실내환경디자인에 있어서 'Ethnic style'의 가치와 디자인 연출 과정에 관한 연구

Abstract

이 논문은 이미지 시대의 새로운 디자인 컨셉, 하나의 trend로서 부각되고 있는 Ethnic Style의 가치와 개념을 정의하고 그 특성 및 디자인의 표현 요건을 규명하며, 풍토적 이미지를 효과적으로 전달하기 위한 총체적인 디자인 연출 과정에 관한 연구이다. Ethnic Style은 일회적인 유행 현상이기에 앞서 일종의 시대화 개념(periodizing concept)으로서 경제적 질서와 이에 따른 사회적 삶의 새로운 유형과 관련하여 이해할 수 있다. 그 시대적 변화의 추이를 보자면, 첫번째로, 문화적 정체성의 회복을 들 수 있다. 이제까지 세계의 나라들은 서구화를 곧 근대화의 개념으로 받아들였고, 따라서 비서구문화가 보여주는 것은 서구 문화에 비해 늘 부족하고 열등한 것이라는 의식에 지배당했었다. 하지만 제 3세계의 나라와 민족들에서 문화적 자긍심과 영역적 권리에 대한 인식이 일어나면서, 과거 전통문화의 가치를 재평가하게 되었다. 두번째로, 美에 관한 의식의 변화를 들 수 있다. 과거 수십년간 지속되어 온 기능화, 편리성의 지향에 역점을 두어 온 디자인의 흐름은 이제 그 반작용으로서 영혼없는 기술의 완벽을 대신하여 인간의 감성을 움직이게 하는 美를, 매끈하고 세련된 美를 대신하여 불완전하지만 자연스런 느낌을 더 가치있는 것으로 여기게 되었다. 세번째로, 다양한 개성의 존중과 차별화 의식을 들 수 있다. 사회와 조직의 발전을 위하여 개인의 특성이 그 속에 침몰되어 버려야 했던 시대는 지나고 개인의 특성과 감각이 자유롭게 인정되고 그 차별성이 존중되어지는 시대가 되었다. 이러한 시대적 관점에서 본 연구는 다음과 같은 디자인 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 1. 각 민족, 종족들이 가진 전통적 맥락을 존중하여 서구 문화의 기계적이고 획일화된 조형 의식에서 찾아볼 수 없는 다양한 지역적, 문화적 아이덴티티를 디자인에 응용하는 공간 해석적 방법을 제시한다. 2. 이종문화권안에서 그 본질적인 -性(-ness)을 발견해나가는 과정을 통해, 디자이너가 자신의 현시점으로부터 이탈하여 새로운 공간적 세계로의 비일상적인 사고를 할 수 있는 방법과 가능성을 제공한다. 3. Ethnic Style의 디자인 표현으로 제시되는 시대적 색조의 표현, 사적 표현, 장식적 표현, 자연성을 표현 등을 통하여 새로운 시대의 美에 대한 가치 기준과 구체적인 표현을 보여준다. 4. Ethnic Style의 유형별 특징과 디자인 요소를 통하여 각양각색의 취향과 감각을 가지고 있는 이용자들을 위한 다양하고 차별화된 컨셉트로서의 Ethnic Image를 제시한다. 각 풍토의 이미지와 조형 감각을 직접 디자인에 활용하는 구체적인 방법과 더불어 창조적인 디자인 컨셉트로서의 발전 가능성을 시사해준다. 5. 다각적인 측면에 있어서 Ethnic Style의 디자인 연출은 의도하는 특정의 Ethnic Image를 공간안에 가시화하기 위한 총체적인 과정으로서 이해되어질 수 있다. 본 연구는 Ethnic Style의 전체적인 디자인 연출 과정을 통하여 단지 설계적 측면에 제한되어있지 않은 디자이너의 사고와 활동 영역을 강조함으로써, 보다 총체적인 시각에서 디자인을 주도해 나가는 감독자로서의 디자이너의 위상을 제시한다. 연구의 과정을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. Ethnic Style의 형성 배경을 시대적, 사회·문화적, 심리적 측면으로 나누어 고찰한다. 2. Ethnic Style이라는 용어의 개념을 정의하고 그 내용적 특성을 다학문적인 시각을 통해 분석한다. 3. 공간 해석적 측면과 재료·기술적인 측면에 있어서 Ethnic Style의 연출을 위한 표현 요건을 제시한다. 4. 실내 환경 디자인에 있어 중요한 디자인 컨셉트로 대두되어진 Ethnic Style의 연출 방식과 형성 요소에 대해 조사, 분석한다. 5. 각 Ethnic Style간의 유형별 구분을 두어 각각의 전체적 이미지와 형성 요소의 특성을 분석하고 이미지 꼴라지를 통한 시각적 자료를 제시한다. 6. 논문의 과정을 통해 제시한 Ethnic Style의 연출 과정과 접근 방법을 적용해서 구체적인 Ethnic Style의 공간 계획과 분석, 디자인 도출, 평가 과정에 대한 예를 제시함으로써 모든 연구의 내용을 정리한다. 새로운 시대에는 인간의 감성과 정신을 판단하고 연출할 수 있는 사람이 최대의 디자이너로서의 평가를 받을 것이다. 본 논문은 인간의 모든 감정을 모든 감각으로 알고 '살아있는 문화'를 연출하는 프로듀서로서의 디자이너의 역할을 살펴보고, 무한한 이미지의 보고(寶庫)로서 그 가치를 인정받고 있는 지역, 문화적 문맥으로부터 새로운 시대 감각에 호소할 수 있는 고유한 매력을 발견해내고자 하는데에 연구의 의의가 있다. 디자인에 있어 본 연구의 주제인 Ethnic Style은 이러한 대중성과 전문성의 오묘한 조화를 통해서만이 그 가치가 실현될 수 있다.;This thesis is to define the value and concept of Ethnic Styles, which stands out in bold relief as a new design concept, a trend in the days image, and manifests the characteristics and requisites of design expression. In addition, this thesis will examine the general process of design dramaturgy which effectively convey ethnic image. Ethnic Styles can be discribed as a 'periodizing concept' in relation to a economic system leading to a new pattern of social lift. It is not merely a temporary fashion. The following are the summary of the current thoughts. First there have been the restoration of cultural identification among nations. Most nations, developed or underdeveloped, have taken westernization for modernization until recently. Therefore, they had been dominated by the idea that the un-western ways were inferior to those of the west. However, as people in the third world become conscious of territorial rights and proud of their culture, they reevaluate the value of their tradition and culture. Second, there has been a change in the sense of beauty. The past trend of design, which lasted for decades, focused on function and convenience, whereas the present trend, which is a reaction to the past concept of design, considers the beauty which can appeal human spirit more valuable than technical perfection without soul, and emotional elements which are imperfect, but natural than refined delicacy. Third, a respect for various individuality and the concept of distinction appeared. After a time when individuality was assimilated to the development of a society or organization, a new era has come when a characteristic and a sense of an individual is acknowledged and the distinction is respected. From these historical points of view, This thesis is intended to present a direction of design as follow. 1. With respect to the traditional context that each ethic group has, this thesis presents a method of space interpretation by applying to design various regional and cultural identities which are not found in mechanical and uniform consciousness of the western culture. 2. This thesis suggests the method that allows a designer to have unusual thoughts through discovery the essential "-ness" in the cross cultural context and by side stepping his present position. 