공공도서관 어린이 전자책 이용에 관한 연구

Abstract

As E-book has been accepted in the information society, the forms of reading are diversified. Children's E-book is now used as a good material for the children's reading along with the paper book. It is interesting to read E-book on the computer screen for children who one more familiar to the computer than adults who used to read the paper book. Therefore, public libraries recently introduce and develop children's E-book service that helps the children's reading ability. The purpose of this study is to suggest the managerial plan of children's E-book services in public libraries by surveying the children's E-book service and the users' usage patterns of E-book services through public libraries. This paper consists of the literature research, questionnaire survey, and the analysis of children's E-book webpages. The literature research included the E-book's features and history, the publication trend of children's E-book, and the children's E-book in public libraries. The questionnaire survey was conducted to 188 children and 120 parents in 4 public libraries in Seoul from March 27 to April 20 in 2005 in order to find the users' understanding and current status, the reading guidance, and the satisfaction of children's E-book of public libraries. The followings are the findings from the questionnaire survey. First, 54(28.7%) of 188 children and 42(35.0%) of 120 parents surveyed that they didn't know about the children's E-book service, and the rate of parents' answers was higher. Second, children and parents showed positive opinions on the children's E-book, and the provision of children's E-book service in public libraries Third, parents disagreed with children reading books by computer, but they supported the reading condition that children can read only E-book in computer disconnected to internet. Parents recommended E-book for their children because E-book could lead computer-friendly children to read more books, and they didn't recommend because children did not read books but indulged in computer games. Fourth, parents and children mainly selected the portal sites for the children's E-book services. Sufficient E-book collection of portal sites were explaining the reason why children used E-book through portal sites, and parents contacted portal sites because of the approachability. Fifth, Most of children contacted E-books of public libraries at their house to use conveniently. The reason why children read more books after using E-book of public libraries was analyzed that children could read wherever they wanted, especially not coming to the library. Sixth, most of children and parents satisfied with the collection, quality, route, and interface of children's E-book through public libraries, but they dissatisfied with the deficient subjects. The analysis of children's E-book webpages revealed that the uncombined children's E-book service of each company and the more complicated routes than portal sites are the factors to restrict the use of E-book services. The interview with librarians revealed the followings. The problem of children's E-book in public libraries is the insufficient collection. Librarians have the opinion that children's E-book service is essential in public libraries because it provides the reading opportunities for children through various media and it could make the reading