Abstract
With technological development and changes, a modern museum has evolved from a place with its simple purpose to preserve and display items in array into exhibition space with a new concept. Audience’s experiences differ according to how items are exhibited, which is a basic function of museum. The type of experience is determined by spatial structure of the museum. The circulation and the perceptive responses of audience with their direct relationship with the spatial structure of the exhibition space provide visitors with a wide array of experiences. In case of science museums, exhibition planning focusing on communicating knowledge, not being limited to preserving and arranging contents but through experiments and games, provide them with distinctive characteristics. Recent science museums tend to encourage audience to actively participate, allowing them to touch and operate items instead of passively acquiring information. The recent trend is dynamic exhibition in which visitors’ active participation is prerequisite. To create an exhibition environment that is inclusive and interactive, this study aims at creating dynamic space so that the space and contents can interact with each other and thus generate a synergy effect. Additionally, the purpose of this study is to provide visitors with exhibition space with variation and flow, not monotonous and boring space. This study, considering the fact that spatial experience in museums occurs with visual contact while exploring the museums in motion, plans to create dynamic space through perceptive effects using circulation. Based on the perception theory which weighs heavily in spatial experience, the study sets out to investigate as to in which circumstances dynamic space is generated and how it can be applied to exhibition space and circulation. This study examines expressive effects by studying cases of attempts to create dynamic space through circulation. A practical design plan along with a designated site is chosen based on a plan to construct dynamic space through this theoretical process. The design plan is to build an electricity museum where exhibition interacts with the dynamic space to maximize the effects. The exterior is designed to enable diverse alternation of the circulation. It is intended to provide the audience with various perceptive experiences to make the best use of the internal and external space to create dynamic space. The results of this study are as follows: Dynamics in space is a basic element that confers variety on space. It has been applied in a variety of space through a range of transformation of basic space. Also, it needs to design the circulation dynamically in order to emphasize the dynamics in space as well as to maximize its effects. The planning of space and circulation path should be carried out in a way that fits each museum because functions differ according to sizes and characteristics of the space. In order to promote dynamics in space and satisfy basic conditions of exhibition environment at the same time, an effective plan in the spatial programming process is necessary. Also, producing dynamic space has a lot in common with various changes in visual perception. The study confirms that dynamic spatial arrangement is essential for effective exhibition and the method to realize it with circulation carries validity. Furthermore, through embodying dynamics in not only museums but also in diverse other architectural spaces, as well as applying various changes in circulation, space will become more changeable and diversified. Hence, this study is meaningful as it provides a different approach of environmental design in that respect.;현대의 박물관은 시대의 변화와 기술의 발전에 따라 자료의 보관과 나열식의 전시에서 벗어나 새로운 개념의 전시공간으로 이용되고 있다.
