Igor Stravinsky의 「Octet for Wind Instruments」에 관한 소고

Abstract

Igor Stravinsky(1882 ∼ 1971)는 그의 일생을 통해 당 시대 뿐만 아니라 특히 현대 음악에 있어서도 많은 영향을 미친 신 고전주의의 대표적인 작곡가이다. 그는 원시적 생명력에의 동경을 표명하는 초기의 원시주의로 부터 예술에 보다 객관적인 접근을 하기 위해 신 고전주의로 전환하였다. 본 논문에서는 첫째로, 신 고전주의가 탄생하게 된 동기와 특성 및 Stravinsky의 신 고전주의의 주요 작품들을 살펴 보았고, 둘째로는 Octet for Wind Instruments의 작곡 동기와 작품 구성 및 형식·화성·선율·리듬을 중심으로 작품의 특징을 연구하였다. Octet for Wind Instruments에서 소나타 형식의 1악장과 주제와 변주 형식의 2악장 그리고 론도 형식의 3악장 구성은 고전 시대의 형식적인 면을 나타내 주고 있으며, 전 악장을 통해 대위법적 구성이 이 곡의 기조가 되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 화성에 있어서는 전통적인 3화음의 체계와 함께 부가음, 분리음 화성, 복조의 사용 등으로 새로운 움직임의 탈 조성 형태를 살펴 볼 수 있었고, 선율은 장·단3도의 진행으로 전 악장에 통일감을 주고 있으며 2악장의 주제와 각 변주곡의 선율이 독특한 Octatonic Scale(8음 음계)에 의해 이루어졌고 1, 3악장에서는 7도 음정의 선율 진행이 주제적 음정임을 알 수 있었다. 특히 리듬에 있어서는 slur(이음줄), tie(붙임줄)을 사용하여 기존의 액센트에 변화를 주었고, syncopation(당김음)의 사용과 홀수박자의 개척, 침묵의 사용, Poly-rhythm의 개발 등으로 형태의 변화를 강조하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이렇게 Stravinsky의 Octet for Wind Instruments를 분석 연구한 결과 음악적 요소들이 초기 원시주의 작품에서 보다 간결화 되어 나타나고 있으며, 화성의 전통적인 기능으로 부터 탈피하여 새로운 조성을 정립하였고, 17·18세기의 형식과 대위법적 구성이 이 곡의 기조를 이루고 있다는 점에서 신 고전주의의 특징이 뚜렷이 나타난 작품임을 알 수 있었다.;Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971) is the representative composer of Neo-classicism, who has given much influence especially on the modern music as well as on the music of his age through all his life. To make more objective approach to art, Stravinsky converted to Neo-Classicism from the earlier style of Primitivism showing his yearning for the primitive vitality. This study is intended first to review the motive of the appearance of Neo-Classicism, its characteristic, and the main works of Stravinsky's Neo-Classicism's; secondly, to study the characteristic of Octet for wind Instruments through a thorough examination of the motive of composition, the structure of the work, form, harmony, melody, and rhythm. In Octet for Wind Instruments, the structure which is composed of the first movement in sonata form, the second in theme and variation, and the third in rondo shows the formal aspect of the classicism, and the contrapunctal configuration becomes the basic tone throughout the whole movements. In harmony, free tonality form is showed from the traditional triad system together with the use of added tone, split chord, poly tonality, and so on. In melody, the unity is given through the whole movements by the progress of major, minor thirds; the theme and melody of each variation of the second movement is composed by the peculiar octat onic scale: in the first and third movement, the melodic progress of the seventh degree tone is thematic. Especially is rhythm, the use of slur and tie gives the change on accent and the change of form is emphasized by the use of syncopation, exploration of odd time, the use of silence, exploitation of poly-rhythm, and so forth. As the result of analysis and studies on Stravinsky's Octet for Wind Instruments, it is the very work peculiarly showing the characteristic of Neo-Classicism, in that musical elements are more simplified than the earlier Primitivism; new tonality is established free from the traditional function of harmony; the basic tone is the form and contrapunctal configuration of the 17th or 18th century.
