Aaron Copland의 Symphony NO.2에 대한 분석 연구

Abstract

Aaron Copland(1900~1990)는 20세기 미국의 대표적인 작곡가중의 한 사람으로 다양한 양식의 곡들을 작곡하였다. 그는 전통적인 기법을 토대로 여러나라의 민속선율, 재즈, 실용음악, 음열음악등 그의 음악기법을 확장시켰다. 본 논문에서 다룬 <Symphony NO. 2>는 그의 4기 작품중 1933년에 완성한 제2기 작품으로서 모두 3악장으로 되어있으며 각 악장은 휴지부없이 연결되고 있다. 각 악장에 나타난 주선율은 뚜렷한 윤곽을 지니고 있으나 서로 상관관계를 가지고 부분적으로 적용된다. 이는 Copland의 순환원리에 의해 그가 주제적 통일성을 추구 했음을 보여주고 있다. 화성은 3음 혹은 5음을 생략한 3화음을 비롯하여 7화음의 연속진행과 9, 11, 13화음들이 해결없이 사용되었고 2도 불협화음정, 4도 구성화음, 5도 구성화음이 진행된다. 또한 이명동음을 사용한 복조성, 복화음의 특성을 볼수 있다. 리듬은 자주 변하는 박자와 당김음으로 인해 재즈적 인상을 갖게 하고, 강·약 대비가 뚜렷한 셈여림은 극의 긴장감을 고조시키고 있다. 관현악법은 음색추구를 위해 다양한 연주기법을 동시에 사용하였고 목관부에서 주로 선율이 제시되고 있으며 타악기가 제외된 반면 Piano가 그 역활을 담당하였다. 이 곡을 분석한 결과, 각 악장의 구성과 주선율간의 상호유기적인 연관관계, 화성, 리듬, 관현악법에 나타난 특징들이 Copland 제2기 작품의 음악적 특성을 잘 나타내고 있음을 알 수 있다.;Aaron Copland (1900-1990), as one of the representative 20th century American composers, composed various kinds of music. He adopted folk melodies and jazz while keeping traditional technique Serial and other forms of music were used in his own way. The "Symphony No.2" which is dealt with in this study is an artwork of Copland's 2nd period. He completed it in 1933. The symphony is composed of three movements which are connected without interruption. The major melody appearance in each movement has distinguished contours of its own. However, it is partially applied to the whole with interrelations to the others. shows that he pursued thematic unity on cyclic principle. As far as harmony is concerned, Copland used a successive progression of the 7th, 9th, 11th and 13th chords without solution. As well, he also used triads with 3rd or 5th note emitted; dyad, quartal and quintal Chords are progressed; a polytonality and polyharmony can be seen to be characteristic of his work. Rhythm takes on an impression that is similar to jazz, mainly due to the changing meter and syncopation as well as a clear contrast between the sections. This heightens the tension of the symphony. Orchestration makes use of various performing techniques simultaneously for the sake of tone, presents the melody chiefly in the woodwind, and replaces percussion with piano. To sum up the analysis o f this piece: The main characteristics appear in the composition of each movement, there exist systematic relations among melodies, harmony, rhythm and orchestration. These findings adequately describe the musical character of Copland's second period work.
