Abstract
The following thesis state the analysis summary for , through the understanding of his musical and personal life as well as the in-depth understanding of the mentioned piece in terms of its form and structure. Beethoven is recognized as one of the key figures to link the two great eras music in history: classical and romantic periods. Haydn and Mozart heavily influenced Beethoven. He actually had studied under Haydn as a student. Despite such heavy influence, he established his own musical tendency and style instead of succeeding the musical characteristics of his former mentor. He completed the Sonata form in the first movement and utilized the Scherzo rather than Minuet in third movement to construct the stronger structure. During his life, Beethoven has composed total of 10 Violin Sonatas. Although all of these pieces are recognized as the great accomplishment, a few Sonatas that he composed in early days were actually composed to play for himself. The other Sonatas that are composed in later days were played by the other well-known violinists. was created during his darkened time when he was experiencing the serious illness regarding his hearing capability. Despite the traumatic experience of losing hearing capability as a musician, Beethoven was able to compose numerous musical pieces. were also one of those pieces. These particular three Sonatas were created upon the request of Alexander the first of Russia, which makes it called "Alexander Sonata." Among Beethoven's 10 Sonatas, is considered as one of the great Sonatas with . This Sonata shows the much larger and stronger structure and form in terms of musical characteristics. Beethoven has tried to structure his Sonata with the expression of unification and precision through utilization of counterpoint such as canon, fugato and enhanced motivation. In addition, he brought vitality in rhythm by application of syncopation or hemiola. He also tried to emphasize its dynamic by rapid change of strong and weak beat. In the first movement of sonata, it is structured with four sections by adding enlarged coda after exposition, development and recapitulation. In the second movement, it has a structure of simple ternary style in typical manner. In the third movement, Beethoven has used Scherzo instead of Minuet, which has been used throughout the entire Sonata. In the last movement, it is composed of Rondo form that contains Subject with two factors. This Subject gets small changes when it appears. In addition, Subject evolves with Rondo and Sonata mood when major change appears in middle section.
