M. Ravel의 'Valses Nobles et Sentimentales'에 관한 연구

Abstract

라벨은 음악사에 있어 새로운 전환기인 19세기말 20세기 초에 활약한 작곡가로서 뚜렷한 정통적 형식 위에 드뷔시의 비정통적 화성의 영향을 받아 인상주의적 표현을 통해 독특한 음악세계를 구축한 작곡가였다. 그에게 큰 영향을 주었던 인물로는 알렉시스 샤브리에와 에릭 사티, 가브리엘 포레, 끌로드 드뷔시라고 볼 수 있는데 그들과의 영향관계는 그의 작품 곳곳에 나타나고 있다. 본 논문에서는 라벨의 주요 피아노 작품과 특징을 살펴보고, 특히 피아노 독주곡 중에서 후기 작품에 속하는 Valese nobles et Sentimentales의 선율, 리듬, 화성적 분석을 통해 라벨 특유의 독특한 음악을 연구하였다. Valese nobles et Sentimentales의 내용을 살펴보면, 이 작품은 모두 8개의 왈츠로 이루어져 있는데, 각곡은 시작음과 끝음이 모두 일치하여 자연스럽게 연결되고 있고, 대부분은 8마디의 규칙적인 악절 구조로 되어있어 전통적 형식미를 고수하고 있다. 전체곡은 각각의 조성을 가지고 있으며, 이러한 조성과 함께 Aeolian 선법, Dorian 선법등 고대의 선법을 사용하고 있으며 인상주의적 기법의 하나인 전음음계 (whole tone scale)가 중요하게 사용되기도 하였다. 화성은 명백한 Ⅴ-Ⅰ의 전통을 고수하면서 3도의 축적화음을 널리 사용하였고, 인상주의 기법중 하나인 6도, 7도, 8도등의 병진행이 빈번히 사용되었으며 3화음, 7화음 병진행도 보여준다. 선율은 각 주선율이 뚜렷히 나타나기도 하고 음정관계에 의한 동형진행으로 선율이 진행, 발전되기도 한다. 리듬은 대부분 전통적인 왈츠리듬에 단순한 리듬형태의 당김음, Hemiola 리듬 등을 사용하여 변화를 주고 있다. 이처럼 라벨은 고전적 전통을 고수하는 한편 혁신적일 새로움내지 드뷔시의 인상주의를 잘 조화시켜 그만의 독자적인 작품세계를 이루어 음악사에 뚜렷한 발자취를 남겼다.;Ravel was the composer who deployed activities at the turning point in the history of music from the late 19th century to early 20th century, who has established a unique musical world through his impressionistic expression influenced by Debussy's unorthodox harmony plus distinct classical rules. The important characters who influenced Ravel considerably are Alexis Chabrier, Eric Satie and Gabriel Faure. This study examines Ravel's major piano works and their characteristics through analysis of melody, rhythm, and harmony in 'Valses Nobles e t Sentimentales' Which belongs t o Ravel's later works among his piano solo collections 'Valses Nobles et Sentimentales' is composed of 8 waltzes, each of them is smoothly connected in the way that the ending tone of the waltz accords with the starting tone of the following waltz, and most of them adhere to the traditional beauty of forms, being in a structure of regular period of 8 measures. Each waltz has an individual tonality, using ancient mode such as Aeolian and Dorian mode, etc., as well as the whole tone scale which is one o f the impressionistic techniques. The harmony adhering to the tradition of distinct V-I, he had the wide use of third super-imposed chords, and also the frequent uses of parallel progression of sixth , seventh and eighth and the parallel progression of triad and seventh chords which are in the impressionistic technique. Each main melody is distinctly appeared at a certain part, which is proceeded in sequence by interval. He gives variety by using syncopation and hemiola rhythm on the traditional waltz rhythm in most of his rhythm. As a conclusion, Ravel had made a great contribution to the history of music by creating his unique musical world in good harmony with the innovatory newness and Debussy's impressionism, while adhering to the classical tradition.
