Olivier Messiaen의 Livre D'orgue 분석 연구

Abstract

Olivier Messiaen(1908-1992) is one of the idiomatic composers of the 20th century who used his own musical language. He presented religious themes or subtitles in his music, and quoted the Bible for preface of scores. Messiaen composed many types of music for vocals, organs, pianos, chambers, and orchestral music. There are religious inclinations in his music, and organ music composed the most important part throughout his life. Messiaen thought that the numbers 3, 5, and 7 had mystic powers and presented indivisible sacredness because of the fact that those numbers couldn't be divided into equal parts. Moreover, he regarded the number '3' as 'the Trinity', '5' as 'the Christ' and '7' as 'Eternity', and used these numbers for melody, construction, and order of each movement. Enlarged, reduced and modified Indian rhythms or his own non-retrogradable rhythms and added values were used in his music. He built his own unique musical language with modes of limited transposition and free-chromatic scale. He is one of the composers who extracted bird-songs for music. In this paper, I examined musical characteristics and religious substances through the other articles. The analysis of form, rhythmic material, and scale material in his third organ composition the "Livre D'orgue" is an example of this. The 1st and 3rd pieces are in three parts song form, the 2nd, 5th and 7th pieces are in two parts song form, the 4th piece is modified rondo form, the 6th piece is free-form which is subdivided into 6 parts. Indian rhythm which is extracted from the rhythm table of Sangita Ratnakara, into written by Carngadeva in the 13th century, and it's modified rhythms are used. Bird-songs are presented with impromptu and irregular rhythms. Scale material is used with the free-chromatic scale and the 7th mode of his limited transposition, and adding new tones to major tones are used when he describes the bird-songs. Interval characteristics of melody is the augmented 4th, major 7th, minor 9th. Messiaen's form, rhythm, scale, and melodic interval characteristics are presented with his unique musical language. In his music, he presented the interests of Catholicism, naturalism and foreign culture. In this way, Messiaen objectificated his subjective Catholicism with his music, and combined his faith and musical language to present his unique style.;올리비에 메시앙(Olivier Messiaen, 1908-1992)은 그만의 독창적인 음악어법을 사용한 20세기 대표적인 작곡가 중의 한사람이다. 그는 가톨릭에 심취하면서 많은 작품들에서 신앙적인 제목과 부제를 제시하거나 악보 서문에 성경구절을 인용하기도 하였다. 메시앙은 성악곡, 오르간곡, 피아노곡, 실내악곡, 관현악곡 등 모든 종류의 작품을 남겼으며, 대부분의 작품에 종교적인 색채가 나타난다. 그 중에서도 오르간 곡이 큰 비중을 차지하는데 메시앙의 작품 전 시기에 걸쳐 작곡되었다. 메시앙은 3, 5, 7과 같은 특정한 숫자들이 균등한 부분들로 나누어질 수 없다는 사실로 신비로운 힘을 가지며 분할될 수 없는 신성을 나타낸다고 생각하였고 삼위일체는 숫자 '3', 그리스도는 '5', 영원은 '7'로 나타내어 선율이나 악곡 구성, 악장별 배치 순서 등에 사용하였다. 그는 인도리듬을 확대, 축소, 변형시키거나 그 만의 비역행 리듬, 첨가가치 리듬 등 독특한 리듬체계를 사용하였으며 자유로운 반음계, 조옮김이 제한된 선법과 이를 통한 화성 등을 통하여 자신만의 독창적인 음악어법을 구축하였다. 또한 그는 새소리를 채보하여 음악에 사용하였다. 본 논문에서는 메시앙의 오르간 작품에 나타난 음악적 특징과 종교적 내용을 여러 문헌을 통하여 살펴보았고, 그의 제 3기 오르간 작품인 「Livre D'orgue」에 나타난 형식, 리듬 소재, 음계적 소재를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 각 곡의 형식은 제 Ⅰㆍ Ⅲ곡이 3부 형식이고, 제 ⅡㆍⅤㆍ Ⅶ곡은 2부 형식이며, 제 Ⅳ곡은 변형된 론도 형식, 제 Ⅴㆍ Ⅶ곡은 2부 형식, 제 Ⅵ곡은 6개의 부분으로 세분되는 자유 형식이다. 리듬형들은 주로 13세기 인도의 샤른가데바(Carngadeva)가 쓴 이론서 「상기타 라트나카라(Sangita Ratnakara)」에 있는 리듬 일람표에서 발췌된 인도리듬과 그의 변형들이 주로 사용되는 한편 새소리가 즉흥적이며 비규칙적인 리듬형들로 제시된다. 음계적 소재는 메시앙의 조옮김이 제한된 선법 중 제 7선법과 자유로운 반음계가 사용되었으며, 새소리를 묘사할 때에는 주요음을 배경으로 새로운 음을 첨가시키는 법이 사용되었다. 또한 선율 음정적 특징은 증4도, 장7도, 단9도이다. 이러한 메시앙의 형식적, 리듬ㆍ음계적, 선율 음정적 특징들은 메시앙의 독창적인 음악어법으로 나타나며, 가톨릭 신앙과 자연주의 사상, 그리고 이국문화에 대한 관심을 음악에서 표현하였다. 이와 같이 메시앙은 자신의 주관적인 가톨릭 신앙을 음악이라는 도구를 통하여 객관화시켜 자신의 신앙과 음악어법을 하나로 결합하여 독특한 색채로 표현하고 있다.
