that it presents the knowledge of male's sexual desires. While pornogaphy is opposed to women's sexual desire, women admit pornography for the purpose of sexual gratification with men, their husbands. And pornography plays a role in identifying women as 'individual women', 'parents' and 'adults'. According to the women's interpretation of sexuality represented by pornography, marriage and age, women have these various attitudes toward pornography. Although pornograpliy subordinates women' s sexual desire to men's, these women's attitudes make pornography problem other's issue or problem rather than women's.;본 연구는 성차별적 사회에서 성문화는 성별화되어 있고 성별화된 성문화 속에서 포르노그라피가 여성에겐 함의하는 바가 남성과는 다르다는 데서 출발한다. 포르노그라피를 성별관계의 문제로 볼 수 없다는 최근의 논의의 등장은 포르노에 대한 여성의 경험을 다루면서, 포르노그라피가 여성에게 성해방과 쾌락의 복원을 가져다 줄 것이라고 주장하며 여성을 남성과 동등한 인식과 경험을 갖는 성적 주체로 간주하고 있다. 이러한 맥락에서 여성들의 성이나 포르노 재현물에 대한 경험 혹은 관계맺는 방식이 무엇인지에 대한 논의는 제기되고 있지 않다. 따라서 이 글은 포르노그라피에 대한 일반적, 체계적 분석이라기 보다는 남성중심적인 포르노문화 안으로 여성이 포섭되어 들어가는 과정에서 여성들의 포르노 재현물에 대한 경험의 특수성이 어떠한가를 보기 위한 것이다. 즉 본 논문은 여성들이 포르노문화 안으로 포섭되는 과정을 밝히고 이것이 여성들의 성적 욕망과 성적 실천에 어떠한 함의를 갖는지를 밝히는데 초점이 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 문제제기에서 출발하여 다음의 연구문제를 갖는다. 첫째, 포르노 배경문화가 어떻게 남성문화의 일부로 편입되어 있는가? 둘째, 이러한 남성중심적인 포르노문화가 포르노그라피를 접하는 여성의 경험을 어떻게 제한하고 있는가? 셋째, 여성들은 포르노의 성에 대해 어떻게 인식하고 있으며, 여성의 성적 욕망에 포르노가 함의하고 있는 바는 무엇인가? 넷째, 여성은 포르노그라피에 대해 어떠한 입장을 가지는가, 즉 포르노그라피가 여성을 어떻게 정체화시키고 있는가? 20-30대의 남성과 여성을 심층면접한 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 포르노문화는 남성문화의 일부로서 존재한다. 포르노그라피가 남성들의 전유물이라는 사실은 남성들의 본능적, 충동적 성에 기인하는 것이 아니다. 그것은 포르노그라피의 적극적 유통을 위한 남성들의 관계망 속에서 구축되는 문화적 과정을 가지고 있다. 포르노그라피는 성과 여성의 몸에 대한 호기심을 충족하는 성의 사회화와 '남성임'을 과시하고 승인하는 문화적 의미를 생산하고 있다. 둘째, 여성들의 포르노보기는 성별화된 포르노문화 안에서 이루어진다. 포르노그라피는 여성들에게도 더이상 금기시되는 것으로 인식되지는 않지만, 포르노를 구할 수 없는 상황 속에서 여성들은 남성들을 통해서 보게 되는 경우가 많다. 여성들이 포르노그라피를 받아들이는 것은 결혼한 여성의 경우 자연스러운 일로 여겨진다. 포르노를 통한 성에 관한 앎과 욕망은 여성다운 방식이 아닌 것으로 여겨지기 때문에 미혼인 여성에게 포르노는 거리를 두어야 하는 것으로 여겨진다. 셋째, 여성들은 포르노의 성을 섹스 그 자체뿐인 것, 애정 없는 성, 더러운 성과 연결시킨다. 이러한 인식은 여성들이 가지고 있는 기존의 성관념을 그대로 반영한 것으로, 성과 사랑을 연결시키는 여성들의 성의식을 깨뜨리지 않는다. 따라서 포르노는 여성들의 욕망의 대상이 아니다. 여성들은 성적 욕망을 가진다고 할 때도 구체적 대상과의 사랑을 경험하는 것과 분리하지 않는다. 포르노 자체는 이러한 사랑의 맥락을 가지고 있지 않기 때문에, 여성의 성적 욕망은 포르노와의 일대일 관계에서 생산, 해소, 구체화되지 않는다. 그러나 포르노는 남성들의 성적 욕망에 관한 지식을 제공한다는 점에서 여성들에게도 유의미한 텍스트가 되고 있기도 하다. 또한 결혼한 여성의 경우 자신의 성적 욕망과는 충돌되지만 남성과의 성생활과 성적 만족을 위해 포르노의 성애를 받아들이고 있다. 넷째, 포르노그라피는 여성을 '개인 여성', '부모', '성인'으로 정체화시키는 역할을 하고 있다. 포르노의 성에 대한 인식, 결혼 유무, 나이는 이들이 포르노에 대해 다양한 입장을 갖게 되는 요인이다. 여성주의가 성의 대상화, 상품화라는 맥락에서 포르노그라피를 여성의 문제로 정치화하고자 하지만, 이러한 포르노에 대한 여성들의 입장은 포르노그라피가 여성의 문제가 아닌 타자의 문제가 되고 있음을 보여준다. 이렇게 여성들의 삶의 맥락 안으로 들어오고 있는 포르노그라피는 성별화된 성문화의 특성 위에서 경험을 매개하고 있다. 남성의 성문화로서의 포르노그라피는 여성들이 그 안에 포섭되어 들어갈 때 남성들과의 관계 속에서 수동적인 허용의 태도를 보이고 있음을 보여준다. 그러므로 포르노그라피는 여성 자신의 성적 욕망과 직접적으로 관계맺기 보다는 남성들의 성적 욕망에 봉사하는 과정에서 여성들을 끌어들이고 있다고 보아야 한다.
