의학도서관 참고봉사에 관한 연구

Abstract

The object of medical library is to provide efficiently users such as professors, students, and medical servicemen with information which can assist medical researches and activities and enhance their qualities. In achieving this object, the medical library reference services have become more important than any other medical library services for its major function is to select the useful information for user among abundant information sources which have been bursting out over the whole world. This study surveyed the present conditions of medical library reference services in Korea and suggested some helpful ways to improve their conditions so that the services may be better-functional and more useful fir users. The study took questionaire as survey method. Questionaires were distributed to 30 libraries in Korea form April to September in 1986. Data were gathered from 20 out the initially questioned 30 libraries, and they were analyzed. The results can be summarized as follows: 1. The users who uses the medical library reference services frequently are resident(intern), professors,(staffs), researchers, students, and the others, in this other. 2. The most frequently performed services in medical library reference services are advice on document search9the service item to which 10 out 20 libraries marked "frequently" in the questionarie) and retrospective search (the item to which 13 out of 20 marked "frequently"). The services such as selective dissemination of recent information o current awareness service are given by a few medical university libraries. 3. Although interlibrary loan service is now being well-functioned (the problem still exist that), data requests are concentrated in three major medical libraries s a whole. 4. Only 2 libraries are providing users with abstract translation service while all libraries are giving photocopy service. 5. Only one library have the perfect education program for the purpose of well-functioning of library reference services: other 5 libraries hold the simple library guide program about once a year: the rest 14 libraries have no special program: they only answer the users' individual request about how to use second sources. 6. While one library have users' information request from in order to operate reference services efficiently, the rest substitute photocopy form for information request form. 7. Two libraries are operating information search system for recent information document search. 8. The average medical library services years of medical reference librarians are 5.9 years. Almost all(19 out of 20,95%) did not major in medical science or its relevant areas. Most of them majored in library science in college of graduate school and therefore could work in this field after having one year or more of adaptation period. 9. Although 18 out of 20(95%) medical reference librarians of assistant librarian certificates, 2out of 20(10%) are found to have no one. 10. Medical reference librarian have been participating positively and consistently in the re-education programs which Korea Medical Library Association has been providing. 11. Medical reference librarians indicated that the requirements for becoming a medical librarian are subject knowledge about medical science and its relevant areas, proficiency in medical terminology and familiarity with several languages.;인간의 생명을 다루는 의학은 사회의 발전에 따른 보건 및 건강에 대한 개념의 확대와 함께 계속 발달되고 있다. 이러한 결과로 의학분야의 자료는 타학문의 추종을 불허할 정도로 급속히 증가되어 생산되고 있다. 따라서 교육과 연구의 뒷받침과 양질의 의료를 베풀 수 있도록 엄청난 정보원중 의학분야 연구자들이 요구하는 정보를 신속하고 효율적이게 제공해야 하는 의학도서관 참고봉사의 문제는 중요하다. 이와같은 점을 고려하여 본 연구에서는 의학 및 의학문헌의 특성과 의학도서관의 발달, 의학 참고봉사의 내용을 개괄적으로 살펴보았고 전세계 의학도서관의 중추역할을 하고 있는 미국국립의학도서관 (National Library of Me야cine ) 의 활동내용과 함께 국내의학도서관 참고봉사의 현황을 조사하였다. 이 현황조사를 토대로 하여 국내 의학도서관 참고봉사의 일반 경향을 파악하였다. 조사대상이 된 20개 국내 의학도서관들이 이용자에게 가장 많이 하고 있는 참고봉사는 문헌탐색에 대한 조언과 소급문헌의 탐색이었고 최신정보의 검색 현황주지봉사의 심도는 미약하다. 의학도서관간의 상호대차활동은 다른 주제분야들 보다 활발히 이루어지고 있었으나 자료의뢰가 몇 의학도서관에 집중되고 있어 자료원의 심한 불균형이 있다. 효율적인 참고봉사의 운영을 위해 이용자의 정보요구를 작성하는 형식을 갖추어야 하는데 문헌복사신청서를 정보 요구 형식으로 대신하고 있는 곳이 19개 도서관이었다. 의학 참고봉사 담당자는 의학 및 관련분야의 주제지식과 2차자료에 대한 이용법 등을 정확히 알고 있어야 하지만 봉사담당자들은 근무초기에 거의 모두(19명) 주제지식을 갖추고 있지 못했으며 의학도서관 근무에 적응하는데 1년 이상이 요구 된다. 의학도서관 참고봉사를 효율적으로 수행하기 위한 제안은 다음과 같다. 1. 최신정보 문헌검색을 위하여 도서관내의 활동은 선착자료 목차 속보봉사를 확대 활용하며 도서관외의 활동으로는 지역적으로 인접한 도서관들이 외부 정보원을 검색할 수 있는 시스템을 공동으로 이용하는 방안이 필요하다. 2. 이용자에게 도서관의 봉사활동내용과 2차자료 이용법 등에 대해 적극적으로 교육해야 한다. 3. 의학도서관간의 소장자료 불균형을 해소하기 위한 다각적인 정보원의 확보와 지원이 요구된다. 4. 의학사서의 훈련을 위해 의학도서관협회에서 매년 실시하는 의학용어학 등의 강좌가 의학도서관 현 직원뿐 아니라 도서관학을 전공하는 학생들에게도 개방되어야 한다.