rate up. Based on the survey results, the followings are the suggestions to increase the use of children's E-book services. First, only children's e-book of public libraries should be used by established a fire wall when users use E-book in libraries or at home. Second, the interlibrary loan among the public libraries and local libraries, and the main library for children's E-book service can solve the difficulties of the purchase and classification, and make up for the insufficient collection of E-book. Third, public libraries should make homepages of children's E-book to make up the deficient factors of existing webpages and to integrate various companies' search of E-books so that users could find E-books easily in public libraries' homepages with one search. Fourth, the active publicity approaches about children's E-book services are necessary to public libraries. The E-book lists could induce users to children's E-book services. Also, the school homepages put the links to the children's E-book services of public libraries, and the public libraries make publications about the services for the parents who visit them. These methods could be an effective marketing for the children's E-book through public libraries.;정보화 사회에서 전자책의 등장은 종이책만 이용하던 독서의 방법을 다양화 시켰다. 어린이 전자책은 종이책과 함께 어린이들에게 좋은 책읽기의 한 자료로 이용되고 있으며, 종이책에 익숙한 어른들에 비해 컴퓨터를 일찍 접한 어린이들에게 화면으로의 책읽기는 어려움이나 거부감의 대상이기보다 흥미로움의 대상이 되고 있다. 공공도서관에서도 어린이들의 독서함양에 도움이 되는 어린이 전자책을 제공하는 도서관이 증가하고 있다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 공공도서관 어린이 전자책 이용현황을 알아보고 이용을 증진시킬 수 있는 서비스 개선 방안을 제안하는데 목적이 있다. 연구방법으로는 문헌연구, 설문조사, 공공도서관 어린이 전자책 접근방법 분석 등을 이용하였다. 문헌연구를 통하여 전자책의 특성과 역사, 어린이 전자책의 출판 경향 및 공공도서관 어린이 전자책 서비스에 대하여 고찰 하였다. 설문조사는 서울시 공공도서관 4곳의 어린이 188명과 학부모 120명의 이용자를 대상으로 2005년 3월 27일부터 4월 20일까지 실시하였다. 설문내용은 공공도서관 어린이 전자책 인식과 독서지도, 이용현황 및 만족도에 관하여 조사하였다. 설문분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 설문대상인 어린이 188명 중 54명(28.7%), 학부모 120명 중 42명(35.0%)이 전자책을 모르는 것으로 조사되었으며 학부모가 어린이들에 비해 전자책을 모르는 비율이 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 어린이와 학부모는 어린이 전자책에 대한 인식과 공공도서관에서 어린이 전자책을 서비스하는 것에 대하여 긍정적이었다. 셋째, 학부모는 자녀가 컴퓨터를 이용하여 독서하는 것에 대하여 반대하는 의견이 높았으나, 인터넷을 차단하여 자녀가 독서만 할 수 있는 환경이 된다면 찬성한다는 의견이 높게 나타났다. 학부모가 자녀에게 어린이 전자책 이용을 권장하는 이유는 컴퓨터와 친숙한 어린이들에게 독서흥미를 유발시킬 수 있기 때문이며, 권장하지 않는 이유는 자녀가 책은 읽지 않고 게임이나 오락적인 것을 이용하기 때문인 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 어린이와 학부모가 주로 선택하여 이용하는 어린이 전자책 사이트는 인터넷 포털사이트인 것으로 조사되었다. 그 이유는 어린이의 경우 읽을 수 있는 어린이 전자책이 많기 때문에, 학부모는 접근이 용이하기 때문이었다. 다섯째, 어린이들이 공공도서관 어린이 전자책을 이용하는 장소는 집이 가장 많았다. 공공도서관 어린이 전자책 이용 후 어린이들의 독서량이 증가한 것으로 나타났으며, 그 이유는 도서관에 오지 않아도 다른 장소에서 원하는 책을 읽을 수 있기 때문인 것으로 분석되었다. 여섯째, 어린이와 학부모 이용자는 공공도서관 어린이 전자책에 대하여 종수, 질, 인터페이스 등의 부분에 대부분 만족하였으나, 주제의 다양성 부분에서는 대체로 불만인 것으로 나타났다. 공공도서관 어린이 전자책 접근방법 분석 결과 전자책 업체에서 제공하는 정보가 통합되지 않아 전자책 이용을 저해하는 요인으로 나타났다. 담당사서들과의 면담결과 공공도서관 어린이 전자책에 대한 문제점으로 종수 부족을 들었고, 어린이들에게 다양한 매체로의 독서경험의 기회를 제공하며, 독서율 증가에 도움이 된다는 이유로 어린이 전자책 서비스의 활성화가 필요하다고 하였다. 조사결과를 바탕으로 어린이 전자책 이용 증대를 위한 방안을 다음과 같이 제안하였다. 첫째, 도서관이나 집에서 공공도서관 어린이 전자책을 이용할 경우 인터넷 방어막이 설치되어 공공도서관 어린이 전자책만을 이용할 수 있도록 한다. 둘째, 공공도서관은 인접 공공도서관과 서로 연계하여 상호대차와 같은 형식을 취하여 예산으로 인한 종수 부족을 해소 하도록 한다. 셋째, 어린이 전자책 홈페이지 첫 화면을 제작하여 기존 홈페이지의 부족한 점을 보완하고, 여러 업체의 어린이 전자책을 서비스하는 공공도서관의 분류 · 검색을 통합하여 이용을 용이하게 한다. 넷째, 공공도서관 어린이 전자책 목록을 어린이실에 게시하며, 인근 초등학교 홈페이지에 공공도서관 어린이 전자책 홈페이지를 링크시켜 이용을 유도하고, 공공도서관을 방문하는 학부모를 대상으로 전자책 안내지를 나누어 주는 등의 홍보 방법을 다양화한다.
