움직임에 관한 시각표현 연구

Abstract

예술가들은 끊임없이 자신들의 내부세계를 외부로 표출함으로써 보는 대중들과 함께 자신들의 세계를 공유하기 위해서 노력한다. 예술작품 속에 표현되어진 의미와 의도 등을 보는 대중들은 모두 이해할 수는 없지만 그 속에는 반드시 보는 이의 경험과 기억 등에 의해 예감되고 체험되어지는 그 어떤 이미지가 있기 때문에 상호교감이 이루어 질 수 있다. 예술의 영역 가운데 과거의 고전발레는 전통성을 지니고 어떤 일정한 형식위에 구축되어 한정된 동작 및 형태, 신체 그 자체의 미화에만 치중했으나 현대무용은 그 자체가 바로 한 인간의 정신이자 사상이고 자유로운 방법으로 전신을 이용했다는 점에서 동작의 범위를 확장시키고 인간의 육체 뿐만 아니라 정신적인 면을 추구하여 다양한 창조의 세계를 개척해 냈다는 점에서 가치가 있다. 현대무용가 머스 커닝햄(Merce Cunningham)의 무용세계는 자연스러운 움직임을 중요시하였고, 관객 스스로가 그 움직임을 통해 의미를 느낄 수 있도록 하는 열린 공간으로 표현했다는 점에서 미술표현에 있어서의 창조적 가능성을 찾을 수 있었다. 따라서 본 연구는 커닝햄의 무용세계와 미술에서의 연관성을 '움직임'이라는 요소를 통해 고찰하고, 본 연구자의 내면에 흐르는 이미지를 포착하여 시각 표현을 하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 구성은 다음과 같다. Ⅱ장에서는 현대무용과 미술의 상호연관성을 찾기 위한 논리적 전제로서 먼저 현대무용이 생성된 배경과 개념에 대해 고찰하고, 현대무용가 머스 커닝햄의 무용세계에 나타난 움직임의 특징과 그의 무용세계에 나타난 역설적인 면에 대해서 알아보았다. Ⅲ장에서는 미술에 있어서의 조형적 분석으로서 움직임의 표현방법으로 크로노포토그래피(chronophotography)에 대해서 언급하고 움직임의 표현사례에 대해 살펴 보았다. Ⅳ장에서는 커닝햄의 무용세계를 미술에서의 시각적 요소로 분석하고, 시각표현으로서의 움직임이 지니는 가치에 대해서 알아보았다. Ⅴ장에서는 제작의도와 제작과정에 대해 언급하고, 작품표현상의 이론적 배경으로 공간 및 심상에 대해서와 선의 개념과 역할 등에 대해 살펴 보았다. 다음으로 제작한 작품 8점을 제시하고, 조형이론과 본 연구자의 감각을 바탕으로 하여 작품설명을 하였다. 본 연구는 표현에 있어서 너무 논리적이고 정확하고 계산되어 나온 듯한 완벽한 형태의 추구보다는 신체의 움직임을 통해 느껴지는 지극히 자연스러운 세계를 효과적으로 표현하여 관념적 세계로의 구체적인 접근방법을 모색하고 그 가능성을 찾고자 한 것이다.;The artists strive to share their world with the public by continuously expressing their inner world. The public will not be able to understand all of the meaning and purposes expressed by art, but through their experience and memories, the public can feel and experience certain images which enable communication of feelings between the artist and the public. Within various artistic forms, the classical ballet stress on the limited movement, form, and beautification of the physical body. On the contrary the value of the modern dance is its expression of the human spirit and ideology. This is accomplished through liberal usage of entire body thus expanding the range of movement which allows exploration of various aspects of creativity by pursuing physical as well as mental facets. The possibility of creation of artistic expression can be found in the dance realm of the modern dancer Merce Cunningham. His focus on natural bodily movement allowed audience to feel the meaning through the movement by expressing the open space. Therefore, this thesis tries to visually express my feelings by researching the relationship between Cunningham's dance realm and art through the aspect of the movement. Capter Ⅱ is attempt to losically establish relationship between modem dance and art. This capter reviews the background and the concept of the modern dance, the characteristics of movements in dance realm of Merce Cunningham, and the paradoxical aspects of his dance realm. Capter Ⅲ is the formative analysis of art. Chronophotography is mentioned as a method of expressing movement and examples ate given. Capter Ⅳ is the artistic visual analysis of Merce Cunningham's dance realm, and the value of movement through visual expression is explained. Capter Ⅴ reviews my purpose in producing this visual expressions and the procedures I have followed. In addition, the concept and the role of space image and line are reviewed as the theoretical background. Lastly, 8 pieces of my work are presented. The analysis of each piece is presented based on my feeling and formative theory. Through this thesis, I have tried to find specific ways to approach an ideological realm through effective expression of natural body movements instead of pursuing logical and calculated perfect form.
