M. 푸꼬(Foucault)의 지식과 권력이론에 대한 분석적 연구

Abstract

M. 푸꼬는 현대사회 고도의 기술관료적 통제와 감시의 메카니즘을 독특한 방법론과 문제영역으로 접근하고 있다. 그는 광기, 질병, 범죄, 성 등 사회의 주변집단에 초점을 맞춰 이들을 통제하는 제도의 탄생과 기능을 중심으로 지식과 지식의 제도화 및 거기에서 행사되는 권력의 문제를 연구하였으며 특히, 과학이라는 합리화된 지식이 실제에 있어 권력의 조직화와 체계화에 어떻게 공헌하는지를 구명하고 있다. 한편 푸꼬에 있어 지역화된 연구 즉, 광기, 질병, 범죄, 성에 행사되는 권력은 국가나 중앙집권 국가기구와 동일시 되는 권력이라기보다 인간신체를 복종시스템으로 끌어들이는 지식을 구하고 신체에 대한 테크놀러지를 신장시키는 미세한 존재방식의 권력이다. 본 논문은 푸꼬의 이상의 논의를 분석적으로 고찰하고자 하며, 특별히 그의 권력에 대한 정밀분석을 자신의〈미시물리학적 권력〉이라는 분석전략으로 재구성하여 권력과 지식 (power-knowledge)의 관계를 재인식 하고자 한다. 이러한 지식과 제도화 및 거기에서 행사되는 권력의 문제를 푸꼬는 담론(discourse)이라는 실천으로서의 언어 즉, 말을 분석도구로 삼아 지식과 권력관계의 설명이 범하게 되는 추상성을 극복하고 사회 및 인간행위의 의미차원과 구조차원을 모두 흡수하여 사회현상의 실재적 분석을 가능하게 하였다. 담론을 분석함으로써 푸꼬는 암시적 의미를 찾아내고자 하는 것이 아니라 담론체제 즉 진술들이 행해지는 데에서의 특유한 권력의 효과를 파악하고자 하며 그에 따라 담론의 생산을 사회가 통제, 선별, 조직, 재분배하는 절차 혹은 방식들에 고고학(archaeology)과 계보학(genealogy)이라는 독특한 방법으로 접근한다. 본 논문은 이상의 방법론과 미시물리학적 권력이라는 분석전략을 검토하여 이를 중심으로 푸꼬의 구체적 연구인 광기, 질병, 범죄, 성에 대해 분석적으로 고찰하였다. 즉, 광기, 질병, 범죄, 성 등이 어떻게 일련의 담론을 통해 규정되고 그 담론의 권위를 행사하는 병원, 감옥, 가족, 학교 및 이와 관련된 제도들이 부르조아사회의 출현에 따라 어떻게 권력을 행사하는가를 밝히고자 하였다. 이상의 논의를 통해서 본 논문은 푸꼬의 지식과 권력에 대한 논의가 일탈 및 통제에 대한 우리의 이해를 더욱 확장시켜주며 미시물리학적 권력이라는 분석전략을 중심으로 그의 독특한 방법론을 이해, 연구한다는데 의의를 두었다.;This study aims at a critical examination of M. Foucault's power-knowledge theory. It searches for the power of technobureaucratic systems offered by various forms of knowledge. Foucault also presents the discursive methodology as a framework of social analysis, specifically, on madness, disease, crime, and sexuality. His works single out that the deviant groups exemplify power and knowledge beyond a social solidarity, that is, a new technology of power. Above all, this thesis suggests a reconstruction of the conceptual framework of micro-physics of power as an analytical strategy. It analyzes political tactics as well as discursive systems exercised over the body, as over the mind. In this thesis, therefore the following aspects of M. Foucault's works were investigated and discussed. First, I examined Foucault's linguistic theory as a framework for social analysis. Second, the micro-physics of power was reconstructed for more relational and concrete understanding of Foucault's power-knowledge theory. Finally, I examined his regionalized works on madness, disease, crime and sexuality with his methodology and analytical strategy discussed above. In a nutshell, I argued through out this study that Foucault's power-knowledge theory shows us to understand the immanent issues of deviance, conrributing to a recent manifestations of our fascination with deviance. I also attempted to analyze and explaine the unique methodology which Foucault presents in his works, especially the conceptual framework of micro-physics of power. This study is only a first step toward much deeper and more extended analysis of Foucault's theory, expecially for its applicability to societal setting. It is my intent to contribute such a work which I consider most valuable sociological endeavor.
