Abstract
Sergei Prokofiev, one of the composer representing the twentieth century and remarkable pianist, was involved in composing in almost all areas of music including, opera, symphony, concerto, ballets, piano sonata arid music for films. The beginning of the twentieth century, when Prokofiev had spent the last years of his life, soviet had a political system of communism and took sanctions against the composing activities of Prokofiev by highly criticizing western twelve-tone technique and atonality as a formalism and Instead, established socialistic realism. Prokofiev, also was criticized as a formalist and some of his work were prohibited from public performances. The musical features of his work are the coordination between Neoclassicism and his own unique modern musical language. The neoclassical aspect can be found in the maintenance of use of classical representation and tonality while the latter is seen in the lines of composing which he himself revealed. His lines of composing comprise of five elements and these are classical factors, innovations, toccata, lyricism and grotesqueness. These elements are felt throughout bs entire work and also in piano sonata No. 6. This piece has the structure of fow mov. sonata and in the first mov. sonata form was used while rondo form was applied in the fourth mov. Polytonality, multi- tonality, sudden modulation and disharmonized chords appear in wide variety but structual frame has been maintained. The unity is shown by the use of cyclic structures where the theme of first mov: reappears in the last mov. and lyrical rhythm and Prokofiev's humor is also seen.
