金聲翰 小說의 서술상황 연구

Abstract

김성한은 1950년대의 혼란된 현실을 다양한 기법을 통해 표현해 낸 작가이다. 따라서 이러한 기법적 특성을 토대로 특수한 시대와 작품과의 주제적인 연관성을 밝히는데 논의가 집중되었다. 또한 논의의 쟁점이 풍자성을 떤 몇몇 작품들에 치우쳐 있고, 구체적 작품론이 미비한 상태로 남아 있다. 이러한 논의의 편향성을 극복하고자 작가의 의도나 목소리를 담고 있는 서술자의 위상을 통해 작품의 의미를 통합적으로 규명해 내는데 목적을 두었다. 즉 서술자는 이야기를 주관하는 주체이면서 동시에 특수한 사회 현실을 안고 있는 작가의 이념적 대변자이기 때문이다. 따라서 서술자의 모습을 면밀히 검토하는 것이 작풍의 의미를 해명하는 열쇠일 뿐 아니라 작가의 의도 및 작가의 현실 인식 문제를 이해 할 수 있는 척도가 된다. 본고에서는 서술자의 위치나 태도, 서술 기법을 소설 전체 구조와의 관련성 아래 검토함으로써 작가가 함의하고 있는 의미와 작품 구성의 원리를 밝혀 보았다. 먼저 소설 속의 서술자가 작가적인가, 인물적 서술자인가, 1인칭 서술자인 가에 따라 각 작품을 유형화하고 각각의 서술자가 재현하는 서사 세계의 특성을 검출하였다. Ⅱ장에서는 작가적 서술상황이 드러나는 작품군을 살펴 보았다. 작가의 목소리를 탐지한 서술자는 인물과의 거리를 유동적으로 조성하거나 서술 위치를 수직적으로 이동하여 부정적 세계를 효과적으로 재현해 내고 있다. Ⅲ장에서는 작가가 인물의 뒤에 숨어 인물의 목소리로 세계를 재현해 내는 서술 상황을 고찰하였다. 인물의 목소리와 작가의 목소리가 혼재되는 양상과 고정된 초점화를 통해 인물의 내면 의식과 세계 인식이 드러나고 있다. 인물의 시각에서 바라보는 세계는 여전히 부정적 모습을 띄고 있고, 작가는 이러한 모습을 인물의 내면에 반영함으로써 직접적으로 현실을 재단했던 태도에서 벗어나 작가의 관념적 세계를 우회적으로 표출시키고 있다. Ⅳ장에서는 서술자와 등장 인물이 동일 공간에 존재하는 1인칭 서술 상황의 작품을 분석하였다. 1인칭 서술 상황은 다시 주변적 1인칭 서술 상황과 유사 자전적 1인칭 서술 상황으로 나누어지게 되는데, 주변적 1인칭 서술자는 서술된 사건들을 중개화 또는 주관화시키는 역할을 하게 된다. 따라서 서술자의 관찰이나 경험, 평가 등이 대상에 대해 어떤 거리에서 지각되는가가 중요한 관건이 된다. 유사자전적 1인칭 서술자는 서술 자아와 경험 자아간의 서술적 거리에서 의미를 획득하게 된다. 이러한 서술 상황의 특성을 중심으로 김성한의 1인칭 서술 상황을 살펴 보았을 때, 1인칭 서술자가 비공감적인 모습을 취함에 따라 전도된 세계를 드러내는데 효과적으로 작용하고 있음을 밝혀 내었다. Ⅱ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ장이 작품 내적 현실과 서술상황과의 관련성을 중심으로 한 논의라고 한다면, Ⅴ장에서는 작품 외적 현실과의 관련성을 토대로 서사적 세계의 변모 과정을 함께 다루었다. 여기서 김성한 소설의 서술 특성을 통시적으로 검토하면서 개별적 논의들을 종합적으로 고찰할 수 있었다. 결국 김성한은 혼돈적 상황이 가중되자 작가의 목소리를 통한 직접적 비판의 자세를 견지하고 인물의 목소리를 통해 우회적인 태도로 자신의 관념이나 갈등을 드러내고 있다. 이와 같은 고찰을 통하여 작가가 의도하는 서사세계와 서술 상황이 긴밀하게 연결되어 있음을 밝혀 내었고, 아울러 극한 상황의 시대 현실이 독특한 서사 기법을 창출해내었음을 알 수 있었다.;Kim, sunghan was a novelist who had expressed chaotic real life of '50 by various techniques. So, the purpose of this thesis is to examine relationship between a special era and theme of his works based on its unique characters. and its argument has been declined to several satical works and concrete theory of his works have been remained on insufficient state. In order to overcome its declination of discussion, this thesis was focusing on find out meaning of his works written by narrator's position which contain authors' intention and purpose. That is, narrator is a main character who leads to story as well as representative of author's ideology that holds a unique social reality. So, looking at author's feature closely is a key to explain meaning of his works and becomes a ruller for understanding of his intention and understanding level for reality. In this thesis, an author's included meanings and theory of novels' structure were discussed by reviewing narrator's position, attitude, and narrative techniques based on relationship of novels' entire structure. First, each works was embodied by checking with narrators' forms like authorial narrator, figural narrator, and first-person narrator, and a unique characters of narrative world created by each narrator were examined. An authorial narrative situation novel was analyzed in chapter Ⅱ. As narrator who has a author's voice flexibly controled distance from characters or vertically moved narrator's position to effectively reveal the negative world. In chapter Ⅲ, a narrative situation, author reappeared the world using by character's voice behind him was studied closely. In here, character's inside consciousness and recognition for the world were found out by mixed aspect of character and authors' voice and fixing focus. The world viewed from character's point of view still was remained in negative feature and as author reflected this kind of aspect to character's inside, he expressed indirectly author's ideological world by getting out of direct attitude to control the real world. A first-person narrative situation; a narrator and character exists at a same place, was studied in chapter Ⅳ. A first-person narrative situation was divided by two groups, the peripheral first-person situation that acts to intermediate or subject to narrated situation, and the quasi-autobiographical first-person situation. So, how narrator's observation and evaluation perceive its distance from object have been very important matter, the quasi-autobiographical first-person narrator can obtain a meaning by distance between narrative ego and experiential ego. when Kim's first-person narrative situation has examined by unique character of narrative situation, it was foundt that first-person narrator took antipathetic aspects which were effectively activated to reveal the twist world. If chapter Ⅱ, Ⅲ, Ⅳ were focused on discussion about novels' inside reality and narrative situation, a process of narrative world based on outside changing reality and its relationship were studied in chapter Ⅴ. In here, each discussion could be examined by macroscopic investigating a unique character of kim's works. Finally, Kim avoided direct criticize by author's voice when a chaotic situation has been increasing, and he expressed his perception and conflict by characters' voice indirectly. Throughout this study it was found that author's intended narrative world and situation have close relationship, and reality of extreme situation made on a unique narrative technique.
