STS교수 학습방법을 이용한 성교육이 학생들의 성에 대한 지식과 태도에 미치는 영향

Abstract

For adolescents to receive a systematic sex education, there must be preceding education of knowledge about sex based on understanding of the biological factors and sensible sexual awareness. Though a large number of sex educations have been conducted so far, there are not enough researches on the connection between sex education and science course at school. Moreover, researches on the connection between sex education and STS Learning Program is not enough either, even though STS Learning Program is quite effective in enhancing students' learning achievement and improving their attitude toward learning. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to see whether it is effective to apply a method of teaching and learning based on STS Learning Program to students' understanding about sex. The unit <Ⅲ. Life - 3. Reproduction> in general science for 10th grade of high school is conducted with 10 lessons based on STS Learning Program for the period from May to July. The research of students' understanding and attitude toward sex is tested by pretest-posttest control group design. The subject of this research is a group of 138 high school students and they are divided into two groups; one group is taught with STS Learning Program and the other is traditional lecture-centered group, which is a controlled group. Depending on the level of students, each group of students are divided into three groups; advanced, intermediate, and pre-intermediate, to check out the effectiveness. The result of the lecture based on STS Learning Program is estimated with ANOCOVA. The conclusion from the research shows followings. First, it is definitely effective in enhancing the students' understanding about sex education using the method of teaching and learning based on STS Learning Program in class. This result is shown in every group regardless of the level of students. Second, lecture based on STS Learning Program encourages students to have positive attitude toward sex. It is also effective to every level of students. Furthermore, STS Learning Program leads students to have open-mindedness to sex, recognition about help from a specialist when there is a sexual problem, knowledge about contraception and abortion, understanding on the importance of the sex education and the responsibility for sexual behaviors. Therefore, a variety of researches with STS Learning Program about other groups should be conducted since the sex education based on STS Learning Program has proved to be quite effective for high school students. In addition, researches on the changes in attitude toward sex should be done not only in a quantitative respect but also in a qualitative respect such as depth interview and accurate observation. Because the resulting changes in attitude toward sex must not be temporary but permanent, studies about the continuous effect of the lecture based on STS Learning Program is needed to be done even after the class with STS Learning Program.;청소년들을 위한 체계적인 성교육이 이루어지려면 생물학적인 이해를 바탕으로 한 성지식과 분별 있는 성의식을 갖게 하는 것이 우선시되어야 한다. 그동안 성교육에 관한 수많은 연구가 수행되어져 왔으나 과학교과와 관련시킨 연구가 더 필요한 실정이다. 또한 STS학습 프로그램이 학생들의 학업성취도와 태도의 향상에 효과적이나 성교육을 STS학습 방법으로 수행한 연구가 충분하지 않았다. 따라서 본 연구는 STS교수 학습 방법을 이용한 학습 프로그램을 개발하고 이를 적용한 수업이 학생들에게 성에 대한 지식과 태도 면에서 효과적인가를 알아보고자 하였다. 10학년 공통과학의 III.생명 - 3. 생식단원의 내용을 5월부터 7월까지 10차시에 걸쳐 STS교수 학습 방법으로 구성하였다. 성에 대한 지식과 태도의 검사는 사전-사후 검사 설계(pretest-posttest control group design)를 사용하였다. 연구대상은 138명의 비수도권 A여자고등학생들이며, 이들을 두 집단으로 나누어 실험집단에게는 개발한 STS자료를 사용하여 수업하고, 통제집단은 강의 중심의 전통적 수업을 하였다. 또한 두 집단을 학업성취 수준에 따라 그 효과를 알아보았다. 수업 처치 후 학생들의 성에 대한 지식과 태도의 효과는 SAS를 이용하여 공변량분석을 하였다. 연구 결과 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, STS교수 학습 방법은 학생들의 성에 대한 지식의 향상에 효과가 있었다(p<. 01). 이런 결과는 학업 성취수준별 상위ㆍ중위ㆍ하위그룹의 비교에서도 모두 효과가 있었다(p<. 01). 둘째, STS교수 학습 방법은 학생들의 성에 대한 태도를 바람직한 방향으로 향상시켰다(p<. 01). 또한 이를 학생들의 학업 성취수준별 비교한 결과에서도 모두 효과가 있었다(p<. 01). 특히 태도의 하위 영역 중 성에 대한 개방성, 성문제 발생시 전문가의 도움에 대한 인식, 피임과 인공유산에 대한 인식, 성교육의 중요성에 대한 인식, 성 행위에 대한 책임감에 대한 면에서 유의미한 효과가 있었다(p<. 01).
