시각적 오브제로써 북아트(Bookarts)에 대한 연구

Abstract

책은 관계의 오브제이다. 홀로 존재하기보다는 누군가와 관계 맺기를 열망한다. 인간이 사회의 일원으로 살아간다는 것은 관계적인 인간이 된다는 것이며 책 또한 인간과 더불어 그 관계 속에서 존재해왔다. 20세기 초반까지 정보와 지식 전달에 절대적 영향을 미쳤던 책은 정보화와 인터넷으로 모든 것이 검색되는 오늘, 책의 효용성과 가치에 대해 거론하는 것 조차 무색하게 되어졌다. 하지만 아직까지 많은 사람들의 머릿속에 인식되어오고 있는 책은 역사와 기록으로서, 교양과 지식으로서의 존재하는 책일 것이다. 정보사회 혹은 지식사회로 불리는 오늘날 책은 많은 변화를 겪어왔고 심지어 헤아릴 수 없는 매체들의 등장으로 앞으로의 시대에는 더 이상 책이 필요치 않다고 속단하는 소리까지 나오게 되었다. 책은 우리에게 어떤 의미를 갖게 하는 걸까? 종이와 문자를 통해 지식과 정보를 얻는 것 외에도, 책은 책 그 자체를 소유함으로 충족되는 기쁨을 준다. 이를테면 서가를 가득 메운 책들은 비록 그 책들을 다 읽지 않았어도 보기만 해도 배부른 소유의 대상이다. 읽지 않아도 위로와 만족을 주는 정서적 대상으로서의 책, 원하는 시간과 공간에 나와 함께 있는 책, 세월이 지나면 나와 더불어 낡고 소멸하기도 하는 책. 이렇듯 우리와 관계를 맺어온 책은 단순히 정보를 담기 위한 그릇이상이다. 그런 책이 현대에 와서는 조형적인 대상물이나 일종의 오브제로 인식의 대상이 아닌 조형적 대상으로서의 관계에 있으며 이것이 북아트(Bookarts) 이해의 중심이라 하겠다. 디지털적인 요소와의 관계 속에 살고 있는 우리들은 감성을 자극할 충분한 오감을 가지고 있는 책[북아트(Bookarts)]과의 관계 속에서 무한한 상상력과 자유를 경험할 수 있을 것이며 나아가 기존의 정해진 틀 속에 있는 책과는 또 다른 책과의 관계를 경험할 수 있을 것이다. 본 논문은 그런 책과의 새로운 관계를 만들고자 다각적인 표현방법으로 텍스트와 이미지로만 인식되는 책보다는 책을 읽는 행위과정에서 독창적이고 즐거움을 줄 수 있으며 오브제로써 공간과의 관계를 맺을수 있는 북아트 작품을 제작하고자 노력하였다. 그리하여 향후에는 많은 대중들과의 관계 속에서 상호 작용할 수 있는 중심 있는 독자적인 장르로 자리 매김할 수 있길 희망한다. ;A book is the object of relationship. It is eager to make relationship with someone rather than being alone. To live as a member in the human society is to form a relationship with others, and the book has existed in the society as a member, too. The book, which had had influences on the communication of information and knowledge until the early 20th century, has come to meaningless even to discuss its value and worth due to the development of informationalization and Internet service. However, the book still recognized preciously by many people exists as the history and record as well as the knowledge and education. Nowadays, as the information society or the Knowledge society, the book has been facing with many changes, and someone makes even a hasty conclusion that the society would not require the book anymore because of the appearance of countless mass media. What is the meaning of the book for us? Beyond obtaining valuable information and knowledge through papers and characters, it creates happiness of satisfaction while even possessing one. For instance, numerous books filled full in the shelves are the object of possession creating satisfaction although not readable all. The book, which is the emotional object that makes comfort and satisfaction even without reading, which is always with me when I need, which becomes old and vanish together with me; The meaning of the book has something more important rather than just transmitting a simple information. Nowadays, the book can be concluded that it is recognized as not only the object for knowledge but also the artistic object, and this concept is the core understanding of the Bookarts. The moderns living with numerous digital surroundings will be able to experience the unlimited imagination and liberty thanks to the book [Bookarts], which is capable enough to stimulate their sensitivity with its abundant five senses. In addition to this fact, they will be able to taste other aspects of the book different from a textbook. This thesis is tried to show the ingenious methods in many-sided that make relationship with a space of the object creating a pleasure just by the process of the reading acts rather than by the recognition of a text and image. In doing so, it is hoped that this genre can settle independently down into the masses over mutually understanding.
