R. Schumann의 Impromptus on a Theme by Clara Wieck, Op.5에 관한 연구

Abstract

슈만(Robert Schumann, 1810-1856)은 멘델스존(Felix Mendelssohn, 1809-1847), 브람스(Johannes Brahms, 1833-1897)와 함께 낭만주의 음악의 대표적인 작곡가로 피아노 작품을 비롯하여 가곡, 관현악곡 등의 많은 작품을 남겼으며, 특히 피아노 음악에 있어서 뛰어난 독창성을 발휘하고 있다. 슈만의 피아노 작품은 대부분이 19세기에 애용되던 쟝르인 성격 소곡(Character Piece) 양식으로 되어 있으며, 많은 곡에서 문학 작품과의 연관성과 가상적인 인물이나 상황에 대한 암시를 통한 슈만 자신의 내면적인 요소를 찾아볼 수 있다. 또한 각국의 노래나 다른 사람들의 작품에서 선율을 인용하였고, 바하의 영향을 받아 대위법적인 기법을 작품에 사용하고 있다. 본 논문에서 연구하고자 하는 《클라라 비크 주제에 의한 즉흥곡(Impromptus on a Theme by Clara Wieck, Op. 5)》에서도 위와 같은 슈만의 피아노 작품에 있어서의 몇 가지 특징들이 나타난다. 슈만의 《클라라 비크 주제에 의한 즉흥곡(Impromptus on a Theme by Clara Wieck, Op. 5)》은 성격 소곡의 일종인 즉흥곡이라는 표제를 지니며 형식면에서는 변주곡 형식을 지닌다. 이 곡은 전주와 주제 그리고 10개의 변주로 되어있는데 주제는 클라라의 《로만스(Romance, Op, 3)》 에서 가져와 곡 전반에 걸쳐 진행하였고, 전주는 이 주제를 바탕으로 구성되었다. 전주는 크게 3개의 Ground Bass로 이루어져 있으며, 이것은 이 곡의 화성을 정하는 역할을 하면서 Bass Line을 구성한다. 선율은 각 변주마다 주제와 그 주요음들의 모방, 확대, 축소, 동형진행 등이 사용되었으며, Bass는 전주의 3개의 Ground Bass a, b, c를 응용하여 다양하게 전개시켰다. 화성은 전주에서 사용된 화성이 주를 이루고, 전통적인 3화음과 7화음을 소재로 하며 3도, 4도 관계의 근음 진행, Secondary 화음의 수식된 진행, 반음계 진행이 나타난다. 박자는 2개의 변주(Var. 2, Var. 4)에서 복합 박자를 이용하는데 이것은 이 곡의 화성이나 조성의 단조로움을 극복하게 해준다. 이상과 같이 슈만의 《클라라 비크 주제에 의한 즉흥곡(Impromptus on a Theme by Clara Wieck, Op. 5)》의 전주와 10개의 변주는 각 부분이 다양한 전개 방식으로 대조를 이루면서, 클라라의 주제를 중심으로, 동일한 Bass Line을 이용하는 작곡기법으로 통일성을 유지하고 있다.;Robert Schumann (1810-1856), who left many splendid works such as Lieder, orchestral works and especially unique piano works, is a representative of the romantic era, a long with Mendelssohn (1809-1847) and Brahms (1833-1897). His piano works show both the literary relations of a certain idea and his inner life through allusions to imaginary objects and situations. He borrowed melodies from foreign countries and other composers. Under the influence of J. S. Bach, he used contrapuntal techniques. ≪Impromptus on a Theme by Clara Wieck, Op. 5≫ which is studied in this thesis, shows some of these characteristics. Schumann's ≪Impromptus on a Theme by Clara Wieck≫ is called ˝impromptu˝ which is a kind of character piece, but it is composed in variation form. It comprises an introduction, theme, and ten variations. The theme from Clara's ≪Romance, Op. 3≫ is used throughout the work. The introduction is based on this theme, and consists of three ground basses on which the harmony is built up. In each variation, the melody uses imitation, augmentation, diminution., sequence of themes and the principal tone. The bass is developed variously by applying ground basses a, b and c. The harmony is almost all derived from the harmony of the introduction, and consists of triads, 7th chords, root progression of 3rds and 4ths, secondary chord progressions and chromatical progressions. The meter is a polymeter in two variations (var. 2, var. 4) which helps to overcome monotony of harmony and tonality. As mentioned above, the introduction and ten variations of Schumann's ≪Impromptus on a Theme by Clara Wieck≫ form contrasts in diverse ways in the development process and maintains the unity of compositional techniques with the same bass line centering around Clara's theme.