3. This thesis emphasizes a standard of value on beauty in a new age and a concrete expressions such as that of tint of time, individuality, decorating, and naturalness as design expression of Ethnic Styles. 4. This thesis suggests 'ethnic Image' as various and discriminated concept for users who have diverse tastes and senses, through features and design elements of each Ethnic Style. This thesis also previews the possibility of development as a creative design concept as well as a practical method of adapting an image of indigenous feature and formative sense. 5. The design dramaturgy of Ethnic Styles in multilateral sides can be understood as a process to visualize an intended specific Ethnic Style within space. This thesis, through the process of design dramaturgy based on Ethnic Styles, presents the status of a designer as a director who leads design with a holistic approach by emphasizing a designer's physical and mental field which are not limited a mere blueprint. The processes can be summarized as follows. 1. This thesis divides the formative background of Ethnic Styles into the historical, the socio-cultural and psychological aspects. The historical aspect shows the trace of transformation of Ethnic Styles which have been the main theme in human history from the beginning to the 'Ethnic Revial' of the post-modern era. The socio-cultural aspect tells us how a trend that is related to the socio-cultural context appears as Ethnic Styles and what phenomena the trends will bring in terms of Ethnic Styles. The psychological aspect prefers 'Ethnic' as its theme. These historical, socio-cultural and psychological aspects, as a result lead us to define the value of Ethnic Styles. 2. This thesis examines the concept of the term 'Ethnic Style' and the character of its contents. This thesis, in addition analyses the viewpoints on Ethnic Styles in the frame of such studies as cultural anthropology, aesthetics, and ecology. 3. The requsites for expression of dramaturgy of Ethnic Styles on devided into spatial interpretation aspect and material-technological aspect, the spatial interpretation aspect refers to ex-ethnocentric composition, the application of 'Field Note', multi dimensional approach to senses and the operation of scenario. These are all for the fundamental approaches to endemic characters. This thesis presents the method of spatial interpretation with examples, and it also presents the expression of tint of time, individuality, decorating, and naturalness as concrete expressions for dramaturgy of Ethnic Styles in terms of material-technological aspect. 4. This thesis examines and analyzes the design dramaturgy method and design elements of an Ethnic Styles which surface as important concepts. This thesis investigates diverse cases in which an Ethnic Style is applied as a design concept and offers information to designers who creates a design concept. Moreover, This thesis broadens understanding on Ethnic Styles and helps to approach Ethnic Styles in a variety of ways by suggesting diverse design methods in the dramaturgy of Ethnic Styles, such as general production, subject based production eclectic combination among different Ethnic Styles, and contemporary application of Ethnic Styles. 5. In applying Ethnic Styles accenting to types, we can classify the type of each Ethnic Style by dividing the cultural area which have a conspicuous formative quality based on types, analysing general characters and the characters of formative elements of each type, and visually presenting the types through image collage. This thesis also states different approaching methods in applying Ethnic Styles to spatial types such as residential space, commercial space, and theme park. Besides, this thesis comments on difference and matters to be attended in doing so. 6. This thesis arranges previous studies concerning Ethnic Styles by applying the approaching method for dramaturgy of Ethnic Styles mentioned above and by presenting concrete examples on the space planning and analysis of Ethnic Styles, design outcome, and evaluating processes. In the new era, a designer who can produce and judge the human emotion and mentality will be evaluated as best. This thesis examines the role of a designer as a producer who knows all kinds of human emotion with all senses and produces a 'live culture'. This thesis also has a point in discovery and area whose value has been recognized as a treasury with limitless image, and a specific attraction which appeals to senses of new era through cultural context. The Ethic Style, the main topic of this thesis on design, can realize its value only through delicate balance between popularity and specially.
