G. F. 헨델의「조곡(Suite) E 장조, HWV 430」에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 필자의 석사과정 이수를 위한 졸업 연주회의 연주곡목 중 헨델(George Frederic Handel 1685-1759)의 「조곡(Suite) E 장조, HWV 430」에 대해 연구한 것이다. 헨델은 바로크시대의 대표적인 작곡가 중의 한 사람으로서 많은 오페라와 오라토리오 작품들로 널리 알려져 있다. 그는 독일 출신이지만, 후에 영국으로 귀화하였고, 이태리와 영국 등의 여행을 통해 여러 나라의 문화와 음악양식을 접하고 받아들임으로서 그의 작품들에 그 자신만의 국제적이면서도 독창적인 음악양식을 담아내었다. 헨델의 건반악기 작품들은 그의 다른 작품들에 비해 상대적으로 규모가 작지만, 헨델의 음악적 특징을 보여주는데 부족함이 없다. 헨델의 건반악기 작품들은 1720년과 1733년, 1735년에 출판된 작품들과 그의 사후에 발견된 여러 작품들로 구성되어 있는데, 그 중 1720년에 헨델 본인에 의해 출판된「건반악기를 위한 조곡 모음집」(Suite de pieces pour le clavecin)은 그의 건반악기 작품들 중 가장 뛰어난 것으로 평가되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이 첫 번째 작품집에 수록된 제 5번 E 장조 모음곡을 분석 연구하였다. 이 작품은 주제와 변주를 가지는 마지막 악장에 붙여진「흥겨운 대장장이」(The Harmonious Blacksmith)라는 타이틀로 널리 알려진 곡이다. 전형적인 바로크 조곡의 악장 구성을 벗어난 프렐류드(prelude), 알르망드(allemande), 쿠랑트(courante), 에어(air)의 4악장 구조를 취하고 있으며, 다성적(polyphony)인 구조와 화성적(homophony)인 구조가 혼합되어 이탈리아의 모노디(monody) 양식의 영향을 받은 헨델의 특징이 잘 나타나 있다. 또한 이 곡에는 주제적 연관성(thematic connection)을 가지는 동기(motive)들이 각 악장에 사용되어 곡 전체에 통일성이 부여되었고, 특히 E 믹소리디안 선법(mixolydian mode)을 차용함으로서 독특한 선율과 화성을 나타나고 있다.;This Thesis is on Handel's Suite in E Major, HWV 430, which is selected from the writer's program for the graduation recital for the completion of a master's degree in music. Handel was a representative composer in the Baroque era and has many famous works of opera and oratorio. Through the travels around Italy and England, he got access to foreign cultures and musical styles and accepted them. As a result, his works has his own international and characteristic style, although he was from Deutsch. Hendel's keyboard works are small quantities compared to his other works, but enough to show the feature of his music. They are consisted of 3 collections published in 1720, 1730 and 1735 and several works found after death. Among other things, 「Suite de pieces pour le clavecin」published in 1720 by himself is evaluated as the greatest one. This analytic study is on Suite in E major included in the first collection. The last movement of this work with the theme and variations is known widely, the title of which is 'The Harmonious Blacksmith'. In the work, Handel broke from the typical structure of movements of Baroque suite and took the structure of 4 movements, Prelude, Allemande, Courante and Air. The fact that polyphonic texture is mixed with homophonic one in the whole of the work reflects the influence of monody style of Italy on Handel's music. Since every movement has the motive with thematic connection, there is thematic unity between movements. And E mixolydian mode was borrowed so that it might make individual tune and harmony.
