비유를 활용한 시각표현 연구

Abstract

예술은 시대와 작가의 정신세계를 반영한 삶의 반영체이다. 온 인류에게 삶의 방향을 제시하며 시대가 요구하는 정신을 담고 있는 성서의 진리는, 비유의 문학이라고 할 수 있을 만큼 언어의 비유적인 표현이 두드러진다. 인류 역사상 시공간을 극복하여 하늘의 진리를 전하고자 하는 성경이 어떠한 표현방법을 택하고 있는 가에 대한 고찰은 인간의 사고를 이해하는데 도움을 주며, 성서의 의미내용을 시각화하는데 있어서 비유의 효과에 주목하게 한다. 비유는 직설적인 표현방법보다 의식과 정서에 더 큰 감동을 전달해준다는 특징을 가진다. 자연만물을 빗대어 표현한 비유의 방법은 보이지 않는 세계에 대해 보다 알기 쉽고 친근하게 다가갈 수 있게 하는 힘을 가지며, 예술가에 의해 표현된 사물은 사물의 속성에 내재된 의미를 함축하고 있는 표상으로서, 상징적인 의미전달의 매개체가 된다. 예술작품은 의미를 가지는 표현이며, 의미란 언어를 떠나서 생각할 수 없다. 언어에서의 비유적인 표현은 인간의 상징적인 사고를 반영하는 것으로, 예술에 사용된 상징은 예술작품의 의미를 인지하고 파악하는데 중요한 기호가 된다. 따라서 본인은 비유의 특성을 살펴보고, 성서에서 비유되어지는 사물의 이미지를 활용하여 의미내용을 함축적으로 시각화 하는데 있어서 적절한 표현방법을 찾고자 하였다. 본 연구과정으로 먼저, II장에서는 언어적 표현에서 비유개념이 포괄하고 있는 여러 범주들을 살펴봄으로써 ‘비유'의 개념과 특성에 대해 살펴보았다. 더불어 ‘상징' 의미와 범위에 대해 용어를 점검해봄으로써 다양하고 포괄적인 단어의 사용에서 오는 혼선을 줄이고자 하였다. 그리고 비유와 상징에 대한 언어적인 표현에서의 의미를 명확히 하고, 그 특성을 고찰한 후 성서에서의 비유의 기능과 특징에 대해 정리해보았다. III 장에서는 언어에서 비유와 상징이 함축하고 있는 의미내용이 시각적으로 어떻게 표현되어지는 것이 효과적인지를 문헌을 통해 살펴보고, 작품사례를 통해 표현 방법을 분석함으로써 본인의 개성과 의미내용의 표현에 적합한 시각표현을 탐구해보았다. 먼저 III-시각언어와 일반언어의 차이가 무엇인지 파악하고, 상징적인 의미내용을 시각화하는데 효과적인 표현방법은 무엇인지 살펴보았다. 그리고 연구자의 작품에 있어서 의미를 해석하고 이해하는데 있어 중요한 요소가 되는 표상들을 표현하는데 적합한 표현방법이 무엇인지 제시하였다. 마지막으로 언어에서의 비유법이 시각적으로는 어떠한 방식으로 적용될 수 있는지 이미지의 수사학적 표현방법을 광고를 중심해서 살펴봄으로써 보다 효과적인 커뮤니케이션을 할 수 있는 방법을 찾고자 하였다. 본 연구자의 표현이 시각언어의 특성상 이미지의 전달자와 수용자사이에 완전히 일치된 의미작용을 일어나게 하는 것에는 한계가 있지만 언어뿐 아니라 시각언어에 있어서, 그리고 의미내용과 시각표현에 있어서도 비유의 사용이 우리의 삶 가운데 풍부한 연상 작용과 정서적 체험을 불러일으킬 수 있다는 사실은 부인할 수 없을 것이다.;Art is the reflection of life, reflecting the times and the artist's mentality. The bible which contains directions of many lives and teachings of the contemporary, could be named as 'literature filled with parables' since it is filled with linguistic metaphorical expressions. As exploring the certain expressions of the bible which continues to deliver truth transcending space and time, I became interested in understanding the human thinking and visualizing such content. Parables tend to deliver the mentality and emotion with more impact than just saying things directly. Meanings expressed in similes of nature has the power making people easily understand invisible things. Also objects expressed by the artist is a symbol implying internal meaning, and becomes the medium to convey symbolic meaning. An art work is an expression with meaning, and meaning cannot be separated from language. Since metaphorical expressions reflect the human symbolic thinking, visual expression of the object containing symbolic meaning also becomes an important pictorial sign. Therefore I have explored the characteristics of parables, searched for a suitable method to visualize the meaning using the object image. In my study of chapter II, I first examined the various categories containing the notion of parables within linguistic expression and found out the concept and characteristics about parables. Also as scrutinizing the terminal meaning and category of 'symbolizing', I wanted to reduce the confusion coming from various uses of such abstract word. Also I tried pinning down the precise meaning of 'parable' and 'symbol' within linguistic expression, and organized the characteristics of types of parable expressions coming from the bible. In chapter III, through text references I searched for the most effective expression in visualizing the content of linguistic parables and symbols. Through analyzing actual examples of such expression, I explored a method which was suitable for expressing my own personal thoughts and taste. I searched for a method which expresses the meaning itself related with a meaning delivering the differences between visual language and ordinary language of a more simple static composition, representational expressive method. I also searched for a more effective expression method for a pictorial sign which becomes an important element in interpreting and understanding the meaning. Lastly, I searched for an effective way of visual communication for the linguistic metaphor which could be visually applied through advertising - a rhetoric expression of the image. Although it is not easy for the image reader to precisely communicate the exact meaning of what the image maker has visually expressed, the use of the parable(metaphor) within the visual language may evoke abundant associative mental processes and emotional experiences within our lives.
